- We have a big storm coming this weekend, so before that hits we are doing some cleaning of the chicken coop, and feeding our compost system to get ready for garden season.

I don't know if the kids read these things, but I would like to say to them, Thank you for helping out your parents. I see them helping with the chores and getting things done, and as an older person I can say that I am jealous of you all since all my kids are grown and gone. Their help is invaluable and the stuff they learn will help them throughout their lives. Seeing them grow up over the years is a real joy to watch, and I hope they realize through this thank you to them, that the value of their parents saying Thank You to them is much more real and meaningful than they might currently realize. May God bless you all.

I think it's wonderful how you've developed your compost system to a science! And now you're teaching other homesteaders how to do it. You all have the hardest working chickens I ever saw!! Meg, you fixed Buggie's hair so beautiful! All her gorgeous blonde curls make the perfect messy bun that I'd love to have myself!! She is such a beautiful baby girl!❤
Meg and Ben, I'm a 72 the old great grandma who loves watching your adventures. I love watching as you learn new things. I unfortunately live in town, but I have 8 raised beds and continually build more. I can and freeze my crops, as well as share with family and my church. Keep going, you are fantastic people.
As a NaNa I always have two big bowls of candy sitting on my Hoosier by the kitchen door and the grandkids help themselves ( just like my grandmother use to) so by the time the grandkids were leaving they had a sugar high 🤣🤣 paybacks for my kids.

Compost is almost a wonderful as having running water. Two of the most important things on the homestead.

Reminds me of when I was a child. My mom told me of a time she found me in the middle of the kitchen table, mom asked me what I was doing! I told her just me and the sugar bowl. That was her story! Lol
Reminds me of when I was about Buggie's age, I knew where mom kept the powdered sugar. I'd slip and dip my little finger in and it was so good. I didn't think mama knew what I'd done except I must have had powdered sugar all over my face, so I got caught! My sweet mama never scolded me! And she never changed where she kept the powdered sugar!
Don't know what you use to motivate your kids but there involvement whether shenanigans or productive farm labor is probably the best part of your homestead vlogs. (Don't tell Dad)

Your composting is amazing. Every time I see you go through the process though, I think "Ben, put in two more gates to the run." One on each side of the corner where your outside piles are, opening inward.
Time to scoop finished compost into the ready to use pile... Open the gate and shovel it directly into the right spot. (bottom half of that gate and run wall can be solid for tractor to scoop against.)
Time for new chips in the bottom of the ring... Open that gate and scoop directly from the pile into the ring. No need to fill a wagon, pull it around and dump either way.
You and the boys work hard enough. maybe my idea would streamline the job a bit.
Wow what a great encouragement it is when you all sit down and pray as a family together. I think it would be even more of an encouragement if we could hear those prayers. Just saying Ben God bless you and your family

BTW, Ben, thanks for the composting chickens theorem. It makes good sense. I have an old dog pen, cement base, started building my compost pile 15-20 years ago. Chickens do go into it daily, tons of worms but not red wiggles. It gets milk, yogurt all the way to bones and weeds. I've got to make that softer you have to sort out the peach pits.

I wish I were a vlogging channel sometimes, it seems so fun and easy, but then again, I'm an educator, I teach stuff, that's just how I am and I want people to be able to search for specific answers to their questions. hey Ben, I've seen a few videos where they put a stick with copper wire wrapped around it and stuck in the ground near the vegies etc and the results are amazing, something to do with the magnetism which helps the soil, worth a try I suppose and will cost you nothing

Oh NO! Meg has the dreaded Repetitive Recipe Repertoire??!! Say it isn't so! (lol) Happens to the best of us cooking from scratch every night mamas. Especially when we have that well we need to use that or it is going to go bad situation in the fridge.

I know exactly how your camera feels, once just merrily on your way, then one leg starts to wobble, then another, pretty soon you find yourself on the floor! Getting old is tough, camera, hang in there. Meg says new knees are on the way!

Really like seeing your great family working together. Do you think your neighbors would have green grass clippings for your compost.
I heard that Rabbit Pellets are extremely good for your garden better than Chicken because of salmonella. I am not a farmer or anything I just have heard other homesteaders talk about the best practice they use.
