This is why performance 2-stroke exhausts are so intricately designed and why a lot of development goes into correctly forming the expansion chamber. It was the discovery of power gains achieved through 2-stroke exhaust design which bought the Japanese to the fore of world Motorsports in the 60's and ultimately resulted in premier class racing switching from the older 4-stroke British and European bikes to multi-cylinder two-strokes. Rant over :).
Now this is a combination that makes sense. Keep it light but add the crazy fun power-band of the 2 stroke. In the hands of a 2 stroke rider it would be amazingly awesome fun and fast.
What you need to do is add a 10mm spacer for the carb, run 2 base gaskets, mill the head (same thickness as 1 base gasket) and the large volume cover for the power valve and it wakes up the 99. It makes the port timing the same as the 97 which was a ripper!! The 99 is all midrange and falls on its face for anything top end where 2 strokes are supposed to be. I had a 99 CR250R that was my 1st ever dirtbike. I ended up adding an LA Sleeve 330 kit, and ran a CR500 carb. Back when dirtbike magazine ran a no holds barred contest on who could build a beast. LA sleeve got the 99 CR250 and turned it into a 330. The race it stained 500s at mammoth and this 330 consistantly got the hole shot. I ran out and bought the kit and never looked back. The biggest issue was traction.
For real-world everyday riding a 125cc two-stroke would probably be huge fun without so much of the carnage potential. I'm curious as to how gearing works out though with the significantly smaller rolling diameter of the rear wheel on the Grom, would likely be an absolute rocket to about 100km/h.
I really like these videos. I am happy with my nearly stock Z125, but it is fun to see people take them to the limit. Zero built a Grom with one of their electric motors. I'm looking for the CBR1000 engine in the Grom video.

Technically it would still be street legal .. and covered by insurance..wouldnt pass a safety inspection after the year though... and im guessing the frame wasnt salvaged

I’m 14, My first time riding a 2 stroke apart from a PW50 and PW80 was a goddamn Husqvarna WR360, dad kept telling me to hold it flat when the revs weren’t going higher, I finally held it and discovered 2 strokes are fucking crazy, love it, that thing was reeeeeal torquey tho
Aris Torm considering it’s extremely light weight and claiming 50 BHP I would guess it should hit around 125mph maybe more depending on the gear ratios. I had a much heavier bike making around 37 hp and I could see 110 mph. If this bike had an RG 500 gamma engine it would be a rocket. it may not fit though.
There's no point having that engine in a Honda Grom you cant use the power properly. I reckon a TZR 125 engine or Aprilia Rs 125 engine (if the sprocket can be sorted) would be much better.
