It is great to hear more about color. My sister only uses neutrals and says she is terrified to add even one non-neutral color. I am just the opposite, lol. Sometimes I need to reign it in. It might not be a model home, but at least my house is never boring! I have a thing for orange/aqua themes, muted turquoise with terracotta, rust and teal, coral and mint, etc. And always green in the details!

Awesome content, you are so specific. I think about developing color schemes that flatter the homeowner. Like “Color Me Beautiful” in 3D. I love warmer environments but have a Clear Winter complexion with Olive undertones. No designers are talking about the people who live in the space as elements of the design. For example, the contrasting colors in your home flatter your coloring. (I love that for you!). I have read Frank Lloyd Wright would influence how the residents should dress so they would look good in his environments. Ha ha, how about designing color schemes to make the people look good? Thank you, Garrett.

I use tons of color in my home. Anything large, walls, sofas, big tables, are in tints and tones of gray so I can go color bold with the smaller things like pillow covers, throws, and glass. I keep the colors seasonally cohesive, and change things around throughout the year. I love that you’re using the color wheel in this video, it’s such a wonderful tool for understanding color. As always, great video!

Standing ovation here. One of my interior consultants, ASID from U. of Ga, class of 1955, taught me to stick with the colors in my living room rug. In another house it was the foyer wallpaper. For someone with a semi-trained eye, having a curated guide piece helps a lot.

I know good design when I see it but can't always pinpoint what elements can come together when seeing it a store with so many surrounding likable choices. Your lessons avoid bringing home something and wasting time with returns that don't work in the room. I feel more confident in selecting things that are in my home that don't work to put elsewhere (or to send them to someone who's home would welcome them) and bringing home the right choices into the room that will work. A heartfelt thank you for such great content that you share!!

I found this video to be very informative. My overalll color scheme is blue, white and some greens. I also love art glass, crystal and some metal arts. My furniture that is either all wood or partially contains wood, has a darker brown tone. I prefer chrome, copper or stainless for metal finishes/fixtures. I live in Florida, and my house get a lot of natural light throughout. I would say my home has a contemporary/traditional and somewhat timeless esthetic. sincerely one of the best videos i've seen on color! i'm not sure how you popped up in my algorithm, but i'm glad you did! i've binged and subbed!!! plus you're totally adorable!!! x
we moved from a mid-century home to a 100-year-old home and I let my hubs pick the colors. he. picked. grey. so the house is primarily grey and navy, with the loveliest warm honeyed oak that only comes with time. i want to add some *color* into the home, but I don't want to ruin the aesthetic of the grey and navy, because i do find them soothing and peaceful. your video has given me a long list of questions to ask my designer!!!

I also hated the “all white kitchen” trend.
My base throughout my home is white, black, and gold (luster, low shine) with one bold color in each room as follows:
    Dining room: deep green.
Living room: taupe too keep it airy.
    Kitchen: chocolate brown (cabinets).
    Upstairs Loft: blue.

Master Bedroom... undecided 🤷🏻‍♀️ ongoing project

I re-did two bedrooms and closets for my two sons. Both wanted cool color minimalism. Both rooms look different even though the same wall colors, mirrored closet doors and carpeting. In one room, the full size bed looks smaller and in the other room the bed looks larger. While the same square feet, one room is more rectangular and the other is closer to square.

I am not educated in design in any way and I need opinions please! I see color pallets like a pyramid. Each layer represents the amount of that color in the space (more than one color can be in the same layer). SO with that said here is my proposed color palette: (first off for context it's a living room/kitchen/office combo space) so my bottom base layer is a gray spectrum so pretty much everything will be dark or light grays ranging from almost white to dark charcoal. This will be everywhere in the room as what I call the "permanents" so like furniture, wood floor, rugs, kitchen countertop, wall paint, window treatments, etc.) On the next tier i have a dark sapphire/bold navy color and after that a sea green turquoise (hard to perfectly describe in text). Those two tiers will show up in what I call accents "interchangeables" like throw pillow covers, coasters, table decor, blankets, art, books, dining place settings, etc.) [They are so-called because these elements will be temporarily replaced seasonally as i love holiday theming. Nothing more awkward than a totally bright bold spring color palette in the autumn and winter 😬] Then, the top tier is the metallic choice which for me is gold. And as a tiny tippy top tier is every other color because i love florals (both real and printed). Finally not sure where to place this but It's also going to be accented with dragonflies. Think instead of hidden mickeys it's hidden dragonflies. lol Ok. that's it. If you have any opinions or advise about my color palette pyramid please weigh in. I value your opinions and expertise :)

    • @GarrettLeChic
      @GarrettLeChic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I love the way you explain that, in a pyramid! You know I love sapphire anything! The only thing I would say to to be mindful of is gray, you don't want a space that feels too cold, maybe look gray with warmer bases to them!

Since I subscribed Garrett! I have watched a lot of the previous videos as well, they are all so enjoyable and again, another absolutely classic piece of furniture behind you, just makes me rush and put on a pot of tea and prepare the cucumber sandwiches.... LOVE IT.

My color scheme is very similar to yours, in that I love blue. But I like medium contrast, not high contrast. My favorite blue is light. I like sapphire as a pop against the light blue. My kitchen is white with a light blue backsplash and blue on the back walls of my glass-fronted top cabinets. We are building a ranch house, and want a bit more wood features also. I like beige or tan, and maybe touches of green, keeping to a nature theme. We are retiring, so we are going for a more relaxed vibe. I wish you could help me tie it all together! Thanks for your videos. They are helping me a lot.

Look at you! 🤩 Your favorite colors, Sapphire blue & white.
Getting on board with some green. I've never thought about greens in florals. Thank you for opening my eyes to seeing things differently.
Have you ever thought about teaching? I would definitely take a class taught by you. I feel like I've definitely learning things from your videos.

Great explaination of putting color together. I like warm browns with some off white and oranges. I like the two different kinds of metal, I currently have one I will work on that I live in the mountains so earth tones work well and are warm where whites and grey would make it cold.

My place has blues, greens, soft rust, brown, beige, and grey (and hints of soft yellow in a few florals and a couple bees wax candles) and I find if I remove one of those it looks incomplete so I'm personally not sure 3 colours would work for me. This is all in a fairly neutral space with white walls though. Maybe others would perceive it as too busy but I am not? I'll have to try to look at everything from an outsider's perspective maybe.

I’m not sure what mine would be for my room. It’s different shades of whites, creams, wood, & pastel greens & pinks. & there are some patterns as well
The woods are medium brown & blonde. The blonde has some medium brown in it. The metallics are gold & silver. & there’s not a lot of those colors
I do worry sometimes that my room will be too busy. The challenge is that I have limitations because I still live with my parents

Hi Garrett!! You are one of the most talented interior designers on TH-cam! I haven’t came across anyone on here that goes in depth about design as you do. Your professional and you take personal interest with every detail that you deliver to your audience! Garrett you have a talented eye and you make suggestions that we can comprehend and implement into our own individual spaces. My space is very monochromatic and I’ve always been scared to add color because I didn’t know how to select colors that would fit into my monochromatic design. However, this video was really helpful and eased my mind on what colors to bring into my space so that I can achieve contrast which is the look I personally prefer but didn’t know how to achieve until today! Thank you so much for your help!

Thank you! Support like this drives me to create more! I'm so glad you gained some confidence to bring color into your home! And thats what its all about, having the confidence to try something bold or different! Start small, maybe with florals or throw pillows and you can build from there!
