You should do a whole video where you design a room only with furniture and home decor pieces bought at a thrift store or various ones. that would be soo cool😊🏠
I really love this makeover! My only suggestion is that the curtains should be hung a little higher. Curtain rods should be hung 1/3 or 1/2 of the distance from the top of the window frame to the ceiling. In this case, it would also help with the pooling of the curtains on the floor too.
Yes i agree, but i just think that she didn't want to put holes in the wall. I personally loooove the curtains high but sometimes im just overwhelmed with all the holes im going to put in the rental 😏
I had to wait until it got to the curtains, but it looks like she made new holes anyway. It definitely should be higher. But overall the room looks nice
I loved this because I have an online boutique and run it from my home so everything has to be kept there. I also sew and make things for the shop and myself so I have TONS of supplies and crafts. I'm always looking for great storage tips for small busy items. I too use Ikea a LOT in my office space and have recently been trying to do a makeover because it became more of a storage room and I couldn't even work in it. I love your use of the clear acrylic holders as well. Layla has beautiful items so it's fun to see them but you did it in a way that it doesn't look cluttered and busy. I only hope I can achieve the same in my little office soon.
Absolutely fantastic! You’ve transformed this room completely. I love that you made so much space that you could bring in an armchair and fit it in without making the room look cluttered! Loads of room for her to walk about in. I love it!!
I'm a huge fan of this makeover. The use of trinkets and baskets from thrift stores looks great. I would live a velvet chair too. It all looks great!!!
Love the pink velvet curtains a fantastic way to give her the pink but still have white walls. Also I love the fact that the mirror is frame less. Well done.
It's gorgeous. I have a shoe wall too, and did the shelves at first (actually the LACK ones from IKEA), but eventually I changed them to Billy book cases, and it looks gorgeous. One thing I find that gives a 'messy' look though is arranging shoes like you guys did in this video. I know it saves space when you let some shoes turn forward and others back, but it looks so pleasing to an ocd type person if the pairs face the same way. You can then turn one pair forward, and the next back to save space - but it also looks so much more organized. :)
Just from an armchair critiquing perspective......I would have switched the Billy bookcases with the open clothing storage (which I loved the look of) - I think it would have looked better by the shoes & the bookcases would not have been so in your face as u walked thru the door. As others have commented curtains should have been hung higher & steamed. One more thing it might have looked nice to have a removable wallpaper on the back wall of the Billy bookcases - you know behind the shelves - a cute print that would have pulled the pink door & curtains together. But overall the room looked so much better & was fun to watch!!
Small tip, with love, from a sister decorator... I love your vids by the way :). You keep me inspired.. Try hanging your drapery brackets farther out from window frame, & closer to finials. This allow the fabric to drape straight & comfortably, when in the open position. while also helps create a sense of a larger window. Get me? Best to you in more fun content!! Thanks!
You do such creative redos....simple...clean...functional....and user friendly. We have similar design ideas....but you definitely have more ideas than me. Btw....I forgot to comment on your patio makeover....so inviting....my fav was the light with a BATTERY operated BULB....whaaaat....love everything you do.
You should do a video on scarf organizing!!!! I have like a hundred of them no matter what I do the storage looks messy. Can you think of something which would actually like display all of my scarves without making them look bulky or messy? I have a feeling you can turn this into art!
Woven baskets look pretty stowed above a cabinet or on floor, but I worry about dust. Those clear acrylic boxes w/lids seem best for neatly color coded & folded scarves. Labels aren't always required.
OMG amazing makeover, it went from teen closet room to chic boutique look. I do agree the storage closet and bookcases were a hit and the lamp and that mustard wing chair gave it a cozy feel along with the oriental rug. I have a double closet with the 4 sets of metal paneled doors, a lot of dust accumulates on those openings and the space at each end inside the closet is weird and nothing fits in there and is like wasted space all the way from the floor to the ceiling.
Love this solution so much! Love vintage, love organization, love the baskets with the little tags on them, love the mustard chair, the added doors to the shelf. This gave me a lot of tips, thanks!
I love this! Very nice and organized! I recently took everything out of my closet. Painted it white, put purses and shoes on display and it made a huge difference ! It’s a walk in closet but not huge. Added cubes, clear tray, a pic of my BFF & I even added lighting for the inner diva 💁♀️ I am now doing my daughters closet because she loves mine 👛 & this is getting me excited all over again! Thanks 👍🏻
Absolutely wonderful. So glad you kept the blush accent. Wish you could've kept the flamingo print. Who would've thought mustard and blush work; the rug helps this. You always make me want to get up and clean something. I want cute too!
