Wow that is super quiet!! Barely any valve noise.. what a great sound!!
Thank you, we spend a bit of time working towards that
back in 05 i was late teens and didn't have any patients, i saved but was in a hurry and settled for 1915, then built a 2180, finally after getting my head out of my @ss and just saving like i should have the first time, i built a 2387. my 67 Bug was a major money pit.. lol. funniest vehicle I've ever driven. the pull of the take off and the gokart feel, and the ability to smoke a V8.
We’ve all been there before, I think that’s why we stay pretty busy, most of our customers are finally building what we couldn’t when we were younger.
I built a custom bug in 82 and sold it around 91. We got the car back 03 for our son to drive. Unfortunately a few years later we were hit by a tornado and the car damaged pretty badly.
This year that bug will be back on the road. I will be 61 driving a hot bug hopefully with one of your 2110's.
So much memorable history behind your car, we’d be honored to build you an engine, feel free to call us with any questions
I couldn't stop looking at that giant auto-craft turbo monster on the left!
I built a 2.4 for my sons beetle, even clearanced the case myself, runs strong and good, just like my own volksrod ,Red Baron.🇬🇧
That's awesome
Worth every penny!!
Thanks for posting these vids. I enjoy them. I will have one of your engines one day.
Sounds round... that's what I'm talking about..😎
OMG i would love to have this motor in my buggy. Love the work you guys do. VW for life!!!
Thank you, appreciate the kind words, thanks for watching
Advice for the valve cover to rocker clearance issues, if you measure the inside of the valve cover you shaved down (And you know it clears the rockers), you can use this as your minimum spec for future covers.
I'm with you on that, data and notes are key, you won't see me run into the same wall twice, well maybe twice but never 3 times lol.
The valve covers are .250 thick and we notch them .100 but there was a couple of times where we/helper didn't get them marked directly centered behind the rocker and had to widen the notches.
Thank you
That motor matches my '63. Wish I had it.
I would love to see a torture test of one of these next to a 1600
Run both under load at 4k until something breaks, and see what that is.
This one might be my new favorite; that off-white vs polish is gorgeous. Plus the 200hp 👏
I’m not sure I like the idea of torturing one of our engines🥲 there is a way to run them hard without intentionally trying to kill them
@@powerhausvw yeah it would be sad
But for science!! 👏👏
I had built a Toyota 2tg motor a few years ago and I used 90mm pistons that were made for a VW
so sweet! sounds as good as it looks! i want to put together a motor like this! 175 - 190 lbs of torque tho', thanks john and power haus!
Great work and sharing lots of info 🙏
Haven't thought about VW in years. I'm sure it has been thought about before. Rerouting fan air to the intake? Slightly larger fan or overdrive pulley to make up for what the engine is using?
I would expect a forged crank to be fundamentaly stronger anyway due to the grain flow through the structure......
Simply the best!
Very nice healthy sound.
Thank you for this video!! This is NICE NICE NICE!!! New Susciber from Los Angeles!!
Welcome!! thank you for the support
Sounds great.
Super nice. What freeway flyer transmission set-up would you recommend for the marriage with this build on a 67' Kombi?
3.88 transmission
Can you run the stock oil cooler with the Bernie Bergman fan shroud?
no, not with the Porsche shroud, you would need to run an external cooler/fan set up
How much is the price on the red one
These engines have already been sold to customers, we do have pricing and options listed on our website, if you would like additional information and or a personal quote, please give us a call during the week 310-328-2746 and ask for Jerry or John and one of us would be happy to go over options and ideas.

Nice engine!
With a straight cut cam, is that hard to live with on the street? Sound wise? Does an engine like this hold up for regular street use or does it require a ton of care?
Thanks for posting the video.
Everybody has there own level of tolerance and if your already asking than yes they’ll probably bother you 😂 but the older I get, I like a quieter engine as well. All our engines are built to be as drive-able and reliable as possible regardless of engine size but of course these older vehicles will need more maintenance than any modern vehicle, feel free to call us during the day and we can go over more ideas with you.

