Finished the game earlier on today. It was glorious! The technical hiccups while noticeable at times, never really detracted from such a unique and magical game!
I never thought I'd play another game as beautiful as SOTC. Just finished The last guardian over half hour ago, want to replay SOTC again. The last guardian delivers on an emotional level that most games in the past 9 years have ever come near. A true masterpiece in gaming, character bonding, and a simplicity that shows lazy developer's a thing or two on how a magnificent story can be told.
What makes this game special is the lovely art style, animations, music, the boy and Trico himself. I have never seen such a huge and amazing animal in a game and the levels are so huge and the physics are cool. Bravo team Ico and I hopr PS4 fans enjoy this game. I would love to play it on PC but that won't happen :(
"I would love to play it on PC but that won't happen" It could if a PS4 emulator is ever developed. I hope that happens so we can make it any resolution we want and a steady frame rate. What would be even better is if it can be hacked to run at 60fps someday.
This is one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen in my life, and one of my favorites I have ever played. It is a wonderful and profound game if we understand the story ... this masterpiece has touched my soul in such a way that it still stirs me to this day. It's a game with simple gameplay and the graphics aren't photorealistic, but it doesn't need any of it to be amazing and wonderful as it is. Undoubtedly one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had
Yep, one of the greatest games ever made as far as I'm concerned. Was to be expected all along too.I don't think the buildup to the ending has ever been so INTENSE and SATISFYING in any game ever. I truly TRULY was going nuts to get to the end to figure out what was going to happen and how it was all going to come together and end.
to be honest, the visuals would have been more impressive if it were released as a PS3 title, if only they didn't have so many difficulties during the development.
ATH3X G Hardly groundbreaking, and not what I was talking about. I'm referring to character models, textures, physics, etc. You can run GTA SA at 4k and slap on HDR, won't make it look like a next-gen game.
***** Do you own aHigh end 4k HDR tv, and the physics, textures and character models have some of the most realistic movement I've ever seen. Fucking xbox fans.
+Daddy Keemstar Yeah lets all ignore all the great reviews and the positive community reaction and instead listen to a PC fanboy hating on yet another Console exclusive video game LOL !
Are you fucking kidding me? he didn't even bring up the single digit framerates on ps4, which, in a video analyzing the technnical graphics of a game, is kind of fucking important.
I have the game and I can confirm this, plays great, look good and it's Amazing but has some flaws on the camera and textures, you can see it is a game from Ps3 era but it's still a blast to play.
This Game is a masterpiece! And Trico is the best, loveliest and most adorable AI in any video Game! Everyone with a passion for Games and unique experiences has to play it and by that supporting such Projects!
Damn!!! even a technical review brings me to tears. Thank you to Ueda San and Sony for sharing an incredible piece of art with us. Thank you DF in helping us understand the technical wizardry behind this masterpiece.
The implementation of it's art style is what makes this game so pleasing to look at even today. It's a huge shame that the relationship between Famito Ueda and Sony seemingly seems irrepairable because I would have loved to see this series continue for the lore and Ueda's artistic direction in his art and game design. Might need to play this again at 60 FPS on the PS5.
It's quite shocking in a way, during the 2012 phase. Seeing the team spit apart and stuff must have been really scary for people really excited for the game. I'm just glad it is finally out.
LMAO I remember this same guy saying some witcher 3 textures (one of the best looking games ever made) were bad, And let's be honest, some textures and models in this game looks like shit but he says it's ok and thst it holds up, I can't believe how fanboy this channel can get.
AmericavJapan 1909 No it just looks weird and distracting. Everything else looks fairly realistic, but that kid looks like a crayon. It's bothersome. Literally nobody looks like that.
Man, look at the background at 7:27... E3 2015 had much, MUCH better shadows, shading, better lighting in general. Plus, superior atmospheric effects, and a subtle depth of field... Looks far simpler in the full game...
Yeah, but the final game has much much better draw distance making you able to actually see stuff from far. That's way more important than better shadows imo.