So awesome! I love the white walls with the pink door, just that little pop of color, and who doesn't love pink? That shelving unit from Ikea is amazing! Everything has a place and it does look like you can just shop right off of the rack, I like that feature. This just makes me want to clean my own closet and dressing area and make it more user friendly, also give everything a fresh bright coat of white paint, lol. Great video.
For people who DONT like an open closet; they can just install a curtain rod at the very top and hang a neutral color curtain (preferably one that matches the walls to further "camouflage" it). Then when you need to grab anything it just slides open like a shower curtain does. And if you're really crafty you can prob install wheels at the bottom for easy moving when its time to get it out of the room.
I am like Layla...lots of everything! My biggest problem is see-able storage for my longer, larger shrugs/sweaters/jackets. They are in a plastic tote now...ugly! And the area is out in the open in my bedroom where I store them now. Maybe something rustic. (Oooow, maybe a rectangle basket, hummm) I have like 50+ and do not want to hang them and get shoulder marks because most of them are like a yarn fabric. Plus they would take up too much room in my closet. I have a rustic cowboy themed bedroom and closet, so I was thinking maybe a huge storage trunk/chest that opens maybe with some drawers/dividers inside for organization. I've looked and cannot find a trunk like I think would work. Do you have any suggestions or other ideas? Please help, I am stuck!!
I like the usage of vintage items to store. I'd just switch her purple makeup mirrow with the Ikea one with wood around it. But WOW that big mirrow 👌 and loooove the light pink touches
I so need to do this for my summer closet. I have a room like this for summer clothes. I struggle with shoes and clothes in the same space when you have two layers of clothes hanging. I like the way you did the shoes on one wall and clothes on a separate wall. Looks great!
I live in a two bedroom apartment in Sydney. Both bedrooms have built-in wardrobes and the space is a lot for one person (me). I still struggle with organising them;; I was very neat when I moved in and cleaned everything. I threw out / let go of a lot of clothes and still struggle with some. I'm not very tall (5'2") so if something is beyond my reach, I tend not to reach for it. I don't have a lot of furniture in the main bedroom (15 square metres - which is big!) except, a bed, one side table, a laundry basket, a square box storage which doubles as a sort of stand. I also use the laundry basket as a storage. One of the things I notice about having things out in the open is that dust comes in easily! I'm always looking at ideas on your channel and others on how to organise my room. right now, it has a slightly scandi or japanese look because of the lack of furniture. I'm struggling with the living-dining room space because it's not too big and I want to separate it living from dining but haven't done so... so for now I don't have a dining table, just a sofa and coffee table. I don't own a tv so it's not cluttered. No dining table and nothing else in the living room.... I wish I could afford a stylist to advise me on ideas as I'm not terribly creative. Thanks for your videos: I really like watching you transform various places and I like all the ideas you come with.
From someone who is old enough to be your Mom, thank you for your videos 😊 You are uber talented, easy to listen to, and don't take for-EVER to get to the point! And bonus points, you're Canadian 😉 Keep up the amazing work! 💛
Huge challenge for me: sweaters. Bulky knits, which I love wearing and need to wear since I live in the freezing cold Canadian prairies. I have a lot of them, but my fold and stack method is not working, because if I want to pull out a sweater in the middle of the stack, the whole thing topples over. And if I tried putting them in a dresser, say, I’d need 3 huge dressers because big sweater are space consuming. I’d love to have some ideas on how to manage my Cold Canadian Girl sweater wardrobe:)
KJ Konkin I’ve had the same issue! I store mine in an IKEA chest of drawers, and it always turns into a mess when I fold them and stack them on top of each other. I gave the Marie Kondo folding method a go and it works a treat!! Just have a quick google “Marie Kondo Sweater folding” - so worth it for drawers! If you don’t have a drawer, try getting some material bins (not basket becauSe it will pull on the fabric) and sorting them upright in there, and then place the basket onto the shelf 😊
What about a box and kind of slot them in so you can see them all at once. Like instead of folding and stacking them top to bottom stack them front to back. When you take one out they won’t fall apart because they are in a box
I bought those wire grid cube organizers that you can find on Amazon and put one to two layers on the shelf in my closet. All my sweaters are rolled (to the best of their ability) and I organize them in each cube by color. That way I am stacking less together, and when I pull one from the bottom they don't fall due to them being rolled. Not sure if I described that well...
