I love this concept “don’t pair something real with something faux.” I had not thought of that, but is so true, and this idea doesn’t denigrate the faux stuff.
Please continue to be honest with us. I rather you tell us the truth than you find out people coming to your home talking behind your back because your home looks a mess.
I spent really good money on my couch pillows, from a designer. They’re all feather. But what I do is I buy different covers to suit my mood or the seasons. Invest in the pillows. Buy new covers.
Window treatments are a must! They finish the room beautifully. There are beautiful choices that don’t cost a small fortune! Go for it, you’ll be amazed at the results! ❤️
Oh Mr. LeChic! You are in no way in your villian era. You save us all from ourselves... Because we are the LeChic family, and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten! Thank you for another glorious, helpful, wonderful video. So grateful you keep doing what you do! 🎉😊
Completely agree with everything Garrett mentioned about living room pillows. The best down fillers I’ve found are sold by Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware. You pay more but it’s worth every penny.
I had to laugh about vertical blinds- my first home had custom fabric vertical blinds which were expensive but to me screamed 1980s so into the garage they went. Editing your decor is probably the most important as nothing screams cheap like an over abundance of cheap stuff scattered around. Excellent video but I did want to say you look great especially loving the hair today. Thanks Garrett! 😊☺️❤️🥰🌴🌴☀️❤️🥰❤️🥰
I totally agree with you about not having something faux next to something real. My husband and I are considering new flooring in the kitchen. He thinks we should go with vinyl wood plank. But, they would butt up against our natural wood floors. Everyone in the family think I’m crazy to have a problem with it. You are the first person to justify my argument. We either match our current wood floor or we do something totally different like porcelain tile. Thank you for voicing this argument so clearly.
Basic drapery panels are easy to sew, an even feed foot is helpful. The simplest is a rod pocket on the top, allow 2.5 -3 times the width as a rough guide. There are also tapes that can be used for several types of pleats. Box pleats are another option that give a tailored look.
So glad you made the point about subway tile, because it IS classic. It might have been overdone lately making it more...basic perhaps, but it's still classic, much the same way a plain gold band is.
In the early 90's my grandmother had custom fabric vertical blinds in some very on trend pale blue and a pink and I remember being so impressed with how cool she was... She wouldn't own them today but she rocked that trend then ❤
Garrett! YES once again i agree with all your advice. And a “void” in a space is just as important as some “thing” being there… probably more important. Ty
I installed custom vertical blinds on a wall of patio windows (3 panes, 3 separate installs). Great way for me to control light and privacy without overwhelming the space, kitchen/family room.
I am not really a fan of blinds, either, but I do have vertical blinds on my slider. It is the entrance and exit door for us to get to the garage, so I needed to stay away from fabric. I chose plastic blinds that are thick with a pattern in them. I also had a beautiful cornice installed that matches the blinds. They do look nice and are functional.
The first thing I did after I moved into my overpriced yet cheaply built spec home was to hire a professional to create custom window treatments with fabulous hardware. To this day I feel like a duchess when I touch the heavy, gorgeous fabrics. The rest of the house is a work in progress… custom lighting fixtures happened last year. Squeeeeee!!!!
Garrett LeChic, you are singing my song on double sided pillows! I've seen so many expensive pillow covers on Etsy and other places where they have a plain, beige canvas back. Ugh, no.
I love reading the comments…. The ideas are over flowing……… oversized rugs in the bathroom good idea….i think I wrote this down from another video ….but I never did it….. doing it now lol 😂thanks for sharing ❤
We have friends that have the most beautiful house I’ve ever been in but not a window treatment to be seen. Not one…no blinds or anything. I never asked them about it. I just see it as a preference.
I have a corner fireplace. The left adjacent wall is three long windows overlooking patio and pool then the right adjacent wall is all built in. Center of built in houses eye level television while seated on the sofa…with book shelves on each side and cabinets above and below television. It’s difficult arranging this room. One corner of my area rug and pad right now is folded under to create an edge against the marble in front of the fireplace….otherwise there’s a worse looking corner pointing right into the middle of the fireplace and overlapping the hardwood floors into the marble around the fireplace. Where do you get rug corners properly cut and the cut seam edge sewn and finished out so it looks customized and not rigged? A smaller rug isn’t the answer because then it leaves about a six foot wide area in front of the windows without a rug and minimizes the look of the space as well as where you can place furniture.
Why don’t you visit a flooring retailer in your area that sells better-to-high quality broadloom and ask about having your choice custom fitted for your space? You can have the edges of the rug bound to finish the look. This way, you can be assured of a perfect fit.
