this all just proves the common phenomenon where actors and interviewers and other such performers tend to forget that the muppets are being puppeteered and treat them as independent beings
Ttyd is going to be 60 dollars so that's more of a kick in the nuts than a positive. Also, I wouldn't count prime 4 yet either. The longer they wait the more likely it'll only be for the next console. That's going to be a huge handicap that the metroid series can't afford. Scalpers will ruin the launch and kill the game, just like what happened with ratchet on ps5
I feel as tho the price is 100% justified as this is a complete ground up remake of one of the most beloved paper Mario games for a system that is slowly dying.
You know, I'm surprised you didn't mention Cadence of Hyrule from Brace Yourself Games in your rundown. Giving a third party a free run with one of their flagship IP's and just saying "Go for it" was a heck of a surprise for me when it came out.
However, it's also an example of 'things being left to just happen organically' since the reason that happened was someone at Nintendo really enjoyed Crypt of the Necrodancer and showed it to Eiji Aonuma from what I recall.
That one definitely was a surprise, and it was a fun way to combine that game studio's strength with an IP that matches it well. I was also surprised that he didn't mention WayForward doing the Advance Wars 1+2 remake; that's pretty much a prime example of what's talking about with giving an outside studio an IP that hadn't been seen in a while.
@@aster7840I'll give you Mando season 1 and maybe Andor, but absolutely not Kenobi. That show was pure trash. I love Obi but apart from him the show was terrible.
You’ve got Ness in that thumb. I wouldn’t want another entry in the series unless Itoi was involved or at least gave his blessing, and Itoi has said that he doesn’t want to make any more. An enhanced remake of the trilogy would be fine, though. It’d be awesome if they did it in the same artstyle as that “Link’s Awakening” remake. The only issue is that there’s some weird stuff in the third game that some parents will undoubtedly object to, so it’d probably have to carry a T rating.
A TH-camr called MoonChannel made a whole video on why Mother 3 will never be released outside japan. It’s not because of the Magypsies, it’s because of the music.
@@tylercoon1791 I'm aware of the issues. I've seen that exact video. What he rather glossed over is that the samples are mostly just in the battle themes. None of them are in the game's big music pieces. Fundamentally nothing would be lost if entirely new tracks were written or the offending parts were replaced with sound-alikes. At any rate, the Magypsies weren't the only thing I was referring to. There's also animal abuse, drug and alcohol use, the "oxygen machines", that questionable scene where Lucas's psychic powers are unlocked, and explicit references to death. Nintendo of America might be okay with releasing a game with all of that in it, but it ain't squeaking by with an E no matter how accepting people are of drag queens these days. I wouldn't want them to censor a thing, either, but I think it's fair to say that it should have a T rating so that people know what they're getting into before buying it.
Arlo’s point about Disney and franchise investment is honestly the best I’ve seen online. There’s always more opportunities to tell new stories with preexisting characters, unique opportunities that can only stem from sequels or franchise films to make something surprisingly new. What matters is the passion behind that story, that’s what keeps big studios like Disney from benefiting from them.
I feel the biggest issue is that Disney usually isn't comfortable to take some risks and wants to keep everything in an interconnected universe. The stories seem so scared to end up bad that they can't ever end up that good either. Similarly being so obsessive about keeping a cohesive universe means these IP's will just end up creating a ton of limitations for the kind of stories you can tell instead of it being a source of inspiration. There's only so much you can do with a story about a well-established character and cramming it in between two stories already told. There's only so much you can do with a story when it has to work as a part of a greater whole that needs to lead somewhere specific. You'll never get to a good story trying to please everyone in a split fanbase and trying to account from the complaints of people who don't know how stories work.
I love Arlo, but I still think his opinions around this topic are completely irrational and unreasonable. First: Nintendo absolutely is at pretty much their maximum output. After merging their home console and handheld divisions, plus working with more third parties, they are releasing far more games than they ever did. They can't release more than a game per month, when they do, it only hurts the smaller game, it gets send out to die, like WarioWare or Advanced Wars. Like Nintendo said, it's unreasonable to expect Nintendo to work on all of their IPs all the time, that doesn't make any sense, even if they did, like I said, half of those games would only be forgotten around all those other big games. It's wise to wait for the right time to release it, and that smaller series only get new games every 10-20, is completely expected when you look at the amount of IPs Nintendo has, and making new entries just for the sake of doing them is a stupid business decision, that's exactly what hurt many series like Sonic, Crash, Assassins Creed and so many others. Nintendo only works on a title when they have a good idea for it, and that's the right decision, if that means you only get your Starfoxes, F-Zeros, Punch-Outs every ten years, so be it.
