    I always found it weird that he didn't seem to care that his people were just gone and he would likely never see them again but I guess thats just part of his character, Lemonhope would rather not care what others are doing he only came back to help them out of guilt.
    Still sad to think about though.

      Strangely, a lot more of us are like him than we would like to believe. It's sort of in human nature to be selfish, and despite him not being human, that selfishness is portrayed in a very human way. People who get out of places like that, e.g. an extreme example like north Korea or some other oppressive country, or a toxic family, try to build as good of a life for themselves wherever they are knowing just how difficult it would be to try and help everyone back home. Ir they create a barrier arou d it in their mind that leads to that "uncaring" attitude, because survivors guilt is crushing. He was also being abused by so many people. Having been sheltered, he needed to experience life before he could worry about other people. Kinda like healing before you can address certain traumas. People are selfish, that's just how we are. You can't convince me anyone has never been selfish in that way, where you are helped by someone and don't feel any owing-ness to them until you use that help ro the point you can circle back. Think about your teachers, how they helped you and you chalked it up to it being their job. They get thanked when people come back, but not when they first leave.

    The ending has left me with a choking heartache. I don't know what about it makes me feel this way.
    Perhaps it is that he comes back to the room that was waiting for him all this time ( and was very well kept, indicating that the lemonfolk had been maintaining it in good shape for a LONG time ), or maybe it's the fact that it happens in the future where pretty much everything we know from this show is gone. ( at least from what we know from watching the show chronogically ).
    Kinda makes me wonder if our civilisation will ever go this barren, and whether or not some parts of it will seem as if they were frozen in place, like Lemonhope's room.
    Also, the trauma that he has gone through, and the fact that it was guilt that motivated him to return to help. Later, he was finally able to come back and be at peace when everyone was gone - wothout anyone else, he didn't have to feel guilty and responsible anymore.
    I also just realized that his trauma was also kinda holding him back from staying, as he feared any lack of freedom. Responsibility and staying with others also means sacrificing a piece of one's freedom, which Lemonhope was too traumatized to do. He preferred to stay free, at the cost of dying alone

    I just finished this episode and didn’t realize what was happening at first with the cut to years later. It really hit me when I realized that.
    Stories that go out of their way to show the effects of the passage of time have a really powerful effect on me for some reason. All of these characters are likely completely gone and forgotten by the Land of Ooo in this cut forward. It makes me appreciate every episode so much more when a story gives that kind of setting.
    It’s really easy to get lost in just the present time of a story. You hardly ever think about things like historical implications or what the world will be like years after these people have passed away. Not many stories show that kind of thing but when it’s done correctly it’s a real treat.
    I haven’t finished AT yet so obviously I don’t know how each character’s story ends, but seeing this really makes me curious about how it will.

    I liked the Lemonhope story. I think you laid out the theme nicely.
    This is irrelevant to the video but I've heard a lot of speculation about what happened in the Candy Kingdom 1000+ but I have my own theory. Maybe someone's said it before, Idk, but we wonder what happened that the Kingdom was abandoned.
    In the last episode, during the intro, when we see the Candy Kingdom, there are these arcs w a "G" in them, somewhat similar to the Gumbald design. Now, seconds later, we see Gibbon at the top of the tower. So, many ppl think its G for Gibbon or Gumbald but I have a 3rd theory. So, during BMOs song, we get a special look at Golbs demons at the Candy Kingdom but we also get a special look at 2 forgotten characters. I believe the G stands for Goliad. Why show Stormo and Goliad fighting when we havent seen them since the ep that event occurred?
    So, in the Lemonhope story, PBs song, to support this, when you see the candy streets, on the left, theres a pink sign that sorta looks like a lollipop- or, Goliads eye stalk. I strongly believe Goliad was released from the conflict w Stormo, in a similar manner to how Uncle Gumbald returned- off screen, during Elements.

    • @paxw37
      @paxw37  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That is pretty interesting. I always thought them showing Goliad and Stormo was just a way of showing them off in the final episode. But you're right, surely at some point, they had to have been interrupted

