I got a trd off-road that was fully loaded, double cab long bed. Would’ve got the pro but they don’t make them with a long bed. Put the trd pro grill, skid plate, fog lights, wheels and a carven exhaust on it. Got it OTT tuned. Honestly the perfect truck, put in a little more money but I also got it brand new for $40,000, not $50,000 and it can actually hold things in the bed and sounds good lol. I call it my trd pro long bed edition 😂
This is honestly the best way to do it. Buy a pro if you don’t plan on modifying it and want the best resale. Buy an off-road if you want the best bang for buck and then make it your own and even better than a pro.

I agree with everything you stated except for the transmission. Just moved up from a 2017 TRD Sport to a 2023 TRD Pro and will say the transmission doesn’t hunt nearly as much and the Pro suspension is worlds better. I will say the camera on the 17 was also better and that even sucked. One last thing you forgot is why the hell couldn’t they include an adjustable front seat for the passenger as well? Even with all these minor complaints I still love my new truck as well as the 17 Sport. I wanted to upgrade to the 23 so I could carry all my aftermarket parts over to the new truck just in case they don’t fit the new body style next year.

You're the first person I've seen do an honest review of the Tacoma. It's the worst truck I've ever owned. My 2017 Nissan Frontier is an overall better truck. I spent $43 000 buying the Tacoma and another $20,000 replacing the factory stereo, security systems, remote starters , wheels tires and suspension and it's honestly still not as good of a truck as the Frontier. 100% that's my honest opinion.
20k miles in 5 months? Are you living in your Tacoma 😂? My 2006 Sequoia only has 88k miles on it. I sold my 2008 Tundra not too long ago with 68k miles on it.
Sometimes it feels like it 😂. We have a s2000 with 140k miles. FRS with over 200k. 2nd gen Tacoma with 250k miles. This Tacoma with 20k. And our 2022 GR86 has 6k on it. 🤷♀️ #sorrynotsorry
I have 3 vehicles. A car for commuting to work, the Tundra for Home Depot or when it rains hard outside, and the Sequoia is for long trips in the summer when kids are out of school. That's why the Sequoia and the Tundra have low miles on them. Can't drive them every day, they only get 10-11 mpg, LOL.
i HATED the engine start up from the key and the app, because as soon as i opened the door, it would shut off , which is a theft prevention function, but i agree the key upgrade would have been niiice , prolly would have cost us (the customer) 1k more lol im debating getting the nissan frontier, its only an inch difference in cabin space and it has wiresless apple CarPlay and a strong wireless charging pad that works with cases on it.

