I truly enjoy it, and you're fantastic. I viewed this video today, and it does not appear like one from six years ago. The style and colour are quite current. 👍😎
Thanks! I appreciate that. I’ve done a few perfume shots on rippling water and other effects, you can see them on my Instagram. Maybe I’ll make a video doing one.
@@connormoriarty Thanks for the response! Your tutorials have inspired me to create product shots and proving it's possible without an expensive set up of lighting equipment etc.
very nice video. do you have a video wehere you show how to composite such a picture for beginner ? where you show every step in photoshop. or maybe you know a good video to learn this. thank you very much
Glad you liked the video! I don’t currently have a video that’s more specific, but that’s a great idea. I’ll keep it in mind. Compositing for beginners is definitely a topic a lot of people could utilize.
Just saw your video for the first time today. very well explained. Thank you. I was wondering, (and perhaps you've done videos on this already, so my apologies if you have), have you ever done or consdered doing this shot in a fish tank so you can do your own water drops instead of using those from the net? if so, can you provide the link for the video? I'd love to see it if you have done one great job explaining ;)
Hi Jacqueline! Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video! I have done the whole fish tank setup countless times, but unfortunately I have not made a video about it. Using a tank to do this is a blast and a ton of fun, but definitely a lot of work. And though I’ve done it tons of times, it’s really just not possible to get an effect like this (unless you sample the splashes and composite them into your photo yourself). What you’re describing definitely feels more “real” and authentic and can look great (I have some photos on my website that are real splash). But to get this high end, commercial look with the perfect splash wrapping around the bottle, it’s easier to do what I did in this video. I think it works well here for a nice Vodka, but say I was shooting a face wash or other beauty product, I would probably go the route of a real splash to drive the authenticity.
I think I would have turned the bottle when photographing the top label so that it said Grey Goose (not ...Goose Grey...). The only thing that fails the realism test for me is the lack of attention to the reflection. The reflection of the bottle is not distorted by the ripples and there is no reflection of the bottom water splash. These additions would have nailed it. Otherwise, a nice final shot.
Vichearoath Ros Thanks! Glad you liked it. The second half of the video is a Photoshop tutorial, but I didn’t go into every detail because the video would be too long. If you have any specific questions let me know
Josh Moverley Hey Josh. Thanks! Sorry but I don’t believe I saved the links after I downloaded them. Check out the copyright free search function on Google.
It's a typical mobile studio stand. Weighted and on wheels at the bottom. Can raise to 10 feet, it has an arm that can move up and around, and a typical 3 axis head. It is not fixed at the top.
I don’t remember exactly where I got these specific splashes. But you can either search for them on popular stock image sites like iStock, or search on Google and use the filters to only show images that are free for commercial use and manipulation. Never use photos unless you’re sure you have the rights to use them. Good luck!
Brandon Taylor I personally use a local distributor of glass and plexiglass for surfaces like this. Local buying builds relationships and often brings discounts. If not, we use ULINE.com or amazon. There are tons of great photography background websites, just do a quick google search.
I'd love to have a better audio to these interesting videos. Try noise reduction like Audacity for MacOSX if you can't get a better sound recording setup.
Brian Spurr Yeah... haha I noticed the same thing right after I uploaded this video. I did exactly what you said, flipped it and messed with the opacity. The final version is on my portfolio :)
Don't mean to be negative Connor! I appreciate your digital skill set. Just have a issue this is NOT photography. This is digital graphics and illustration. Big difference. Your image of the bottle prior to your PS manips was well executed.
J R yeah you’re probably right. I don’t typically do much work like this. Even the shot without the water could have been done without the composite. But it’s fun to use the tools we have at our disposal 👍🏼
Just modern photography, do we realy think the dinosaurs of yesteryear would not have used photoshop if they had access to it. Anyway I'm off to maim myself in my car because real cars have no seatbelts, no airbags, and drum brakes.
Dilliboi Rubirosa Wow, what a great comment. So you’re saying there’s only 1 way to do a photo shoot? That a 24 year old should be on the same level as the industry leader? That everyone should be on his level right off the bat? You’re the toxic side of the artistic community. How about you read all the comments from amateur beginner photographers who I’ve helped with this video? Go ahead, watch Karl Taylor all day. Watching and executing are 2 different stories my friend. Good try though.
I don t want to break your bubble but this is nothing extraordinary. You get very exited quite easly. transparent bottle and bunch of not yours png splashes. Cmon dude