Hi Garrett, such great advice, thank you! When building our house, I chose, for the ensuite used by my daughter and son-in-law when visiting us from Charlotte, a beautiful Skyros marble slab for the vanity counter, half-wall topper and tub deck, with matching 12” x 24” tiles for the walls, all being offered by one of the best stone suppliers in Toronto. I sourced mosaic floor tiles, a chair rail and baseboard in the same Skyros from a retailer in New York. Because it took sooooooo long for our contractor to build our house, the wall tiles sat on their pallet, boxed, for months. When we finally opened the boxes, we discovered the wrong marble had been delivered! Since I had purchased a sample wall tile prior to finalizing my order (I strongly recommend doing this), I was able to verify what I had ordered - and for which I had paid a substantial sum - was not only what had not been provided, but was never available in the first place. My money was refunded, but now I was left with a fabricated counter top, topper and bathtub deck, and floor mosaic and trim tile in Skyros marble, but nothing in Skyros for my walls, not even for my shower stall and tub surround walls. No other stone suppliers in the province had Skyros marble. No other natural stone came close. I was feeling hopeless. One day, my husband and I were wandering through an interior design mall, when we found an outlet of our plumbing supplier. It had a display of Porcelanosa tiles, half price. Amongst them was a 24” x 24” Skyros look-alike. Given that I already had the marble for this bathroom fabricated four different ways - as a slab, mosaic, and two types of trim - the fact that the porcelain was slightly different in texture - slightly matte, not polished like the rest - didn’t seem to matter. It is an excellent match for the marble and completely covers three of the four walls of the room to the cornice moulding. The fourth wall, on which the vanity and toilet (behind a half-wall) are located, is tiled to the height of the vanity blacksplash, just under the mirror and a window, topped with the marble chair rail that runs under the Skyros slab topper on the tiled half-wall. The upper part of wall clad in a beautiful Thibault wallpaper (‘Cordelia”) in the same shades as the marble/tile. It was a desperate play - I agree one should never mix real stone with fake stuff - but it worked. And, it cost one-third the price of the marble! I just checked the original supplier; four years after the fact, my Skyros wall tiles are in stock! I’m tempted…but not crazy!
I agree with you that horizontal blinds look very nice, however, the great thing about vertical blinds is that you never have to clean them, just in the floor area where they meet floor. Whereas the horizontal blinds need a lot of maintenance as dust collects on them horribly so. Horizontals are geat if you have domestic help, but if you dont.... not good. And, if you really think about it, one runs horintallly and the other vertically... same thing.
Thank you Garrett 😀 I have never agreed with anyone as much as you regarding interior design 😊 Thank you for all the work you do to make the world more beautiful 😊
Love your channel!!! ❤ I love curtains. Can easily change the look on your room so quickly! Love rugs with natural materials but had to get rid of them because my dog loves to pee on them. 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I know exactly what you mean bu neighbors having covered windows living in a cave. I did not want to be that neighbor! My husband insists on sleeping in a room with closed blinds. He will not open them during the day. So-I asked him to take the bedroom at the back of the house. Those big window binds are always closed BUT at least they are at the back of the house.
I had to laugh at your reaction to cheap pillow fillers. It was exactly same sound and facial expressions my little grand daughter gave on "nasty bugs"! Very cute.
I recently joined the LeChic family, and I love your honesty. I have a lot of work to do in my home and I appreciate your tips on painting, and decorating.
Super broke, so many of the recommendations are unaffordable, but many ideas you have are ways to work with what you have. Ty! Your window treatment advice came at the perfect time! We have a new picture window and we have always gotten the boring blinds, but after listening , I am going to go with what you have because it looks classier and softer. It would be a shame to unknowingly cheapen this large new window. I’ll change the blinds in this room and other rooms as funds allow. You truly help so many ppl and I’ve never been offended by your honesty, but I sure get excited when I have done something right! Ty Garrett. You are truly a decorating treasure!
Our apartment complex requires Walmart mini blind so the property looks uniform. It's depressing trying to find the right curtains. We have a galley kitchen. I found a runner at ReStore brand new, all my colors, goes end to end in the kitchen. That one I'm excited about.
We have the verticals by Hunter Douglas which have a sheer element to them. The verticals are enclosed in the sheer fabric and they are gorgeous. Very versatile for allowing light in -- or just draw them back completely. They are on our sliding patio doors, and when closed at night look like draperty. Expensive, but we've had them for nearly 20 years. Otherwise, I hate the free-hanging verticals. Cheap and non-functional. There's always one that's hanging crooked and there goes your privacy at night.
I hate blinds too. My new house has them. I have run them up and put curtains in. My go to for beautiful rooms is sheer curtains in between the regular curtains.