@@RuuyG I completely disagree. 20 years ago it didn't take that much to create a masterpiece. The primary difference is mostly just fidelity. Making a game for the N64 took far less development time then than a game pushing the hardware does now. Aiming to make a game that's not that high performance will take less development time now because of better tools as well as less need to optimise. I am completely fine to be playing games that don't have more graphical fidelity than a GameCube game, and I'd much rather see more games that take less time to develop and take more risks.
This is the first time I really thought about how Arlo is just a puppet and whoever puppeteers him is actually really skilled for how synced he is to the dialogue and the captured nuances in his body language. Also would love to see a game where they use characters like Wario & Waluigi and telling their story or even just making them relevant in the mainline games
You can make the best Wario and Waluigi games in the world, they will never be relevant in the main series. Wario in Mario 64 DS was the closest we ever came to that.
@@MichaelHeide I honestly wouldn’t be mad if that happened again. After being wowed by all the new characters in Wonder but being utterly disappointed by the “bosses” I really do hope they learn to expand out especially after seemingly breaking away from PM: The Origami King’s no new characters rule. Even Ubisoft was like put them in the Rabbids game somehow.
@@SALT-cp4eu and don't forget the Broodals from Odyssey. But new Mario characters are always limited to appearances in one or two games. The Isle Delfino inhabitants have dropped from the face of the Earth after 1000 Year Door. The bosses from 3D World haven't appeared since. I don't think Nintendo wants more characters in their Mario games. It's surprising that Nabbit still appears today. But Wario and Waluigi are something else. They weren't created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka or one of their teams. Wario came from Mario Land 2, and Waluigi came from Mario Tennis. Nintendo doesn't like them despite their enormous fanbases. Waluigi isn't even a fighter in Smash, and Wario always gets shown with his Wario Ware outfit. Nintendo isn't ashamed of them, but certainly seem to be annoyed. I don't think they'll ever have a major role in a mainline game.
@@heftyjongle2958they acquired before Iron Man 2 and just after Incredible Hulk. That’s when Feige was pretty much given free license to make what he wanted.
Nintendo punishing us for not supporting Wii U enough. Instead of a new game we just got a port. At least we are getting a new DK game this month. The Mario and DK games are modern takes on old DK style and legitimately good.
I mean, it was a long time before we got DK Country Returns 1, too. I’m guessing the Mario vs DK remake might be their answer to that, as cheap as that sounds. Or, they’re making a game to release around the same time the DK area of Universal is ready
Also .. why is everyone acting like Nintendo hasn't been reviving game franchises left and right in the past couple of years??? Pikmin is back after 10 years of absence, Advance Wars got a remake, Metroid got a remake on 3ds, a new 2d game on switch and Prime 4 is coming soon, Another Code literally just came back, Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario came back (both super demanded games btw) They're listening to us, Star Fox, Golden Sun, Kid Icarus.... Those will come in the future, PATIENCE PEOPLE!!
The day they announce more Kid Icarus I will literally cry. Seeing Pit and the gang again will be like a father who hasn't seen his kids in over a decade.
This is very true I think people just want to see fresh new games from these which is a fair ask, but it's also important to know why their doing remakes and remasters first with some of these. Their testing to see if these will all sell well enough, so if you want new games for a franchise or in the case of paper mario a return to traditional rpg mechanics for that series you need to support these remakes to let Nintendo know very clearly this is what we want. Of course sometimes they've just jumped straight into it recently with a brand new game for a series too and have gotten good results that way too.
Pikmin 4 was in development mere months after Pikmin 3 released (judging by the claims Nintendo made), Samus returns was released as the 3DS started its decline, we just had a Paper Mario game with Origami King, and Dread was merely a shelved concept because the creators were waiting for good enough hardware to make it a reality. They are entries into lesser used IPs, but none of them really indicate that we'd get full fledge proper games for Star Fox, Golden Sun, and Kid Icarus. I really hope we do, but let's pump the breaks a little on our expectations.
On the one hand, With all the long awaited remasters and sequels we've been getting recently, I could see the next Donkey Kong or F-Zero remaster being just around the corner. (It makes no sense why the latter has gone so long without new developments.) On the other hand, like you said, they're pretty conservative with their not as big properties. I wish they did experiment instead of leaving these beloved franchises dormant. Maybe with the new console, will come a new era of IP utilization. At least I hope so.
I would like to think that, but a lot of the IP are, alas, tech demos. Star Fox and F-zero being the biggest ones. They only EVER make new version of those games if they are showcasing tech or in Adventures case, feeling an IP can't stand witout some backing of a brand name. F-Zero likely got it the worst. Fro showcase of mode 7 to high speed poly rendering and course creation to some GBA fluff to the pressure triggers on the Gamecube and cross arcade compatibility. If those two IPs can't show off something, they are ignored or we are told, "We already made that game go play that one." When they WON'T release them either.
