While the full carbon hood and spoiler are awesome individually, painting them really made them more inclusive with the car overall. Great video as always.
@@vpkbYep, it’s too bad the shipping process damaged the parts. But great that they were able to get it replaced so easily. It’s cheaper for the company to not pay for return shipping and it’s also better for the environment since the company would destroy it upon return anyway.

There are a bunch of companies that make carbon fiber parts and recreations. Most affordable CF parts will be heavier or around the same weight as the take-off aluminum bits unless you splurge on actual race engineered parts.
The two-time drop of the carbon fiber wing was sad and hilarious at the same time. As someone who has purchased tens of thousands of dollars on automotive parts, this is bound to happen to a person, and piss them the f*** off. Great content thanks for showing it.
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been looking for years since I’ve bought my 15 STI for someone who’s done a paint matched hood with exposed carbon vents and the wing exactly like that and only as of recent have I seen the hoods paint matched but not the wing. I’ve been waiting to see it done so I can justify buying them and someone finally did it! I’m fully convinced, buying the hood first next month. Great video, will be following this build! Great job guys! 👍
The reason for the weight of the CF not being significantly lighter than the OEM hood is that the CF is not “full carbon”. Meaning, that your hood still has a layers of other materials like fiber glass, then wrapped with a layer of carbon fiber around it then covered in gel coat. Basically, certain carbon fiber products or more for vanity and not being an actual functional part when it comes to weight reduction. The car came out really nice though overall, it looks awesome!
Pro tip from someone that's worked in the fright industry! Fragile stickers don't stop other boxes being put on top of it when being loaded in a truck. If everyone had a fragile sticker, something still needs to be on the bottom of the pile! Companies should pack their boxes with the assumption that their box will be on the bottom of a big pile.
Build Series Idea: Bring back the SVT swapped Ford and return it back to its former comfort and glory. Many users of City Racer, an online racing game that has been in service in Korea for 20 years, said they would like to see the Subaru WRX STI model released.
When Ben said it was shipped by Pilot Freight I said "No Wonder" in my head. Delt with them before through work and I can their reputation is less than stellar.
I remember Bucky Laseks VA STI had a similar looking wing, wasn’t carbon but it was the OEM white with the center wrapped black to match a wrapped black roof.
I adore how much those little changes managed to round out the cars look! I too am someone who values little tweaks and details, so this has been incredibly satisfying! ^^
It definitely looks interesting, but If somehow you can find carbon door handles, I personally think it would finish the look perfectly. Keep up the good work guys!
Thank you for painting the parts it looks soooo much better lol. Unpainted full carbon body panels always look like the cars been in a wreck and didn't finish getting repaired.
Understand shipping problems, but Ben I still think there is a small dimple dent on the hood on the passenger side. You can see hitting the light at 5:19.
That car looks fucking fantastic. It helps that everything is so clean too but the culmination of parts that work so well together is something that I could only dream of achieving on a vehicle.
Carbon fiber was always intended to be painted. It was just a means of weight savings when it first came into the race scene. The STI is looking sweet, btw! I’m not even a Subaru-guy.
For 02 - 07 STIs there was a Japanese aftermarket company called SYMS that made spoilers and other aftermarket parts and would leave the middle/top bar of the spoiler in carbon or black whilst painting the rest of the wing like you've had your man do here and I agree, it's a much better aesthetic imo. Glad to see you didn't just leave it carbon, I think that's one of the worst aesthetic trends in the automotive community as of late (which I get, painting right is hard/expensive) but I think you've reached an excellent middle ground here!
Ben your STI looks perfect. I to love the OEM + looks. But I'm not going to lie I was yelling at my pc when u dropped the spoiler. You really had me there.
Thorpe has reached that stage where you complete the build to your wildest dreams and then just start looking for any little odds and ends available for the platform. So glad you didn’t just leave it plain carbon, I wanted to do this with carbon parts but I’ve got more expensive, harder to get things to buy first lol
Looks great, I hope that it's just the camera playing tricks on me when it looks like the hood isn't paint matched exactly to the rest of the car (or that it can come closer with a buff). But I like it, although I prefer stock
I know this is just for content, but if I had to guess Ben prefers the car with the white hood and spoiler. Either way, G&G posts a video and I'm tuning in. Edit: Spoke to soon. Tasteful paintjob 👍

Sometimes it is even worse- Its a single layer of CF over an injection plastic part. Most of your cheap chinese parts are almost always just skinned.
I'm just ticked that my '02 WRX has an alu hood but my '13 STi has a steel hood that is noticeably heavy. So FHI went back to aluminum in the VA.