Every situation is different. I’d have to see the space, the windows and discuss your tastes before giving my opinion. If you are interested in discussing, it would be my pleasure. Consultations can be booked at: intro.co/garrettlechic
@@GarrettLeChic oh Garrett, I meant to say kitchen accessories, like faucet and knobs, etc. I sent my message too fast before I checked it lol😵💫 ❤️ you!
I buy curtain rod holders that come out far enough that you don’t have to remove the verticals. Then curtains on rings and voila! No need to take ‘em down and no one knows they are there.
I follow a lot of interior design channels on YT. They feel Like looking at a magazine or Tik Tok. Your channel feels like I’m in design school. Great info!
That’s such a compliment! I appreciate it because most people regardless of wealth don’t live in spaces that look like a magazine. Most everyone wants aesthetics combined with comfort and functionality. The idea is to create spaces that are functional and make people happy. I like to share what I have learned over the last decade and by getting my college degree in interior design.😊
Hello 👋 Your villain Era 😂 love it! Solar blind 🤔 thanks for the suggestions I’m going to look into them. Your advice is always on point, I enjoy watching your channel 😊
Rugs. 2023 was the year of upgrading to vintage rugs. HUGE difference. Unpopular opinion, but I’d rather see a smaller genuine rug than a bigger fake (printed/washable) rug. I make my own pillow covers, always double-sided.
I would agree with you. But I’d take it a step further and say any hand knotted rug (vintage or new) beats a machine made rug which generally has zero personality.
Agreed on this point. I’d rather see a person wait and get the right sized rug than go with a smaller rug that really can detract from beautiful design in a space. There are affordable options in fine rugs. You just have to take time and look around.
I live in the hot desert and my pragmatic side wants to get solid wood shutters, R value is king here. But at the same time I want lush fabric curtains to make the space feel luxurious. Can I have both without spending 20k or breaking some design rules?
Thanks for sharing! In order to give intelligent opinions about your specific situation I’d have to see the space and have a discussion with you. I’m glad to assist and welcome you to book a virtual consultation with me at intro.co/garrettlechic
Sometimes I see interior items that are really "stand out", statement pieces. I saw a chair and a pall in a shop today, and I thought they looked awful. You can't have anything else in a room with a violently statement chair, at most a small table and a bookshelf.
Trying to convince my husband to book a consultation whit you. Planning a guide in our favorite rooms and then go to de kitchen thats in big need of help. So curious about what you have to say. More convincing husband and then :)
Hi! I would have to see the space, curtains and get an idea of what you are looking to achieve. I now offer virtual decorating consultations at intro.co/garrettlechic if you’d like to make a booking.
My house is in an HOA in Florida and we have to have white blinds or Florida shutters in white on all the windows. It's to keep all the houses looking neat and even. There is no pink or black or blue allowed. It seems silly put it makes sense.
I understand. It’s just to bad they require blinds. That would never fly in my neighborhood which has a strict HOA, but most of the homes here have custom window treatments that are of course tasteful. I guess it depends. We don’t have problems with homeowners doing weird things.
Hi Garrett, I got to use your phrase at work. Everyone just roared in laughter. I shared your video also. This video is great. Looking around my house to see what I can replace.

Hey villain a very good morning, you have dressed perfect for the role, love that for me😍 I actually hired a designer specialised in window treatments and she has done a beautiful job, and I should admit amongst all the services I hired while doing my house, the 100% no clash job and liked by me was my window treatment designer, oh so good!!! Interesting tip about double sided pillow, good one. Guess what I immediately got up to check my sofa pillows and also the pillows on my swing in the patio😬, thank goodness they are double sided. My bedroom pillows are always double sided but I never thought about the sofa pillows but I guess it’s automatic for me to pick up the double sided pillows hence saved🤪 The whole episode was awesome, however the best tip was “Editing”, very very important, so thanks for bringing it up towards the end of the video. I've been looking for attractive blinds to replace my horizontals, but that won't break the bank. You've given me some great ideas!😀
My pleasure!
People say I am mean...I think it's important to tell people the truth! Like u😊
Of course! I love sharing with everyone what I’ve been formally trained in. I appreciate your support. 😊😊😊
I buy curtain rod holders that come out far enough that you don’t have to remove the verticals. Then curtains on rings and voila! No need to take ‘em down and no one knows they are there.
Just don’t use grommets. Window treatments with grommets looks so cheap because they are.
Thank you for the double-sided pillow comment. Having a different material on the back of a pillow is one of my pet peeves.
👍👍👍
I follow a lot of interior design channels on YT. They feel
Like looking at a magazine or Tik Tok.
I love that desk.
Thank you!