    • @MythX_StoryTeller
      @MythX_StoryTeller ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@paxw37 I think so- it would explain the presence of the Prizeball Guardian, why its seeking Candy citizens and the pink handed incarcerated figure in the last ep intro. To protect the citizens, they're collected and induced to sleep. Otherwise, Goliad would mind control them- as Goliad probably has to others by this point.
      Another power house would be awakening again, by the time 1K begins- I've heard theories about why much of future Ooo is covered in ice, mostly related to Orgalorg Ice King. My favorite theory suggests he returned to his IK ways of stealing princess as he outlived and grieved Turtle Princess. However, Gibbon's possession of the crystal eye suggests something far more malign. But I have a simple speculation about the expansion of Ice Kingdom- Patience St. Pym.
      She assuredly avoided many of the events as a super charged, pure ice elemental. Theres apparently some kind of elemental conflict arising once more in Ooos future and I'm certain Patience had something to do w it.
      But as for Goliad, Gibbon is probably something like a figure head or a "high priest", or at the least, a general, who Carrie's out Goliads commands. Obviously, Gibbon has something against the pup descendants and is afraid of their power, so he extinguishes their powers. But, it's also obvious that the pup descendants are a force in Ooos future. Goliad may endorse this after recalling her interactions w Jake- Goliad was visibly frightened by Jake, when he was yelling at the candy kids. And the pup descendants are powerful.
      Ugh, I end these commentaries like this often but we need AT 1k lol

    Nah while I appreciate where you're going for the problem is that The message only works if you ignore the victim blaming gas lighting that is going on here.
    When you shred away the obfuscation it becomes clear that this is just a leisure activity on bubble gums part. She's literally using hope as a pawn to construct a narrative of a hero overcoming the opressor and then becoming the benevolent ruler.
    Introspective dreams have been shown in the series to have two sources either someone with magic or the cosmic owl. The problem is because if the dreams are honestly introspective the cosmic owl would be somewhere in them and they only start after he gets taken by bubble gum. They are clearly artificially created by her in an effort to guilt him into doing what she wants which is really messed up. She choose to make fake peace treaties and leave Lemongrab broken just like she chose to use a child for her own amusement.

      I do agree with you. I think PB isn't a great person, and she obviously forced her believes onto him, even though that's not something he wanted. But the Cosmic Owl actually had the choice to enter one of those dreams Lemonhope had. We see that in the episode "Hoots" when the Cosmic Owl goes dream searching for the bird woman, he swipes by Lemonhope's chain dream that he had. But, these still could be Lemonhope's own dreams, but they are caused by the pressure that he feels from PB and that's not right, which I do agree with.

    When I first watched these episodes, I was convinced Boxingday was Princess Bubblegum in disguise, trying to get through to Lemonhope using a different, albeit it more manipulative tactic. On reflection though, I wonder if this could have been a relative of hers from the mothergum, like Neddy. After all, there were a lot of other faces in that gum, and PB did say that she missed the company. Maybe she kept in touch with some of the others who struck out on their own

  • @Luc42

    It's funny how Lemongrab and Lemonhope are two sides of the same coin. Lemongrab was one of Princess Bubblegum's very first mistakes. He's sour in a kingdom full of sweet. He's the only one of Bubblegum's creations that does not need to be coddled and cared for like a small child. He's a "mistake" because the only person he can tolerate is himself and finds things others find repulsive to be acceptable.
    Lemonhope is a sweet, relatively normal and talented lemon person who makes music and is considered a freak by Lemongrab the same way that Princess Bubblegum considered Lemongrab to be an abomination.
    The real tragedy is for the lemon people. Take Lemongrab 2's final words:
    "Lemon brothers! Stop! Stop and LISTEN! It has cost me much, but I have learned: Lemon need not squeeze Lemon to survive. Lemonhope, go forth! Grow strong and return for us!"
    Lemongrab 2 only learned to be selfless because he's always had a companion in the original Lemongrab. He's compassionate because he's never been alone. The original Lemongrab can't change and, more importantly, _doesn't want_ to change. He's always been selfish and always will be selfish.
    The lemon people poured their hopes into Lemonhope and defied their tyrannical ruler based on the hope that Lemonhope would one day return to free his people. But Lemonhope never had any interest in repaying that debt. His only goal is the freedom to make his own choices. He has no interest in ruling, as much as PB and Finn try to steer him in that direction.
    Lemonhope does eventually return and defeat the tyrannical Lemongrab, but leaves soon after and is gone for well over 1000 years. By the time he returns, the Candy Kingdom is in ruins and the Earldom of Lemongrab stands empty. The lemon people were not saved. The Earldom never gets their benevolent ruler, as Lemongrab 3 is not as tyrannical as his predecessor but is in no way a selfless leader as Princess Bubblegum had intended Lemonhope to become.

Look at Lemon Jon, he had a change of heart atcthe moment of his death. Princess Bubblegum caused all this and she's to blame, she put all this responsibility on a child when she had: Finn, Jake, Marceline and herself! But she wanted to train Lemon hope so he could save the people and do her work.