Try folding them and storing them upright, like Marrie Condo does. I live in the Netherlands and also have a lot of sweaters, which I store upward in drawers. Do not hang them, because it can stretch them.
Hi loved how you brought function and beauty in it. The biggest problem I have is walk-in closets seem to be impossible to keep tidy. Can’t keep everything on display as we are two sharing a closet 😒
Really enjoyed this makeover and tips with organization! I'm sooo jealous of her clothes and vintage finds, and this beautiful new space! I don't know if this could be a dedicated video or what.. but my spouse and I are planning to move downtown soon, likely in either a studio or 1 bedroom. We really struggle with storage for all of our clothes, especially if there's just one closet and one dresser in a room. It would be super beneficial if you did a video on like clothes storage tips when you aren't living on your own.
Love this! Just a little thing - I'd cover or paint over the screws on the shelf brackets - w/everything white, they really stand out, but not in a good way.
I have a 52" by 32" regular sized closet and want to take the time to totally reorganize it. I was looking at some IKEA storage products and was wondering if you might have any suggestions as to how I would organize the storage space. I store things like clothes, shoes accessories, art supplies and other items.
You made the number one window treatment mistake. Never hang your curtains right at where the window begins, hang them as close to the ceiling at possible! It pulls your eye upwards and makes the room feeling larger and taller!
RIGHT! We were so sad we couldn't hang it higher (I still have a hidden hole I have to fill from us trying #rentalwoes (My walls are pure drywall! hahah yeesh) But you are SO right. It pained Alex and I to hang it there
🌸Thx. Hearing these kind of details (esp about rental woes) in a makeover is very helpful. 🌸 Plz hang art lower on wall. The marvelous Ms. G has a habit of hanging posters & wall vignettes too high. They should be @ 👁level (center of piece should roughly be 60" from floor). 🌸 💗 Propped, even layered, art on consoles, ledges & inside cabinets. (Don't mind as much how high art on shelves in cabinets go.) Good idea to use command hooks & picture wire to keep them from falling & breaking.☺
@@teresacarle294 agree.... I mentioned that about the artwork it's hung too high and I probably would not hang up my hat's I want those in hat boxes to keep them from getting dusty and dirty. 😉
I made a similar mistake hanging mine. I placed the brackets too close to the window frame. You need to move the brackets as far apart as you can so you can draw back the curtains. They're currently blocking in the curtains in the closed position. I had to redrill and use filler on the inner holes, but the curtains cover them now.
Very NIce job! ?Label the shelf under the seasonal baskets. Maybe too, add inexpensive rod and drape as option to top of storage unit so when closed the reflection in mirror is better back drop for trying on clothing and over all neatness...just cover the shelves so half drape. Oh...also a folding step stool is a must and much safer for reaching high places.
Question! My master walk in closet also houses my hot water heater. 🤦 I rent and just moved in,and also love fashion. I want my closet to get me excited. How do I hide it?
@@DirtyPrancing yes, a room divider could work & is not permanent. 🚨 For safety reasons, don't crowd water heater. Since these appliances can leak, it's a good idea not to store anything you wouldn't wish to lose directly on floor next to it. Lidded plastic bins would work fine too.
Nice wardrobe makeover! I want to create an open concept wardrobe where i can keep my shirts, dresses, pants, shorts. They are all in different lengths. How to create one to cater to them? I would like to keep my pjs, bedsheets & pillow covers in cabinets. So wondering what would be the best arrangement to put them all together. Are you able recommend some ways? Thank you
I struggle the most with sweaters! I live in a cold climate so I have a lot of them and they're so bulky when folded but hanging them ruins the shoulders!
Beautiful makeover! I have a big bedroom and big closet in my apartment but struggle to organize my shoes. They are currently thrown into my closet under my clothes. Can you give some tips on shoe org plus creating more space in a regular non walk in closet? Thanks!!! :)
First I would like to say, this channel is one of two channels my partner and I watch together. We love it! I have a VERY similar closet/room attached to our bedroom. My old closet was absolutely perfect. I wish i was joking when I say it took me years to perfect it. When I finally nailed it decided to move about a year after, now I'm starting all over. I wish you could just come to my home and help me too 😭 None of my textile and merchandising training has fully helped to manage my closet.
