This Malcolm Marx injury is becoming a scab everyone wants to pick on. Yes Marx is integral to the team but there are other players who can do the fetching and win us those conversions/penalties; there are other players who can throw the line-out; there are other players that can scrum (we scrummed decently against Romania); we have the variations from the line out/around the maul. The team is not useless without Marx. The squad will play even harder and more clinical knowing they have to fill the gap left by Marx’s absence. 🇿🇦

What he actually said is that the South Africans realized that what happens between world cups means nothing, the world cup is the ultimate prize. But he's wrong, we have ALWAYS known that. It is the kiwi's that claimed world cups did not matter, since it took them 27 years to win their 2nd word cup.

As a Saffa I must say that this 7:1 bench will definitely give us an advantage, however I don't like the fact that my fellow Bok supporters are getting so revved up over it... They call it the nuclear option for a reason, it has the potential to either destroy the opposition or take us down to. If we get injuries after the subs are made then what exactly will the public think then? Let see if it's a worthwhile risk, Go Bokke!!

Yes we can reshuffle our backline but we also playing Ireland... they ranked 1st for a reason and playing players out of position isn't ideal against no 1 ranked team. Any backline injury throws a spanner in the works, after Rassie sold fans out to SARU and the fact they leaving won't surprise me at all if Rassie throws this game, he certainly got squad selections wrong. Let's be real here he has blooded no new players, all the selections have been enforced quotas accross the board, Kolisi was never there on merit to begin with there's 1 other players on form missing out as is the case with Bongi... funny how the quotas get the captaincy, nice way to tell the youth piss off

Ja particularly JK saying he would rather face the Boks in the QF than Ireland. Well he got what he wanted in facing the Boks but unfortunately for them it was a final and they were on the wrong side of the final.
But what they didn't realise is, and I believe this to be the case that since France played New Zealand in the opening game, and no doubt both of them would win all their other games, which meant whoever won that game would most likely end the pool stages top of the log, this meant Erasmus and Nienaber knew how their game against Ireland would affect their QF positions.
South Africa beat Scotland, who for some was an uncertain result. Would SA win? Would Scotland win? And so with Scotland being our opening match whoever won that would end the pool stages heading with Ireland into the QFs.
So SA beat Scotland which meant Ireland and SA were heading into QF. However the match up between Ireland and SA would determine who goes where.
And because the Chickens played the Kiwis in the opening match the Springboks figured they could afford to lose to the Shamrocks and probably realised it was best which would mean Chickens v Springboks and Shamrocks v Kiwis. That would mean for Rassie either the Irish would be packing or the New Zealanders. But they knew they could afford to lose. And because of Andy Farrell's situation of 17 game win streak, in his mind he couldn't afford to lose and so sent his best team in to play against South Africa. He also "needed" to win each game, although he didn't need to win each game.
He was playing to win each game, the Springbok coaches were playing to win the tournament.

Does Jeff Wilson not realise that the two most disappointing teams at this WC all play super rugby? Fitzpatrick thinks that super rugby is the cause of the problem, because, now that South Africa isn't there, Australia and New Zealand can just play amongst themselves and get high on their own farts by playing expansive ball-in-hand rugby without an opposing forward pack to shut them down.

I don't think the Boks are going all out on this game. They've already made it out of the pull stages and doesn't seem to matter who wins group A because those teams aren't looking as in form as Ireland and Boks. Rassie had everyone thinking Boks played a kicking game up until the final. I think this game is similar, that 7 - 1 split is too risky for a must win match, which is why I think they don't care much for the result. So in terms of Ireland being truly tested, I don't think so. If both make it to the final we'll see the real game.

    • @hasparov
      @hasparov ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes - I agree with you. They are basically in the QFs already and the difference between playing France and NZ is small. So the 7-1 thing is an experiment. If they lose they can say well the experiment didn't work but no harm done, and if they win they cause Ireland big psychological problems. However, i do think the 7-1 makes it more likely they will lose, as it is just too risky - you don't want players in the back-field playing out of position against Ireland and just one injury could make that happen.

At least John Kirwan has caught on. The Boks are not obsessed with winning silly little 4-nations competitions or once-off tests of no consequence (as Rassie has said on MANY occasions). Those matches have all been used to blood players, test combos, refine game plans and get ready for the next RWC. Remember how the Boks even made FIFTEEN changes to their team after smashing Wales in the first test last year? Since the advent of RWC and the professional era, the Webb Ellis Trophy is the most coveted and most desired rugby trophy of all, because RWC is where ALL the world's top teams compete with their BEST teams at the SAME TIME on a LEVEL playing field. However, despite the Oceanians (once known as the All Blacks) being so "wonderful" (with all their non-important silverware), the Boks STILL entered RWC ranked two spots higher than them. How come? 🤔

These prejudiced pundits suffer from some massive memory loss, probably can't face the reality of the Boks sinking them with absolute ease.. They should know better not to downplay the Boks danger factor in world cups, but alas their own prejudice blinds them.

Either way, the Boks or Ireland beat the AB’s in the knockout stages. The Boks are better balanced and have the depth, Ireland live rent free in NZ head. I look forward to one of them sending the AB’s home with their tails between their legs.

In SA's last three games they have conceded only 10 points one converted try (AllBlacks) and a solitary penalty (Scotland). They conceded 0 points against Romania whereas other top 10 nations have conceded at least a try to the lower tier nations. This needs mentioning. Someone needs to talk about our defence... But then again maybe we should just keep it a secret😂

    My 2 cents:
The way everyone is talking about the Boks, its like if we didnt do a 7-1 split we wouldnt be good enough to beat Ireland. WE are good enough without a 7-1 split. Like Schalk Burger says, we know our game, we play our game, every player on the field knows what they have to do and they do it well. Every team in the world knows how we play and we still win. Its because we put pressure on the opposition. Any team that has huge pressure on them can lose a game. NZ did it to us in the championship. Pressure and possession wins the game. Scoreboard, field position and defensive pressure.

It's interesting that JK would rather the AB's play the Boks than Ireland in the quarters. As a French, I'd rather France would play Ireland than the Boks in the quarters. The level of physicality of the Boks is just at another level.

  • @toeksie2716

Honestly would prefer the Springboks play the All Blacks in the QF, think France being home and having beaten the All Blacks with the opening match, they are going to be fire. I do not think the All Blacks will be easy, but France will be more dangerous or rather less predictable. It would be better to get them in the Final as hopefully the nerves would be their downfall. The All Blacks are not down and out for the count and I know the Bok Team and management knows this as well. I would be interested to know who they would prefer, but ultimately it will come down to who they need to prepare for after the game vs Ireland, which is going to be a good game to watch no matter whom you support. Both teams have got their own ways of beating the defense, I expect a lot of high ball contesting as well as deep kicks for territory and a massive physical pack contest. Maybe the Bokke will pull another controversial move with the 7:1 Nuke squad, and maybe Ireland can put their line movements to excellent use. I do not hope it is a runaway game for either side as both teams deserve a win this weekend. On a side note, these pundits are awful, they can do with a bit more humility and respecting other teams. Saying that Australia are at their best is stupid, this is a new team and I can see potential there, anyone that watched that Fiji game could clearly see where lack of experience left gaps and kicks were being done in desperation instead of being calculated. I expect these type of analysis from the British media not veteran rugby players and experts.

No one cares what NZ pundits think BOKS made a statement with that team selection "We gonna beat you into the ground what you gonna do" BOKS by 8+ dont worry about NZ they have enough problems they'll be underdogs in QF no matter who the play. Lets just hope the better rugby decides the winner and not any other reason. Good Luck to all may the best team win.