I never played it, but I hear GX was awesome. A modernized remake of GX would be a great way to see if F-Zero is still a viable franchise. It'd also be nice if Nintendo would give Mario and Zelda a break for a year or two to focus on smaller IPs, especially with how much the two got so much attention on the Switch (unless we get a new top-down zelda, of course).
@@ReikuYin I feel like franchises like Star fox and F-zero, even neglected franchises like wave race or excite bike/excite truck , could be big hits if nintendo put the same amount of resources into the development and marketing of those that they do for Mario/Zelda. I just think of growing up in the n64 era, all my friends used to play star fox/f zero/ wave race just as much as the main nintendo franchises. Nintendo must view it as too much of a gamble
I approve of Arlo explaining how businesses work because it seems random if you don’t know a few things about business and economics and gamers should arm themselves with this knowledge to influence the companies they buy from. He makes a couple of errors, Nintendo doesn’t refrain from making entries in less popular franchises because the developers don’t get around to it. The suits are what get in the way, they want games with the highest return of investment. Why spend resources on F-Zero when you can have your racing game developers make another ultra profitable Mario Kart and subsequent DLC? When a studio gets too large and rich too often making fat margins takes precedence over the artistic desires of developers. Passion projects become nonexistent in billion dollar game companies or they are forced to adhere to a mass market template. Nintendo is special because the art of video games still sort of matters to them. A typical megacorp would’ve given up on Pikmin after the first or second game, they had such low sales for a AAA developer.
Possible projects going by interviews: - Suda51 has stated that his dream Nintendo game is Takamaru's Castle. He's close-friends with a lot of the higher-ups. Might be possible. - Fast RMX guys potentially pitching another F-Zero game to Nintendo. They've been turned down, but they could give it another go if Nintendo is way more open as Arlo says. Dykgaming did a great video discussing this. - Wayforward wanting to do a Zelda II remake. Those are the ones that stick out to me.
All of phase 1 is considered Paramount. That’s why for many years phase 1 DVD/Blu-Rays actually cost more than Phase 2 & 3. The first true Disney MCU movie was Iron Man 3, which is the worst of the 3 Iron Man movies.
A good starfox game that focusses on polished core gameplay, atmosphere, character and charm, without any stupid gimmick tacked on. That's all i'm asking for.
"Until circumstances changed" is particularly notable. There's a story one of the people at GI biz has about the Wii price. The standard practice for major announcements like the pricing of a console is to give journalists a heads up a couple of days prior, embargoed, so they can write their articles to go online the moment the announcement is made. It helps you get your messaging out, it helps them get the news out in a timely manner. Win/win. The Wii followed that for it's price announcement in the UK. With one exception. In the 3 days between getting the info out to journalists and Nintendo upped the price by £10. When this journalist asked the representative he was in official contact with what happened "plans change" was the response.
8:26 Samus. Metroid. You have a dark and frightening SciFi universe with a deeply beloved main lead, in a big powerful suit, doing heroey things. One amazing game can launch her back into the zeitgeist. It might make an excellent launch title for the Switch 2 when that finally comes, if they can time it right. On an unrelated note, gimme Wario.
When I see stuff reappear out of nowhere, I usually assume that something is going to be done with it. For along time there, when Turner Classic Movies pulls a movie out of the mothballs and gives it a prime spot for a showing, I made the assumption that a new DVD or Blu-Ray release of said movie was in the offing, and I was usually right. So when I see something like Golden Sun get a re-release on the Switch, I find myself wondering if it's a way to test the waters and see if there's still a market for the property. So if they're talking to more companies, maybe we can put those two ideas together, and look at some of those re-releases, and wonder a little more creatively about why they were released.
Nintendo relies HEAVILY on quality control to maintain their brand. That's how they get away with charging 60 bucks for almost decade-old games. If it's an important IP, they make sure the game is polished until it shines before release. We also know from Metroid Prime 4 that they're willing to take an IP away from a studio if they think it's being handled poorly. The exception to all this is Pokemon. The Pokemon IP is SO lucrative, they'd rather turn a blind eye than risk upsetting Pokemon Company with demands of quality control. Thus rushed Pokemon games continue to drag down Nintendo's image.
@@jclkaytwo cause they were desperately trying to get the wii u off the ground. Even then, they were still polished for the most part, just a lot had lacking content. amiibo festival was polished, but it was an empty and badly designed game despite that polish.
There's gotta be some contract that Gamefreak demands to be the only Company to develop the main line Pokémon games. If you look at the other games they've made besides Pokémon, they're all bad. Pokémon is the only franchise that keeps them relevant.
