In this film Elli talks you through what Newborn photography actually is and why you should be shooting in. She then walks you through the preparation that helps to guarantee a great session for both you and the clients. Along with the basics of equipment and the studio, preparing the client is essential so that the baby and parents are relaxed and comfortable, which will make the session run much more smoothly and successfully.

Thank you so much for this video! I don’t do newborn photography at all, but a friend had their photographer cancel on them and so I’m filling in to make sure they get their photos while the baby is still new. This video has great advice on the soft skills that you only get from experience, which was what I was looking for!
Awesome, I really want to learn this for the future. I've been working with children for at least 20 years and I'm a nanny right now and I've worked with babies that were 15 minutes old and up to teenagers so I have that experience which is awesome and I'm very comforting for babies they tend to fall asleep pretty easily with me so this is just a passion and I want children so I think in the next year or so I can learn what I can and then practice on my own children and get that experience too.

Did your photo session go wrong, or what happened?
@@jasonguido9057 Not necessarily anything wrong, but my session felt very rushed and quiet. I wish the photographer we had talked to us or explained what she was doing. We were kind of guessing what we should be doing instead of her leading the way. Our baby didn't want to fall asleep at first too and she (tog) seemed frustrated and rushed, so I felt the pressure to soothe the baby as quickly as possible. I like the advice about the background noise in this video (besides baby shusher), I think it's a nice touch and helps to minimize awkward silence. Overall it wasn't a bad exp, I was happy with pictures. I just think it could have gone smoother if there was more communication, more lead and less time constraint/pressure

I agree, rushing and pressure is always extremely detrimental for any creative process, including photography. Nothing better than being well informed, communicated, and taking your time smoothly.
