The Hummer was a reverse-engineered pre-war German DKW. The DKW RT-125 came out in the 1930s and was one of the first bikes with loop scavenging. After WW2, ze Germans were basically forced to fork over all ze technology, so pretty much all the allies made copies of the DKW. Harley had the Hummer, BSA made the Bantam, and even the Soviets made one called the MMZ Moskva/Minsk. Harley had a bunch of 2-stroke bikes after that, and pretty much all of them were either developments on the old DKW, or straight-up imports from Aermacchi in Italy.
Harley did make two stroke bikes beginning in 1948 after plans for the DKW RT125 were taken from Germany. Harley's two strokes were sold as entry-level bikes for their off-road, and casual riding audience. These smaller bikes weren't really prevalent until the AMF years when the Rapido, X-90, Sprint, and other models were produced (hence why a lot of two stroke bikes made by Harley the 1970s are still around). They were made to compete with the more affordable import brands such as Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Honda, that were beginning to take a stronger hold in the American motorcycle marketplace.

You have to use your entire body weight and kick it over like a real boy.
Maico makes a 700 Two Stroke . That's some power..
Set one up for super moto and gapped an r6, scary fast bikes by Maico and not to expensive
That chain tension though! lol looking good!
That CVO clutch is toast
“Can you turn my cat into a lawn mower?” 😂
Hey guy you are 40 years late, in the 70's harley sold 2 strokes 250cc...
In the forties Harley sold 125 two strokes. (DKW)
Actually it was only because Harley bought Aermacchi and was selling their motorcycles under Harley brand.
My uncle Bob has a Harley Davidson amf 175 2 stroke
@@isaiahminton2766It's basically rebranded aermacchi sx 175, harley did not design this motorcycle.
@@Dymitr_Nawrocki yeah but it's still a Harley Davidson and there is no arguing about that cause it says it all over it😂
Haha. I remember Being that Kid at 10:09
I’m the kid in the video. Foot isn’t bruised. Kinda surprised.
@@nickmaddox5469 Hi Nick as you know it's all technique . some people never work it out and blame the bike 😀✌
The kid in skate shoes needs more credit
That thing looks like a blast to ride
Honda cbr powered harley?
How about a Honda CBX powered Harley?
@@CaptainYodelstein What a horrible, tragic waste of a CBX motor! But I like the idea.
@@paddy19656 fine, Magna powered?
Harley-Davidson was the first one to put a 2-stroke engine in their motorcycles it was called the Hummer
11:01 That motor mount looks cracked too!
Put the Harley motor into the CR500 frame... That would make for an awesome video.
The freeze frame jokes are great in the beginning. Lol
I wanna see a busa engine in one of these builds
Like putting a RR merlin engine in a fiat 500.
The one Harley that doesn’t leak oil.
You didn’t even get it on the pipe it would have gone a hell of a lot faster if you did
That loose chain is giving me the creeps 😔
Sick idea tho!
How do you call this the first ever 2-stroke Harley when Harley itself actually built two stroke models?
Yea please don’t ever mess with a 2stroke again. You really don’t seem to know crap about them lol
Stop making fun of Harley’s, they’ll be out of business soon enough!
I dunno bud I think their T Shirt division is gonna be hard to kill 😂
I would LOVE to hit up a bikes and coffee spot with that GEM. That's an awesome build.
You just made the Harley Street tracker the baddest, most reliable Harley ever!
“I’m not a two stroke guy” yeah no joke