Pokemon aren't dragging on what is already flawed, it is part of what is flawed. Nintendo has this issue of being really good with spinoffs, till they then try to force a mainline series to be that. Regardless of if it goes good or bad it turns the community into a toxic cesspool because one side must lose. Paper Mario saw the result of this, and Zelda is facing this more and more now. Regardless of what side you like, you win at the expense of another and lose at your own expense. Had these been simply spin offs we could have our 2D, 3D, and Mario Karts. This current way Nintendo is handling it is you get 2D or 3D Mario and the other dies. This is the current issue Pokemon is facing, it is trying to turn its 2D into 3D while killing 2D.
16:40 Okay...to be fair, I kinda want a video of that happening ALMOST as much as new Golden Sun itself...I still want a New Golden Sun, like, gimme gimme gimme...and maybe either ignore Dark Dawn or treat it as an alternate timeline?
The problem is even if you do an alternate timeline... Dark Dawn's plot would remain unresolved. I'd honestly prefer a true sequel to Dark Dawn and just make it much, much better than Dark Dawn. We can headcanon away anything they retcon from the previous games if it's written well enough.
@@Lucrei. I mean, the plot was kind of...bad for a lot of the run, though some of that was due to the limited scope it had, and who was telling the story of the first two games to the kids. That said, I'd drop all the old cast, and set something in the timeline a long time later(100+ years), maybe including a story of how they resolved Dark Dawns plot in a book, rather than trying to finish a story that has gone unresolved for so long.
@@SageofStars You're not wrong and that's a pretty good idea. Truth be told I just want to know what they found when they took the god damn paraglider... I can't believe the game ended RIGHT before that would have been answered. It was literally the entire impetus for their journey and it had NO payoff. The worst case of a misfired Chekov's Gun I've ever seen in a video game. Still frustrates me so much 14 years later. I'm stewing :'D
@@Lucrei. Certainly know that feeling, and to be fair, it's a case of, they thought the second game was in the bag, but due to mistiming, and TERRIBLE marketing for it, along with competition at the time from some Mobile RPGs which were just as technically good as what was coming out on the DS, it didn't do as well. Mind, then Mobile went down the toilet and you won't find many good RPGs on it at all anymore, sadly, and of course.
Let me quickly add some context, iron man has never been unknown, or a niche superhero. maybe he was a BIT less well known to people who didn't follow marvel, but even then, his face was on a LOT of their big stuff before the movie. He was always on the avengers, he got big storylines, he was a partner and friend to captain america, he was a big part of events like civil war, the kree skrull war, secret wars 1984, things like that. 2008 iron man just put him into the even more mainstream limelight, but he wasn't a niche superhero. I mean, he was a founding member of the avengers
Next Level Games reviving the Luigi's Mansion series is probably my favorite example of an outside studio reviving a long thought dead Nintendo franchise and it makes me proud to be Canadian.
@Lucrei. I agree. They even brightened the environments in the remake of the original on 3DS which kind of hurt the atmosphere I find. Games are still good though.
Just wanted to mention that we don't want to forget about Cadence of Hyrule where they let an indie dev use the Zelda IP and Way forward doing the advanced war remake. These might of helped get ball rolling if this rumor is true.
Nintendo: We could do that... we could... OR... OR... OR Camelot: Please master.... no... please no... no more... Nintendo: MORE MARIO SPORTS BAYBEEEE!!! *cracks whip* $$$$$$$$$ :D :D :D Camelot: *whimper*
If they made a StarFox game, and made Fox look more like he did in Adventure/Assault, and not like his more "modern" look where they made him look like a rug..... That would be nice.
I gotta say, in a world where people never stop complaining about the "endless sea of remakes and sequels", it's kind of refreshing to have someone say - not just sincerely, but almost joyously - "No, keep doing that".
The fact that we now live in a world where remakes of the Oracle games are expected to be coming is just more than I ever could have asked for from the company that sits on IP unless some sort of new gimmick is involved.
I mean yes, but they're probably being made by Grezzo and I'm not a fan of their work. I know I'm in the minority there, but I'm a huge Zelda fan and it miffs me that Nintendo don't respect Zelda enough anymore to do all of its products in-house like they used to (bar the three Capcom games, but hey - it was mother-flipping !CAPCOM!)
Sad fact: Many of the Disney+ Star Wars shows that flopped were conceived as movies and adapted to shows... Andor wasn't written as a Star Wars show, and bought by Disney. Proves Arlo's point. They jevwr to levwrage the IP by attaching it to good scripts, not start printing scripts just because they have IPs.