You can get more from a 50k GM colorado or canyon than in the Tacoma TRD Pro

Definitely want to. I think there is someone in MN now that can tune them.
@@FRS2K yep. Down in Lakeville. That's where I'm going to get my tune.
Do I want a truck or a sports car?
Both! Lol do you live in an area that you can drive a sportier car year round?
Why did you buy the truck? Almost all you complaints you can see before you even start the engine and drive it. 😮
Right?
Spot on!! I have a 22 off road in lunar rock and I hope you sprayed your trucks bottom with surface shield or Fluid film! I'm from MN also. With the off road I tried to change the color of my truck in the dash at start up but I don't have that option you should have it with the PRO.
@cbayless4294 I didn’t know you could change the color of the truck in the startup. I’m gunna have to look into that! Not a whole lot of customizable options so if there is one I’m stoked lol. Unless the next gen Tacoma blows my mind, we will be holding on to it. I am excited to see the upcoming changes.
@@FRS2K I found that out on RobMotive one of his subs told him how to do it I'll see if I can find it. It had something to do with the headlight switch and radio.
@@FRS2K Found it RobMotive from 2 yrs ago " Toyota Tacoma secret screen to change truck image" be careful when you're in there I think you can change other stuff also that might screw with warranty.
Sounds good 👍 I’ll definitely check it out. Appreciate it!
My sr5 does
You 6”4 that’s over average human being lol.
I hope Toyota will keep these low comfort tech as long as possible
Lol I could have swore a woman would review a Tacoma and complain about the things your complaining about… but thanks you just sold me, I don’t care about all that junk tech blah blah.. I just ordered a manual Trd pro and coming in on the 23rd trading in my 19 Trd off road
Heated steering wheel??? Are you serious????? You have an S2000 that explains a little more
Would you take all of this dislikes and trade them for a truck that’s not reliable?
For the same amount of money, not a chance. I love the truck. I’ve had a 03 4Runner, 03 IS300, 2010 Tacoma, 13 frs and 22 GR86. Other than Honda, there is a reason why I keep buying Toyota. If a brand new sierra Denali was the same price, I would go that route since it would suit my needs better overall but I have zero buyers remorse.
@@FRS2K my point exactly man. I got a Toyota pickup 88 with 22re. Bullet proof, I also just bought a 21 Tacoma. Loving it
I agree with everything you stated except for the transmission.
Glad I don’t have a 2017 then lol. I would really like to get it tuned. Eventually supercharge it even though the dollar to hp ratio isn’t that great. Just want to enjoy the truck that much more. Thanks for the comment!
@@FRS2K I will say one thing I just found out this morning. My 17 had the Falken Wildpeak AT3 Tires with the 4 Runner 17 inch wheels and that set up blows away the stock set up on the 2023 Pro wheels/Tires in the wet slushy snow. Thinking about putting them back on next winter. Glad I kept them. I just have to put new TPMS in them and they will be good to go.
What is the difference between this and the sport
This is for 2020 but the differences are about the same now www.toyotaarlington.com/clp-2020-toyota-tacoma-trd-pro-vs-trd-off-road-vs-trd-sport-palatine-il
Over the years, that stop and have to engage the ignition again causes undue wear and tear…but not as bad as auto start/stop. Wow what a load of garbage infotainment system. All the issues you described are honestly unacceptable for a $60k vehicle.
What a cute little screen!!
It’s Asian…That’s a sensitive subject.
What do you love about the truck?
bitching about the key fob, should have gotten the manual then you just don't even get remote start or push button have to use an actual key. Problem solved. Old school garmen from 15 years ago. . . where you even driving 15 years ago? wouldn't that put you at like 12? your rpm issue, again get the standard transmission like a respectable human.
I think you need the 450 ford I have one 😉 I m 6.3
If it’s a 450 megaraptor than absolutely!
@@FRS2K stop being a 😺🖕🏻
What mount is on top of your screen for phone, etc.?
Bulletpoint mounting solutions. I’ll be uploading a video on the install soon.
Should have waited for the new tacoma lol 😜
What 7.0 liter V8 gets 20 mpg?
Should’ve bought a Jeep rubicon then you wouldn’t have to complain 😅
I do love me a Wrangler Rubicon. Top down doors off and heated steering wheel lol.
Only when it’s in the shop on a regular basis
It’s time to leave toyota and go raptor
I’d love a raptor. It’s convincing the wife to want one too lol
@@FRS2K 2014 Raptor is an electrical fking nightmare. Goes down the road like a trophy truck (I live in Baja) but unreliable AF. 10 miles of offroad to get to town. My 06 Taco was a better more reliable ride...and saved my life. I beams held with 8 rollovers-
good to know
20k miles 5 months ?? damn lmaoo i had my 21 2 years only have 22k miles lmaoo
Yeah lol we rack up the miles pretty quick on all our vehicles.
Dam just bought my 2020 at 17,000 miles. With all the upgrades
Congrats on the 🌮! I want to start upgrading ours but might hold out to see if the next gen will be worth trading up.
Damn, I’ve had mine for 18 months and only have 13k miles on it!
Your truck is gonna rust out
You're the first person I've seen do an honest review of the Tacoma.
Good thing it's just your opinion and not facts. ;)
You spent $20,000 replacing stuff on a truck you hate? Genius.
Damn wtf better said what are you not doing lol, do you not go out as much? My 2015 Tacoma has 75k miles on it
I have 3 vehicles.
"Its thinking about it" 😆 🤣
i HATED the engine start up from the key and the app, because as soon as i opened the door, it would shut off , which is a theft prevention function, but i agree the key upgrade would have been niiice , prolly would have cost us (the customer) 1k more lol im debating getting the nissan frontier, its only an inch difference in cabin space and it has wiresless apple CarPlay and a strong wireless charging pad that works with cases on it.
Yeah the pro4x is a nice truck. The new Canyon AT4 looks super nice too. Still hoping the new Tacoma will be a game changer but that’s not Toyotas strong suit so we will see.
@@FRS2K honestly I’m curious as well but I don’t plan on buying the new iteration , the new remodels usually have issues so maybe 2026 I’ll wait and see if they got the kinks worked out. I wish they’d bring back the quick sand Tan Exterior I really love that color, makes my current Tacoma look clean since the SW is mostly dirt and mountains, lots of dust. I don’t have to clean it as often lol. Blends in
I don’t buy the “theft prevention” excuse with proximity key fobs in 2023. A potential thief isn’t going to have the key fob so then and only then should the ignition kill.
I don't know of another brand 💥 that fans make as many excuses for incredibly outdated tech and cheap plastic at Toyota fan boys 🤣 Like, if there was a little better key fob, somehow it wouldn't be as reliable.
All for more for 50k, boys.
Yess that’s what I’m saying!! and I’m a Tacoma fanboy myself, but even I can see the huge flaws this 50k midsize truck has and all the standard features it lacks compared to its competitors, like I’m looking at the new GM twins and saying damn they knocked it out of the park with those midsize trucks except the pricing. You can get more from a 50k GM colorado or canyon than in the Tacoma TRD Pro
Truth lol we have 2 Tacomas a GR86 and a Scion FRS. I’ll defend and make excuses till I die but I’ll also be the first one to complain about them too 🤷🏻♂️
@@EpticityOG as a GM/ASE Master mechanic/tech, no. I own a 23 TRD off road 4x4 and I bought it and am currently modding it to my liking it instead of anything GM, Ford or Chrysler makes. GM's are money makers for us mechanics since they have such crappy reliability and drivetrains. Don't even get me started on all the electrical issues. I hope you never have any issues once your warranty expires, because honestly, you will and it will cost you an arm and a leg. Better just trade that truck in and get something new again. There is a reason why I'm a GM tech but own Toyota(s), oh, and a Honda. Lmao!
@@erod6468 I drive a 2015 Tacoma lol I don’t drive a GM
@@EpticityOG cool story bro, but the reply I made was in case you do end up going for a GM or other truck. They're just not built to last these days.
Try putting your phone upside down, and probably it will charge
Get rid of it buy a ram and good luck 😅😅😅
I have a 2023 TRD pro i have a list but one thing I hope toyota changes for 2024 is that the tailgate should lock and unlock with fob and dock lock button ..are they really that stupid dah people steal tailgates duh
Yeah it takes someone 30 seconds to take it. I’m glad not more people think of stealing them but a locking tailgate from the factory would be super convenient.
My 2023 Pro has the bed lock linked with the doors so you just use the key fob to lock and unlock the tailgate.
