Thanks for your time and your video. You provided a lot of information to help the home builder 👍🏻. I helped my Dad around 37 years ago add a Master Bedroom and Bathroom to their house and it taught me a lot. Your Video reminded me of that since I’m getting the urge to work on our home. Thank you very much
It's a joy to watch you work. I'm going to be doing a california roof addition soon, but vaulted. The scariest part for me is how everything ties in around the fashia and of course making it water tight. I suppose there are a few approaches I'll have to work with my engineer.
Hahaha- yep, i can't wait to see your smiles when you pick up the 60v circ😂😁 I've been using the 60v DeWalt and the 36v Makita and Love them, the only corded circ i have in the trailer is the 10¼ Milwaukee, and that's gonna change to a Makita with the next deck or timber frame job i get🤪
I just got an estimate to add a master bed and bath to my house as an addition and it was $230k! I just can't imagine it being that much for something this size. Obviously this is a garage, but still I was floored by the price.
That was great. I loved it. I want to do the same for my house, but I was wondering if I'm doing the addition for the garage, what do you think if I go ahead and do a second floor in the garage?
Your work and what you accomplish alone is remarkable. I'm looking to build a 28x40 garage from lumber, what lumber do you recommend to use as ceiling/floor joist to span the walls of the 28 ft distance. Thanks in advance.
Great work, l was thinking why there’s no concrete curb under the bottom plate to prevent the wood from getting water rot from washing down the garage.
That’s exactly why I like working alone now! I had my buddy with me for 15 years and we worked great together, but when he left, all the helpers I tried just effed things up and made me do double work, so I let the last one go and have been basically working alone the last 5 years.

I think I missed something, waiting to see how to criple up the trusses overhang!! Did they have a support in the right spot? Didn't look like engineered trusses to do that??
@MyDIYAdventures The overhang, you would have had to cut back the trusses that supports the existing garage. I need to do the same thing but not sure where to take it back to. I guess to the walls you first put in, but I didn't see a header across that span. Sorry if I'm not making sense. 😔
@MyDIYAdventures okay that's understandable, you didn't need a header I can see, but what's holding the trusses from collapsing? Maybe you cut them at a spot where a vertical support was, but that puts a strain on the rest of the truss system, especially if they are engineered trusses. Which mine are. Sorry to be pest, I could hire a pro but we just put a new roof on in April, knowing I'd have to remove that triangle of shingles later to do this..I'd have to cut the eves out I guess to have a guy look in there. Thanks for your help 👍
I was wondering why the front gable eave or overhang is so small considering how large the eave is on the rest of the house. Is that how it was specified in the plans?
Great Job, I was a framer, built homes in Miami Florida, however now live in North Carolina. Are you available for hire to help build a garage, I am not as talented as you and I can only work on the weekends, Robert
Hey brother, just for next time you do something like that by yourself why don’t you put two 2x6 one on each side to make a saddle, then pick up the opposite side and it will stay in place.
Hey im a young and up and coming carpenter, what formula do you use to find your rafter lengths. I learned in math class to rely on a calculator for quick math and checking work, but what if someone's on a job and the calculator malfunctions how would any measurement be made when to much reliance was on the calculator. About 4 months ago i did a Simular biuld but the Addition on a Manufacture Home was already there the guy that previously biult it put a Flat Roof on the addition with shingles it was the most retarded thing I had ever seen. So I biult a new roof over it almost identical to what you did iwas my first time ever doing a roof like that! However it turned out nice and the lady was Happy with it. I way undercharged on it I charged $3200.00 plus materials.
I am thinking about solo building a 14x15 garage addition, but I am a small guy, not strong like you. Where are you living? Can you come to build my garage?
Can an unskilled woman like myself do it? I don't know, but considering how many times I've paid for substandard quality, i KNOW i could save a lot of time and money if i bought a year or so of training and invested in my OWN abilities.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood ,but against the rulers, against the authorities , against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. strong words but oh so true love all that you do and take the time to show gonna be building a shed in my garden soon and after watching what you achieve on your own I'm kinda embarrassed to make a 14 x 9

I’d probably go to prison if I try this in California on my property😂
I can’t even imagine the hoops you gotta jump through to build out there!
That is more sad than funny.
Why?
@@bramjam5352 democrats
@@bramjam5352im not from the us but judging from different youtubers/videos, california has very strict regulations/building code.
I love watching a guy who knows what he's doing, working alone. Great job.

Compliments on your math skills.
Good work man of God!
You make it look so easy. I know that when I try to do what you did, I would foul it up and need to start over from scratch.

I have built them when the concrete had a curb, but rarely, most contractors around here just don’t do it that way.

2x8 Ridge board, 2x6 Rafters, 2x8 joists? Thanks, Greg
I believe you are correct!
@@MyDIYAdventures Thank you Sir. My rafter run is 10'11-1/4' and I am not sure if a 2x6 rafter will meet code.
At 16” on center it should, but check your local building code.
@@MyDIYAdventures Are yours generally 16 or 24?
Attached garages like this one are 16” because they have to be built to house code. Detached are usually 24” because they’re just accessory buildings.
Screw break. nails bend through the years of the changes. Cool to see this tho
Woah take that back he know what he doing. Not his first rodeo 😂
Are you talking to yourself???
Is that on a new slab with footings? At first I just thought you were building on a driveway but then saw the different concrete color.
Yep, new slab with footings
I was wondering why the front gable eave or overhang is so small considering how large the eave is on the rest of the house. Is that how it was specified in the plans?
It matched the house, big ol’ eave overhang and zero gable overhang…kinda dumb, but not my call!
what is the rough material cost to build... always good to break that down...
Just for the framing, probably $8k give or take
I've always wondered why you don't balloon frame your gable end walls? its a lot less work than having to do all that ladder work after the fact
Stuck in my ways?🤷♂️
Another nice build, what size were your rafters and your ceiling joist.
2x6
Screws are way more convenient but doesn't code require nails for the framing?
Structural screws are allowed, GRK makes some.
Was it necessary to remove the roofing shingles?
I’ve never framed over shingles, that’s a terrible idea
Any idea why there is no Save button on this video? I wanted to add it to a playlist to reference later.
No clue🤷♂️
Will you gusset the ridge beam junction?
Ah, the collar tie does the job?
I gusset the junctions if they fall between rafters

Im not a builder so my question is not a judgement one but isnt there supposed to be a footer under a structure since a driveway is just a plain slab
There is
How much does something like this cost you’d say???
It was probably $40k
Me too
Hey brother, just for next time you do something like that by yourself why don’t you put two 2x6 one on each side to make a saddle, then pick up the opposite side and it will stay in place.
That’s is normally how I do it, I don’t know what I was thinking on this one😂
What size is the headers ?
2x12s
Am I to assume the existing slab has no footings…this passes inspection where you are?
Everything has a footing, as required by code.

The contractor I framed this for charges $50-$60 per square foot for a standalone garage, since this is an addition, it would obviously cost more.