16:09 the studio that makes Golden Sun is till around and regularly works with Nintendo so I don’t think working with more 3rd parties will make another one come out. I’d like to think Camelot at least has right of first refusal. EDIT: "Hiroyuki Takahashi: First of all, I love that game and I love the world of Golden Sun. We think we have to make another one. We have to do it! Not just that we have to do it, but we want to do it. Nintendo has asked us to please make it. But at the same time we haven’t gotten around to making it. We’re not really sure why. (laughs)"
10:30 I would love if this kind of thing were feasible, but the truth is even if your budget is infinite, you employees can only work so hard and it takes a lot of work to find the right people to direct a project. Could they do more? Probably. But too much would overload their employees. Unlike Disney, Nintendo cares about their employees and the finished product and probably don't rush them like they are factory workers.
I want a third DKC returns game, Monster games who made the 3DS port of returns made some pretty decent levels for it so maybe they could make the next one.
I'm all kinds of game for underrepresented Nintendo franchises getting some well needed love. Donkey Kong, Star Fox, F Zero etc. I'm glad we might be seeing this, fingers crossed.
It makes me so happy to hear an update on Arlo’s Muppet opinions. Also, am I the only one who wants that prawn Muppet to disappear and never return? He is the culmination of everything wrong with modern Muppets for me.
In the early years of the switch, we got age of calamity, Mario and Rabbids, and cadence of Hyrule. This doesn't feel like they're picking up the pace. It feels like you're understating how fast the pace has been
Our desires are SO aligned. This is my first time hearing a content creator mention Eternal Darkness, on top of everything else you said in this video.
SEGA still a great company... kinda wish they were still in the console business - they were great competition for Nintendo specifically to diversify their IP
Being a Muppet fan is suffering. I genuinely really liked Muppets Mayhem, thought it did a good job of having muppets i grew to care about not to mention some rocking music. But of course that means it was cancelled.
If Jim Henson had died, like, 10 years later, then I think The Muppets would be in a much better place. While Christmas Carol proved that the Muppets could live on without Jim, it quickly became clear that they were missing a fearless creative mind that got them this far in the first place. While I adore The Muppets (2011), and I really like Muppets Most Wanted, Haunted Mansion, and Mayhem, and it's a miracle that we got The Muppet Show on Disney+, I think selling them to Disney was a mistake. Disney got the Muppets at the end of Eisner's reign as CEO and long after he lost interest in acquiring them. It's pretty clear that Disney views The Muppets as a much more disposable brand than Marvel or Star Wars. They'll greenlight a project every once in a while, but they'll never give the francise the love it deserves.
@@BrendanJSmith I think on some level a part of it is that Disney has pretty much decided CGI is The Way Forward and has been doing more and more digitally to the point that we had a freaking strike in large part because of actors concerned they'd eventually be totally replaced. The Muppets are INHERENTLY the realm of not only practical effects, but practical effects mastery; they'll use cg every now and again but puppetry is by nature all about the practical and Henson and Oz championed that proudly. Which ultimately means some nonzero number of people making decisions about the Muppets not only don't get it, but hate everything those fuzzy lil dudes stand for.
When I saw Cadence of Hyrule, I, like I imagined many others, were salivating at the prospect of other indie studios getting to make spinoffs for classic Nintendo IP. And then, it just...didn't happen again... In fact, if nothing else, Nintendo has just gotten far more vicious in their takedown of fangames and independent projects in recent years. I would instead be trying to ID the most popular and brand-safe ones and trying to sell them on the eShop. As for Wario Land, if I were in charge of Nintendo, not only would I make it a priority to get Pizza Tower on Switch immediately, but I'd also give Tour De Pizza the rights to do whatever they wanted with Wario for that game. From as simple as a Wario character mod, to a DLC side mode, or even to a full fledged sequel.
@@orangeslash1667 Ah, didn't know about that one - it looks really fun! My point still stands as Pizza Tower (very deservedly) became a wildly popular and successful phenomenon, but I wish the Anton Blast devs all the luck.
@@chaoticcranium The reason Wario was created is because Nintendo R and D 1 runout of ideas for Mario Land, and wanted to work on something they created. Sadly R and D 1 was shut down. Funny Fact: the designer for Wario is also the designer for Samus.
SEGA is seemingly doing what Arlo is talking about. Bringing back Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe and Crazy Taxi among others. Thanks to the likes of Sonic, Yakuza and Persona, SEGA is a lot more willing to reinvest in their older IPs. I’m digging the sense of synergy where the bigger franchises help pave way for “smaller ones”, much like how Mario, Zelda and Kirby could make way for another StarFox, F-Zero and Golden Sun. Working with third parties is how SEGA is going about utilizing their IP catalog.