But at least I’m over here getting shit done and making art and getting paid for it. Meanwhile you’re trolling on your computer to feel happy. Fun life I’m sure 👍🏼

Great tutorial. Love the incorporation of the water effects. Any chance you could shoot a perfume pottle and incorporate the rippling water?

Great Video. Many Tanks for this tutorial. You did a great job.

Where did you get or download the splash? All of them. Thanks
I use tons of different sites, don’t remember which specifically for this. Probably iStock and Google
Spitting image of Tom Brady, man!!! Great tutorial anyway!
Jorge Reynal haha you wouldn’t believe how often I get that

Stephen Gaskell totally agree. I noticed the reflection thing a week or so later and fixed it.
Hi !
I saw your video !
It's awesome !
do you have tutorial for what you did on photoshop please ?
Vichearoath Ros Thanks! Glad you liked it. The second half of the video is a Photoshop tutorial, but I didn’t go into every detail because the video would be too long. If you have any specific questions let me know
Connor, do you remember what thickness your acrylic sheet is that you're shooting flash through?
devin nelson it’s a 1/4 inch white plexiglass.
@@connormoriarty Thanks man!
@@connormoriarty One more question: What size have you found to be "large enough" for most stuff you'd use it for? Maybe like 2ftx3ft?
devin nelson yes that size would be good for most things you’ll shoot
Great video Connor! Do you have the link for all the water images you used? Thanks
Josh Moverley Hey Josh. Thanks! Sorry but I don’t believe I saved the links after I downloaded them. Check out the copyright free search function on Google.
Thats one hell of a camera stand. Is that fixed bottom and top too?
It's a typical mobile studio stand. Weighted and on wheels at the bottom. Can raise to 10 feet, it has an arm that can move up and around, and a typical 3 axis head. It is not fixed at the top.
Greetings Conner where did you get your water splash from? Or did you make them yourself?
Lenwood Young You can make them yourself. But for this case I did a wide search on a bunch of free image sites until I found a few splashes that fit.
Interesting angle on doing a fairly difficult shot. Nicely done. (Please pin the lavalier closer for better audio next time :) )
Harvey S thanks! And yeah I know, I wore a horrible shirt for a lav that day and I didn’t realize how bad it was till I was editing.
where we can obtain splash photography?
I don’t remember exactly where I got these specific splashes. David Pahmp agreed. I’m not the best audio guy
Really, give Audacity a try. It sometimes gives a really good result in removing static noise. :)
This is great. One small observation, the splash does not show in the reflection! Maybe you can flip the splash and composite?
'
Brian Spurr Yeah... haha I noticed the same thing right after I uploaded this video. I did exactly what you said, flipped it and messed with the opacity. The final version is on my portfolio :)

Can i have splash layers? 😔
very nice! Final edit image as your Thumbnail could have boosted up your views. I think
Victor Chin Hey Victor. Thank you! And the thumbnail is the final edit.
What's your favorite way to shoot a bottle like this? Thanks for watching!
Love it... I think the only thing I would of done was put the bottom splash in the reflection. Great tutorial otherwise!!!
Brad Budd That’s actually an amazing point. Thanks for noticing! I’ll fix that for my portfolio :) good catch
Connor Moriarty no problem!
Its visible that the water effect is fake, we see it in the bottle reflection : )
Youssef Aboudrar it’s not perfect, but I was just going for the CGI look for the sake of example
Wow i feel like pay to watch this for video really nice video
sby- vlog thanks!
“It’s called a fresnel” hahaha, a little suspicious of a proclaimed photographer if they don’t know the pronunciation is Fruh-nel
