    This takes me back to my childhood of watching Jacque Cousteau, The Wild Kingdom and Carl Sagan's Cosmos then Disney of course. Star Trek was the rage and Kung Fu rounded it all out. As a 70's and 80's kid I was raised by the tv and that line up taught me about the natural world, the unexplored worlds and the nature of humanity's inner world. I've never had a better teacher and Neil DeGrasse Tyson keeps my childhood wonder alive to this day. Thank You, Neil.

    It was the constant camera switching. It felt TVish rather than being part of the audience, I much rather prefer the one wide screen view where I can see everybody react. Just me, I'm sure others prefer this...if they even noticed. ✌🏽

    Life doesn't just exist on earth and biology doesn't just work on earth, life dominates the planet it thrives and flourishes in every nook and cranny. It seems outrageous to think that this planet is the only place it could exist even if we're just talking about cell based life that we are familiar with. Another great Star Talk show leaving us with something to think about.

    • @mickeybrumfield764
      @mickeybrumfield764 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Brandon Letzco
      That life exists beyond earth is realistically beyond the realm of speculation in a universe that is vaster than vast. Something to speculate about is how it could change our existence here on earth if we met intelligent beings that were perhaps thousands of years ahead of us. We would have answers to all the questions we've ever thought of and answers to questions that we've yet to imagine.

      Fun fact, when Neil first started doing this open talks he did it with Eugene Mirman. Eugene told him he should start his own podcast and have a comedian host the show all the time. Thus Star Talk was born. I enjoy chuck too but thats mainly because Ive gotten use to him and warmed up to him. But chuck wouldnt of been around if Eugene never encouraged neil to create his own show with a comedian host. The original show was in this format but it wasnt called star talk back then. So usually when he does these live shows he invites the original comedian that pitched the idea and was there from the beginning. Eugene.

      The pressure wouldn't be as high as you might think. It'd be still in the same rough ballpark as the deepest spots in our ocean, due to the lower gravity-though I have no idea what the pressure is just under the ice, so I can't make a good estimate.

    Extraterrestrial oceans, such as those beneath the icy crusts of moons like Europa and Enceladus, represent some of the most exciting prospects for finding alien life. These subsurface oceans could harbor the conditions necessary for life, despite their extreme environments. The study of these ocean worlds can provide valuable insights into the potential habitability of other celestial bodies. How might future missions to these extraterrestrial oceans alter our search for life and our understanding of life's potential in the cosmos?

    Neil deGrasse Tyson is a truly great science educator. A more than worthy successor to the late Carl Sagan. If I had had a teacher like him... let's just say that things might have been different.

    Everything on this program just touched my heart!!! Time is so precious . By 2040 we find life ? I think before that unless Russia blows us up to pieces!! If the world was at peace we can accomplish so much and unfold the universe even faster than the Webb telescope!!

    A tremendous closing sentence from Neil.
    All those out there who study the ancient
    scriptures of the Veda burst into collective
    OM resounding across the rim of the earth.
    For there you can see it written for millennia.

    not that anyone asked, but quick correction at 24:34
    in ancient greek (according to wikipedia) it’s spelling is “Ούρανός”
    in modern greek, "ου" makes the english “oo”/latin “u” sound, and "ο" alone just makes the english “oh”/latin “o” sound (for those curious "υ" on its own is one of the three letters that makes the english “ee”/latin “i” sound)
    so it wouldnt be “Oranus” like Niel said, it’d be “Uranos”, he accidentally flipped the vowels
    assuming this part of ancient greek is the same as this part of modern greek

    This is only a new show in the sense that it was released on TH-cam a few days ago. I thought Neil DeGrasse Tyson looks a little younger here than in his most recent videos; so I wondered whether this was pre- or post-Covid. Then Kevin Hand at 32:50 talks about the Clipper mission getting to the launchpad “in the year 2022 or 2023” which kind of indicated the show was shot pre-2022. (Actually the mission is now “planned for launch in October 2024” according to Wikipedia). Then at 46:56 the copyright for National Geographic says "2019". Which doesn’t make it any less enjoyable!