...They can also give it to Grezzo. If indie studios are going to work with big Nintendo IP, they should be putting twists on them and giving us something new, like what we saw with Cadence of Hyrule
@@PikaPhantomVG I would prefer Grezzo to make brand new Zelda games rather then continuing to butcher the old ones, although I concede I'm in the minority on the latter part... Not only that but new content is better than remakes we don't need, regardless of whether they're good or not. Of course I'd prefer Nintendo to handle all mainline Zelda games in-house like they used to and like they continue to do for Mario, but what do I know... I guess Splatoon is more important than Zelda now in their eyes.
Just off last year and this january, NIntendo has already done projects with: Arc System Works who developed Another Code Recollection Arte Piazza who developed the Mario RPG Remake WayForward who developed Advance Wars Reboot Camp The ball is already rolling
It surprised when I saw arc system works in the credits for another code. Usually they focus on fighting games, so it was intriguing seeing ASW branch off and with a nintendo ip to boot.
ArcSys did the Another Code collection? THAT I didn't expect... hm. Maybe because of their experience in cel-shading? Or maybe because they just happened to be available.
@@Mal-go5dl and even more so when they're a poor remake from a series that is CRYING out for new content (Advance Wars in particular, but probably applies to many others)
Another instance where Arlo brings up Wario Land. Again, I find it weird that he's interested in Wario Land when he said he's not into 2D platformers all that much. He could be using it as an example of using an Indie developer to revive a long-dormant IP, but he similarly demanded a new Wario Land when WarioWare: Move It! was announced. I would LOVE to see a video from Arlo talking about his feelings on the Wario Land series more.
@@orangeslash1667 I'm well-aware of that... And it's coming to the Nintendo Switch (unlike Pizza Tower, which doesn't seem to be coming to consoles anytime soon), so Arlo has an excuse to talk about Wario Land then.
@@Rubberman202 The reason Wario was created is because Nintendo R and D 1 runout of ideas for Mario Land, so they needed to do something new. However R and D 1 was shutdown. The only reason was Shake it was green lite is because of Takahiro Harada, of one the programers of ML2 6 golden coins. The good news is that Good Feel made a new adventure game.
I'm not an Earthbound fan but I want fans of the series to get an officially localised version of Mother 3. Point being: It's not that weird to want things that will make other people happy, ESPECIALLY when it's similar to situations you care about i.e. Nintendo being stupid with franchises you have personal investment in.
You know, I’m not sure I agree too much with the “just make more and more” request. Sure, it’s effin’ awesome to think of more Nintendo stuff to play (especially Metroid in my case). But I like to think that scarcity is also part of what makes each entry special. Take Metroid Dread for example: It’s really damn special to just have it. But would it be if it was just the 15th entry in the series? Now I know you speak more about stuff that could use a bit more attention from Nintendo’s part. But that’s where it starts. And then in 10 years those might be the new CODs or ACs. Because output frequency becomes the focus rather than whatever else Nintendo prioritizes now. In short, I feel like the fact that they don’t make THAT many games is part of why most games turn out to be something special, something great.
Okay yes, but there's a balance. 20+ years is too fucking long. That's about 25% of someone's life... Once every 5-6 years? That's about where it should be. 10 years MAX. A decade is a stupidly long amount of time... and anything more (like a lot of these series have) is just a travesty for their fans.
I'm down for literally any property in their back catalogue they feel like dusting off. But I beg of you, Nintendo! Put the story in *my* hands whenever you get around to bringing back Star Fox!
I would love a Starfox game where there's even more branching paths and a choose your own adventure, that includes lots of anime cut scenes so it feels like you are in an actual cartoon - like hours of footage. You could play online with a ton of other players. It would be cool if Falco left the Federation for the Rebels and you can ether join The Rebels or even join Wolf with the Pirates, so you can choose between order/Federation (Peppy would stick with them), chaos/Rebels and evil/pirates. I would have Slippy follow you wherever you went but even add extra characters to the game.
How about a main stream Star Fox game with a campaign like Star Fox Command? Command's campaign is probably the most complex of any Star Fox game, and the game is mostly held back by the graphical and control limitations of the DS (that's pre-DSi and 3DS, so yeah, not great).
Ubisoft literally just asked Nintendo can we make a Starfox game? They made Starlink a few years ago with the starfox add on. People only bought that game for starfox. So why not let them make an open world solar system game with starfox, without any toy add on controllers.
I like your thinking, kick down the door "We want a new Golden Sun, who wants to make it?" On the flip side, if they wait for someone comes to them and says they really want to do something, they can be more sure it may have the passion behind it and not just competing with each other to secure a contract.