I love the open shelves 😍 my problem area in my space is the fact that we have slanted/sloped ceilings in the bedrooms and the only walls that are normal height have either the door or the large window so it's an awkward shape. The closet slopes down so there are deep shelves where we store out of season clothes in totes and put a dresser in the easily accessible doorway area. So storage ideas for small awkward spaces that still look pretty but also functional is a problem area.
Oh I wish we were moving. Got plenty of space but also a bunch of build in cabinets in horrible condition. I so want to build a space for my clothes, shoes etc. I've been decluttering and downsizing my wardrobe lately, now I'd like decent space for it. But; when you're renting, taring down cabinets or closets are not popular ;)
You should do a whole video where you design a room only with furniture and home decor pieces bought at a thrift store or various ones. that would be soo cool😊🏠
Tatiana Zalewski yeah like a challenge
Love. Love. Love. This idea. Shop from home...that would be sweet!!!
Gorgeous! You really met her needs and listened to her personal style while also making it a chic and functional space!
Omg I love the pink door!!
I really love this makeover! My only suggestion is that the curtains should be hung a little higher. Curtain rods should be hung 1/3 or 1/2 of the distance from the top of the window frame to the ceiling. In this case, it would also help with the pooling of the curtains on the floor too.
Are you saying it's supposed to be higher?
@@anuugoo yes. :) That way, it makes the window look taller. It also solves the other problem of the curtains dragging on the floor.
And I would also steam the curtains :)

The mirror hack is genius. For a space like this. Functional and adds that element of larger space. Nice one.
Love it. Suprised how the armchair helps tie together the pink and the gold.
Really enjoyed this longer makeover ... pretty but more importantly functional.
The room feels so peaceful. Love your choice of carpet
Love the pink velvet curtains a fantastic way to give her the pink but still have white walls. Also I love the fact that the mirror is frame less. Well done.

Literally rule #1
Another great makeover! Well done!
I LOVE that mirror!! I need one for my bedroom.
Great transformation! I really like the white walls, touches of blush and gold, and citron chair. Would love to have this closet!
FIRST STEP IN A COMPLETE MAKEOVER: get EVERYTHING sponsored. LOLOL
FUFUsparkles this isn’t new! It’s a part of the influencer space!
What a great closet. I'm wondering what she used for a makeup table/area?
Two weeks from now (I think lol) is the follow up for this collab on my channel where Alex and I are doing a VANITY TOUR! stay tuned
Awesome redo! I’d hang a low maintenance live plant at the window and ditch the fake fern.
But I love Sideshow Bob! lol
I would be thrilled with the before closet. I need an extra bedroom lol.
She got rid of a A LOT of clothes! The space looks very pretty, job well done!
It would be cool to organize the clothes by color within the types. Like shirts color ordered, skirts color ordered etc.
I love the idea of open shelving, but how do you keep the dust off of everything?!
Omg I need that sunglasses holder
Absolutely beautiful/ functional 😍
Question! My master walk in closet also houses my hot water heater. 🤦 I rent and just moved in,and also love fashion. I want my closet to get me excited. How do I hide it?
maybe a curtain or a large tapestry? such an awkward place to put the heater lol
You could use those wooden folding wall things people change behind.
Mine has a little heater vent in it. It’s in a weird spot. Can’t do anything with it, it’s a rental.
I find it best to roll them and put them in little box containers
I love how you make clutter go away!! I want town my whole house!!
Where is the lamp from? Love it.
Beautiful makeover! I have a big bedroom and big closet in my apartment but struggle to organize my shoes. They are currently thrown into my closet under my clothes. Can you give some tips on shoe org plus creating more space in a regular non walk in closet? Thanks!!! :)
This makeover is literally my dream come true 🥰
Madeleine Klein same! I want her closet 😻
um same! Still pinching myself ya'll
I wish you could just come to my home and help me too 😭
None of my textile and merchandising training has fully helped to manage my closet.
Great work it looks so nice it is more cohesive. Great choices as usual Alexandra. I want to shop in that closet! 😍
The after looks AMAZING 🙌
I have a similar acrylic organizer for my essential oils. Love all the tips!
love it!! Im filling my new spare bedroom walk in closet as I watch this!!
How beautiful the topic is, congratulations, I wish you many successes, blessings.
This was Epic at always.... I loooove it. I want a closet room.
That turned out really good