@@powerhausvw thank you very much
Do you always use carbs, or does anyone ask for EFI like CB performance makes?
I drove air cooled bugs for 14 years, all the way till 2002, but when I moved to WA it got to hard to keep it running, and I got a new Mazda.
We've done several custom efi builds but mostly dual weber engines as they are easier for the average customer to install. In my opinion, there is not a bolt on efi kit for a vw that would bolt on and make all your headaches go away, truthfully if someone has a hard time figuring out how to keep carburetors running, efi can cause them even more headaches especially if the install is not done correctly.
Sounds amazing. How much cost a engine like that?
Check out our website below for pricing and options if you have a chance or give us a call for a personal quote

Great looking and sounding motor. Do you do type IV motors?
Unfortunately we’re not doing the Type 4 engines right now, there’s only 2 of us building engines and we’re a bit backed up.
Very awesome👏
I have a 2110 with 40 mm webers, could you tell me what size jets should i use, Its been hard to make them run fine..
We don't use the 40mm Webers, we usually run dual 44 or 48's , I would suggest to start with the factory jetting that comes with the 40mm carburetors and make adjustments from that point, every engine set-up can be a little different.
@@powerhausvw Thak you...
If I want to engine swap this motor into a car, does it necessarily have to be a beetle? Or can it be a sedan? I have plan to make my 1999 A4 2.8 into a sleeper
Nice
Thanks
What oil do you recommend for street use?
We use 20-50 Valvoline VR1 Racing
Big John!!!!!
Does this engine have 44s or 48 carbs?
Weber 44idf's
@@powerhausvwis there any disadvantage if you were to use 48idfs on a setup like this?
My apologies, this engine does have the 48idf’s
@@powerhausvw thank you for the reply keep up the videos I really enjoy them. The engines look like a piece of art work!
How do you feel about the EMPI 48 IDF carb kits? Are there any problems?
do you sell the Bergman alt fan shroud as a kit?
No, not at the moment, we're having a tough enough time trying to get them for the engine builds we are doing, best suggestion would be to call Bernie Bergmann directyly.

8.5:1 dynamic or static compression?
we usually build our engines between 8:0 & 8:5 compression if using 91 octane fuel
@@powerhausvw Thanks. Is that static or dynamic though?
@@panchosspeedshop8576 obviously static dude. who the hell throws out dynamic compression ratio numbers?
@@juliennacer8871 I asked because 8.0:1 static seems low for a large cam.
Sorry missed these comments earlier but yes that is static compression, we don’t build for max hp, we build them to have low end power, drive ability and just fun to drive, we like to build a large cc engine with mild cam & compression that has to work half as hard as appose to a small cc engine that has to work full capacity to make the same power.
Does the transaxel have an LSD?
We only built the engine but I don’t believe the customer used a limited slip diff, they are rarely used in the VW world, we have a spool in our race car and a LSD in our turbo street car but that’s because when we run our street car on the track, we run it pretty hard.
Would this work in a type III? What is the lead time?
This is an upright engine, it would not fit with the engine lid on.
We are currently quoting 4-5 month lead time on one of our new engine builds.
Thank you! Do you folks make them for type III VWs?
@@mattfisher8568 not at the moment, we have a rather long list of our type 1 builds that we are just trying to keep up with, the type 3 requires re-using some of the original sheet metal, fan, housing, etc. that is not available for new replacement and original parts are not only hard to find but would need a bit of modification to prepare them correctly for a performance type 3 engine, unfortunately just not something we can take on right now.
You may try Chico Performance, I've seen him post several type 3 builds so it may be something he can offer as a package deal.

this for a bug?
Yes this was for a 1970 VW Bug
I love VW's, but the cost of the engines is crazy stupid anymore.
Yes, the VW engine became very expensive when we started using all new parts, even more so now with all that is going on, everything is going up.
I wish you would sit in Germany. Lol. Great engines👍🏻
Top....
How much is this

8.5 to 1. Surprisingly low compression. I would have thought it would need 10 to 1 to make 200 hp.