I want Arlo to start reviewing more puppet stuff! We see those occasional instances where his clear love of Jim Henson, or the Muppets, or just puppetry in general, but nothing every concrete. I want to see him review some stuff, and to geek out over the older projects that got him into the field! Tell me about puppets Arlo!
my biggest concern about your complaints is that NN is not doing bad, and seems to be driving their strategy very well. so, why should they pivot? why more games, why more? it might only canibalize the sales of other games that have higher priority. I would argue that those decent selling games would keep the same numbers if more of those smaller titles would be released yearly. people want to spend limited amount of money on games. so, part of those already engaged customers would just buy another title, which increases the cost per game unit for multiple games in the end. OK, yes, new golden sun, but far away in time from mario rpg reissue or some zelda reboot. or, yes, new punch out, but don't be having mario&sonic olympics in the same year to be released. Bottom line, I am fine with NNs dynamic now as I saw during Wii U and Game Cube time. I still bought the same number of games for those systems as I did for Switch.
Okay yes obviously schedule as best you can but I don't really see that as a priority, make the stuff and people can choose what they play. The mega series are always going to make bank anyway, so you just have to decide when you release the smaller IPs. If you think it might be able to really take off then you can put it in a gap and see some growth. If you think it it will just do the usual kinda numbers put it out alongside a heavy hitter and you minimise financial risk as the big title can support the small one you have less faith in. Give the consumers the choice... that's the answer and what they already did during their entire history until probably Wii U on-wards.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention cadence of hyrule! Nintendo gave one of their biggest IPs to a very small indie studio and let them make a game with it, and it turned out fantastic!
I mean, Arlo specifically said in THIS video that he isn't saying they should just indiscriminately green-light everything. But surely it wouldn't hurt if they aimed for, like, one new game in a dormant series per year or something.
@@TyrantWesker hell yeah, that sounds like a great way to flex their strong position and please fans at the same time... just actual new games please (remakes and remasters DO NOT count for dormant series)
Marvels decline in quality resulted directly from Kevin Feige being spread too thin across too many projects. I imagine they're trying to avoid this. Nintendo quality control is the best of any publisher their size
The biggest issue I can see is that nintendo has always been about quality. The 80's gaming crash was all about 3rd party developers flooding the market with cheap poor quality products often made with ridiculous amounts of crunch time, and Nintendo became the gaming Juggernaut it is by establishing a strict quality threshold for anything licenced for release. We are seeing the same sort of industry trends now that we saw then, and while I think Nintendo should work with outside studios to increase their release schedule it needs to be tempered by maintaining Nintendo's quality standards (this would be especially useful if we do get the predicted Switch 2 in the near future, as more release games is always helpful for sales).
8:24 😮hold on Arlo that is misinformation. Disney didn't do anything to start Ironman in movies and bring into the modern era. Disney bought marvel either right before or after ironman 2. I have to double check but either way they juat fanned the fire of the character they didnt have anything to do with the 1st 2 movies.
What’s most exciting about this prospect would be Nintendo putting these smaller studios in touch with their stable of character designers/ composers etc and just generally helping them connect with talent they might not be able to get otherwise. Nintendo could take a backseat while helping out enough to ensure the games still have that Nintendo magic to them.
Counter argument on Disney (and Pokémon or Sonic...): My opinion is that by releasing so much new materials for all their IP they are burning out their audiances. Many people are experiencing Star Wars and Marvel fatigue because of the never ending onslaught of releases. They might also drive themselves into bankruptcy... (EDIT: I should have finished the video before commenting X'D)

I'm so happy we've got it - one of my favorite Switch games ever, and one that I've never regretted going all-in on.

2024 is earthbound's 30th anniversary year, if they ever do a remake or something this would be the year
A TH-camr called MoonChannel made a whole video on why Mother 3 will never be released outside japan.
@@TBustah The other games also have a T rating in their rereleases, so it would probably be stranger for M3 to release as E/E10
Their only real success lately has been most of their animated series.
That and, yknow, making good stories.
If there was an indie studio for a new Wario Land game, I wouldn't choose WayForward, I would choose Tour De Pizza.

Come on, Arlo's not a puppet!
...Though I have heard that he's related to the Cookie Monster...
He's just a Muppet.

There is no way in HEL...
Wait, did he just say new Eternal Darkness?
My man Arlo, Never doubted you for a second!
I really hope there's a shift coming.
I do think Nintendo will make a new Wario Land soon. Pizza Tower has proved that there's still a demand for Wario Land-style games.

Thus rushed Pokemon games continue to drag down Nintendo's image.
why did so many nintendo franchises have crappy games in the wii u and 3DS era then?

You should make a video talking about your thoughts on modern Muppets. I think that'd be interesting!
8:16 correction. Disney did not take Iron Man and make him relevant. Marvel made Iron Man relevant and then Disney bought them.

