- Today I am heading to the Jewish District which is the former Jewish ghetto of Budapest. In fact many of the Jews from here were sent to Concentration camps during WWII . The Dohany Synagogue located here is the Largest Synagogue in Europe and the 2nd largest synagogue in the world. Come along as I walk the streets of this district and visit a second lesser known synagogue from Budapest.

You've found one orthodox and one neolog synagogue already, but actually there are 2 more synagogues around that neighborhood.
1 status quo ante synagogue (Rumbach Sebestyén synagogue) and 1 orthodox synagogue (Vasvári Pál Street Synagogue, inside an apartment building)
And although belong to other district, there is also 1 Chabad-Lubavitch house just across the Dohány Street synagogue.

It was the Tree Of Life and Tony Curtis, the actor, was one of the main funders of it. His parents were both Hungarian.

This Jewish Masterpiece is unbelievable. Truly beautiful. I really enjoyed this walk today in this Jewish section of Budapest. The information from the lady shows how really lucky we all have been that we didn’t have to live thru this. Very beautiful Jewish synagogues for sure. Thanks for the tour my friend.

The day when you saw that people left flowers there had to be for the Holocaust Martyrs and Remembrance Day. It is April 17-18.
Such a sad day, but we need to remember, so not to forget. 😥🌹
Interesting part of that metal tree that each leave has someone’s name inscribed, who died in the Holocaust.

Hi Kerry, thx for this..was in Budapest 2009. My father's family were from the area. Most of them including his mother perished in the camps. It's a beautiful synagogue if you get a chance to see inside. It's funded by Tony Curtis.

..something about that quiet stillness, atmosphere, and grafitti starting at about the 13 min mark gives off somewhat of a time-capsul feel.. but really wish the local governments can try to remove the grafitti.
I could tell that I was in a different part of the city, where most tourists don't go. It almost felt a bit disrespected, with all of the graffiti. Thanks DC.✡️🕊
Very frustrating that so many goofy gravity in that neighborhood. But it’s understandable, because it is not just the Jewish quarter, but all the ruin bars and other drinking establishment are there. I wonder how many was done by the unruly tourists.
I was quite surprised by that myself. It does seem to be a bit of a disrespected part of town.
I think this coming from the very Hipster spirit of the area, the extreme "liberalist" mindset, which also very general between people with jewish background. Also you can't see as many ukrainian flags in whole Budapest, like here, also rainbow flags you can see here. I think the present inhabitants have not issue with the countless graffities, this is part of the anarchist leftist political mindset, they adore there. I living in the same district, but very far from the jewish quarter, we don't have this kind of graffity invasion. But I found this sad either, because this area is a memento, and in the present conservative religious jews also living here, their main school locating in the quarter. So this co-existence with the ultraliberalist rebel hipsters with the orthodox jewish conservatives cannot be easy...
