those gradients at 7:50 ..... you blew my mind at that point. I just love product photography and that , that is like the biggest tip or we could say trick I ever learned! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Print gradients on 2 pieces of A2 acetate going from white, to clear, to black, and then you can go out and buy plain A2 sheets of any colour card, place the gradients on them, and you have a gradient in any colour. The acetate prints are relatively inexpensive £4, $5, €4.3, but if you take care of them then you can use them for years, and all you have to do is get a Pantone colour of what you are shooting, go to a paper supplier online, enter that number and they'll have perfectly matching coloured card with you in a couple of day for pennies.
A really nice trick has blown our minds! We used to put only the white boards when shooting a product in light mood. I got to try this out! And yes, I'm with black gradient at the front. Thanks Botvidsson! Can't wait the see the next one! It looks like a massive with the new product coming up.
Martin, I am learning SO much from you. I'm self taught and your videos really help me on my journey to be a product photographer. i really never skip a tutorial for you, i'm a professional photographer and you always amaze me with those techniques. i still can not believe that you only got 9k subs :( YOU ARE A MASTER
Big thanks! Well, 9K subs is probably because I upload not so often, right now I have too much photography work but when things slow down I will be back.
Amazing, and for the second look it is more natural to the eye to have the bright on the side graduating to dark to the front so the sides of the product will be in separation from the bg.and the transition in the front is smooth and not a cutoff straight black line like the first setup. Brilliant...!
Also on the mark 11:39 when you raised the camera and looked down on the product it DID NOT show the reflection that puzzled you which was by the way always there . It only showed when the camera was low shooting horizontally likely reflecting the top edges of the two side gradient cards converging in like V shape, amazing how the reflections play with curved mirror like surfaces, it is as if you are shooting with wide zoom up converging the sky scrapers in..
Wow! Awesome shot. I would love to see a video about to-scale miniature car photography and creation of a backdrop to make it look like a real car. Maybe some flashlight light painting? It would be really cool to see how you handle it.

both the text on the front of the cosmetic product and the thickness of the glass made photography difficult. the diffuser from the dark to the open was a great idea. congratulations!

Thanks again for the tips. I have one question for you. For product photography, and only occasional movement freezing, I thought about buying 2 D2s but I need to complete this with 2 more lights I guess. Would you choose 2 B10s, 2B1Xs, or 2 more D2s? Something else? I thought the 2 B10s would add some mobility to my setup in case I have to shoot products onsite. But I fear this could ruin my freezing motion pictures. What do you think? Tack så mycket!
jerome macadam I would go for 4 D2 500Ws if you're into product/still life photography. They will work perfectly in studio and on site if you have access to electricity/power. They are much heavier than B10s though. You have to bear in mind that to freeze motion with the D2 you can only use low power, so it can be good to have many at the same time to up the power. The B10 I would go for if you shoot portraits on location or outside and need to mix with natural light. Finally, 2 D2s 500Ws are cheaper then 2 B10s 250Ws.
@@botvidsson I understand, thanks for the answer. Even 4 D2s would be better than 2 D2s + 2 B1Xs in your opinion? (What I'm worried about with the D2 is the heat produced by hologene lights).
Hm, hard to say. I never used B1X but sure, it's probably nice to have 2 D2 and 2 B1X with batteries out in the forests :). Yes, if you have the modelling light on the D2s they will get super hot, not a problem for me though. @@jeromemacadam