***** Yeah, tradeoffs, give and take. Shame they had to drop all the shadows though, they really added depth to the scenery. Hector Zeroni I know!! OMG! Talking about graphics in the comment section of a vid about graphics tech analysis.. Crazy!
I played 4-player split-screen Golden Eye at like 19 fps back in the day and it didn't matter. But it doesn't mean it'd be fine ever playing something at this framerate again. I wouldn't skip this game for the framerate alone. I'd actually get it for sure if I had a PS4. But I don't remember the last time I had to put up with bad performance for an exclusive, with games like Sunset Overdrive, Forza Horizon 3, Quantum Break and Halo 5 all having a "framerate first" goal.
Sony simply not want to cancel what is arguably the spiritual successor to one of their best games on the PS2, which was Shadow of the Colossus. Joking say, this game is more a PS4 remastered of an unreleased PS3 game rather than a game actually made specifically for the PS4. This game, was originally meant to more or less look and play like the one we have now for the PS3 in 720p, and if they do make it like this in 2011 with 20-30fps 720p, it would've been as impressive as Shadow of the Colossus in terms of dev achievement. Ultimately, as we now know, they didn't make it(the game on PS3 only runs at 1x fps), and had to rely on improved hardware just to finish what they have started.
Seriously of the most beautiful games I have ever played not only visually, but emotionally! I can't wait to beat it a first time so that I can start my second play through! :-D
Fumito Ueda proving that polygons and textures mean nothing. art direction and accepting limitations does. sadly this will be the last amazing looking ps4 title that will scar generations to come. unless Fumito announces more titles.
many people seem to believe that higher polygon counts mean a game looks better. i agree with you though, the art style is much more important. there are ps1 and even snes games that to me look better than many modern games. crono trigger for example is a game that impresses me more visually than ff15. although ff15 is obviously far technologically superior, it just looks so dull and boring to me. it never wowed me the way crono trigger or the ps1 ff games did and still do.
someone explain why the last guardian and upcoming legend of Zelda have a white-filter-like make everything extra white instead of that why no bump up saturation a bit more so things could much more be colourfull and be more enjoyingable
The framedrops arențt an issue on the PS4 Pro. I only caught them a couple of times, and they were during scripted events and brief, so they didn't affect the experience. Maybe there have been some patches in the meantime. I would only complain about the camera and the unpredictability of climbing on Trico, but otherwise, the puzzles are varied and the story is engaging once it gets going.
No way, if shadow and global illumination are missing, with minor physics (like first trailer of Project Trico), maybe can run this at 720p at 15-20 fps on PS3. Even with all this, it would be difficult achieve this performance.
Could you guys do a video on the set up of the ps4 pro to the Panasonic DX750? I bought the tv on your recommendation but just want to get the picture perfect. Cheers.
Can you do Return to Arkham next? They just released a patch tht gives PS4 Pro support, locked Arkham Citys framerate to 30 and said they made a few optimizations and "supposedly" graphical changes (I heard it was the lighting) to the 2 games across all platforms.
AJ Singh There is bro, it goes on automatically, but you can turn it off manually through the PS settings. I just wanted to know which one they preferred.
I think they should have kept the poncho/tabard costume rather than the robed design for the boy. It would have been a good way to have a common theme for the main characters in the three games.
It's because they basically ported the PS3 code to the PS4. The game wasn't originally made for PS4 so it isn't fully optimized for the system. I have no doubt that this game would run at 60 fps with no problem if it had been rebuilt from the ground up for PS4. They could have even given it better textures and other graphical upgrades as well. I think they just wanted to get this game finished as soon as possible after delaying it for so long, and as a result, they rushed the PS4 development.
Should've just been released for the PS3. Graphical fidelity would have made more sense/pissed less people off. Also would have been a great and emotional sendoff for the system.

Of course they improved everything since they devs finally have the technology now.
I kinda get why the game doesn't look "that good" . Because it was meant to be a last gen game . IMO the game still seems to be very good and has sone good art style
Im so glad the game is out and was not canceled
they said if fans were not begging so much for a release this game would be cancelled

The Wii U has a limited color range via HDMI. That probably gives the illusion of the whiteness. The Switch will probably improve upon that.

its such an adorable game
Ps3 could easy perform picture like this in 720p
PriestRipper but not in WiiU
At 15 fps locked maybe.
Espartano 301 Wii U could do it consider the Wii U have a better GPU and more RAM