Yes, Disney took Iron Man, but they weren’t responsible for making him popular again, Marvel did that before being bought out
Want Star Fox.
Want spaceships.
I keep thinking of a dream I had that Summitsphere (Antonblast devs) were working with Nintendo on a new Wario Land game

(laughs)"
Camelot needs Golden Sun, their Mario Sports games are starting to fail.
A remastered localization of Kururin Squash would be nice. Get someone to do it, Nintendo!
I think the biggest take away I got from this was, "Wait there's a new(old) Shantae game?"
I cant wait
I'm all kinds of game for underrepresented Nintendo franchises getting some well needed love. Donkey Kong, Star Fox, F Zero etc. I'm glad we might be seeing this, fingers crossed.

It makes me so happy to hear an update on Arlo’s Muppet opinions.
Also, am I the only one who wants that prawn Muppet to disappear and never return? He is the culmination of everything wrong with modern Muppets for me.
You mean Pepé the King Prawn?
In the early years of the switch, we got age of calamity, Mario and Rabbids, and cadence of Hyrule. This doesn't feel like they're picking up the pace. It feels like you're understating how fast the pace has been
Disney didn't make Iron Man 1, that was before Disney bought Marvel
Our desires are SO aligned. This is my first time hearing a content creator mention Eternal Darkness, on top of everything else you said in this video.
5:28 Nintendo is calculated they’ll do it when the stars align and the timing is perfect
Also a dev has to actually pitch the game
Sega is bringing alot of old IPs back, like, Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio and Shinobi, I miss all and Panzer Dragoon
A series I'd love to see come back is custom robo. I feel like it could be easy for them to get a team to work on something like that
When I saw Cadence of Hyrule, I, like I imagined many others, were salivating at the prospect of other indie studios getting to make spinoffs for classic Nintendo IP.
There is a game called Anton Blast that is like WarioLand.
I totally agree with the indie dev angle. Take 2d Zelda - Nintendo could talk to the Blossom Tales people, or the Tunic or Deaths Door people?
...They can also give it to Grezzo.
I guess Splatoon is more important than Zelda now in their eyes.
me banging on their doors demanding remakes of the first 2 Golden Sun games as well as a new one
I've never actually noticed how long Arlo's neck is!
Just off last year and this january, NIntendo has already done projects with:
Arc System Works who developed Another Code Recollection
Arte Piazza who developed the Mario RPG Remake
WayForward who developed Advance Wars Reboot Camp
The ball is already rolling
It surprised when I saw arc system works in the credits for another code. Usually they focus on fighting games, so it was intriguing seeing ASW branch off and with a nintendo ip to boot.
I can appreciate remakes, but it's tiring when it's half thier output
There is an up coming game called Anton Blast that is like WarioLand.
When you brought up the idea of Nintendo dredging up an old character for the Iron Man treatment, my brain immediately went to Kid Icarus
Completely agree!
I want a Star Fox game that has the same open-world exploration and battles of StarLink but with classic on-rails battle segments for story missions
@@CouchSpud91that's a great idea too
@@chaoslord8918you know, I never played that one but it sounds cool
Star Fox: Fates.
I'd be funny if it turned out that Nintendo is just working on 3 new Urban Champion games.
8:14 "*Marvel took Iron Man . . ." Iron Man w/RDJ was a hit before Disney bought Marvel
Ubisoft literally just asked Nintendo can we make a Starfox game? They made Starlink a few years ago with the starfox add on. People only bought that game for starfox. So why not let them make an open world solar system game with starfox, without any toy add on controllers.
Nintendo’s Iron Man is Samus, obviously
Iron Woman.
I like your thinking, kick down the door "We want a new Golden Sun, who wants to make it?"
On the flip side, if they wait for someone comes to them and says they really want to do something, they can be more sure it may have the passion behind it and not just competing with each other to secure a contract.
I like how the one bookmark on that tweet is probably Arlo
If Nintendo started green lighting everything to the point of over-saturation Arlo would be the FIRST one to criticize them.
1:31 The Goods (:
I was unaware the Muppets had fans.
"the muppets." was so great. I want that to go on for like 10 seasons.
For someone that uses a plethora of Super Mario RPG songs, I'm quite disappointed that Arlo has yet to play the remaster😢

@jeremytewari3346 😂😂😂
Hopefully something similar to Cadence of Hyrule comes along... Oddly enough I thought there was going to be more games from indie studios.
Yea me too
AD Skip/Jump Time is 1:30, you're welcome.
Arlo, My blue friend, I hope so.
Wish they would take a risk on a full fledged F-Zero game since F-Zero 99 turned out to be my favorite game of 2023.
I always get a big shot of dopamine whenever I see a new Arlo video notification.