Thanks! Great points!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Garrett 😀 I have always hated those rain head shower fittings 😀 Love my microphone fitting on a rail
No problem 👍
Thanks for the pillow insert suggestion. I'm going to upgrade mine now.
👍👍👍
Hello 👋 Your villain Era 😂 love it! Solar blind 🤔 thanks for the suggestions I’m going to look into them. Your advice is always on point, I enjoy watching your channel 😊
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your regular support. It means allot. 😊😊😊
These tricks will save me cash before selling. Thanks man!
Glad to hear it! I appreciate you supporting the channel.
Rugs. 2023 was the year of upgrading to vintage rugs. HUGE difference. Unpopular opinion, but I’d rather see a smaller genuine rug than a bigger fake (printed/washable) rug. I make my own pillow covers, always double-sided.
Yes, that is an unpopular opinion. I don't want to see a rug that is too small for its purpose, regardless of the fact that it's vintage.

Loved the sass about the subway tile! 🤣 I feel the same. ha ha
🤣🤣🤣
Curb appeal on point - the neighbors will be jealous
Great as always. I'm lovig your "villain" era.
Thanks!🤣🤣🤣
Should've watched this years ago. No more drab doors!
Don’t forget to combine window treatments with protection from bird window strikes!
"I will tell you like it is because I'm in my Villain Era!"😂🖤 I love that for me; I need to be told
🤣🤣🤣
I live in the hot desert and my pragmatic side wants to get solid wood shutters, R value is king here. But at the same time I want lush fabric curtains to make the space feel luxurious. Can I have both without spending 20k or breaking some design rules?
Thanks for sharing! In order to give intelligent opinions about your specific situation I’d have to see the space and have a discussion with you. I’m glad to assist and welcome you to book a virtual consultation with me at intro.co/garrettlechic
Even my wife agrees - time to powerwash everything
Sometimes I see interior items that are really "stand out", statement pieces. I saw a chair and a pall in a shop today, and I thought they looked awful. You can't have anything else in a room with a violently statement chair, at most a small table and a bookshelf.
12:54 I’m dead with laughter! 😜🤣❤️
🤣🤣🤣
I just LOVE your personality.😂
Thanks so much!😊😊😊
Trying to convince my husband to book a consultation whit you. Planning a guide in our favorite rooms and then go to de kitchen thats in big need of help. So curious about what you have to say. More convincing husband and then :)
Awesome! I would love to have a consultation with you. When you are ready to book please go to: intro.co/garrettlechic 😊😊😊
Does using 3 inch screws to hang the curtains make my house look bad?
@@GarrettLeChic Florida and weird go hand and hand!
I lived there growing up lol.

Wouldn’t draperies with a white lining be acceptable? To me, any draperies that lack a lining (and AFAIK the linings are typically white) look cheap.
Hi Garrett, I got to use your phrase at work. Everyone just roared in laughter. I shared your video also.
This video is great. Looking around my house to see what I can replace.
Awesome! Thank you!
Irrelevant, but i just love your hair in this vid
Thanks so much! 😊😊😊
Love it
Hi Garrett, such great advice, thank you!
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing. 😊
Garrett! You are so awesome! Please keep being honest with us and I love the links! I’ll take all the links you will share with us. Also, I heard another design influencer say that grommet curtains look insanely cheap. Is that true? If so, do you have non-grommet curtain suggestions? Thank you! ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I don’t really like grommets either. I prefer pinch pleats with high quality drapery rings. Thanks so much for your support!
@@GarrettLeChicplease do a video on window treatments. I add my request to the other folks asking for that. Also what about tab top panels? Do those look cheap?

Brilliant as always Garrett. If everyone listened to and acted on your advice the world would be a more beautiful place.❤

J’adore ta franchise, je me tords de rire à chaque vidéo 😂 Merci pour tout tes conseils ❤
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying our content.
Hey villain a very good morning, you have dressed perfect for the role, love that for me😍
I actually hired a designer specialised in window treatments and she has done a beautiful job, and I should admit amongst all the services I hired while doing my house, the 100% no clash job and liked by me was my window treatment designer, oh so good!!!
Interesting tip about double sided pillow, good one. Guess what I immediately got up to check my sofa pillows and also the pillows on my swing in the patio😬, thank goodness they are double sided. My bedroom pillows are always double sided but I never thought about the sofa pillows but I guess it’s automatic for me to pick up the double sided pillows hence saved🤪
The whole episode was awesome, however the best tip was “Editing”, very very important, so thanks for bringing it up towards the end of the video.
You have a lovely week ahead, we have a super rainy start of the week but it seems the coming weekend would be warm and right for the beach:)
Stay well, stay cheeky♥️
Thanks so much Ramani! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.
