    Okay, the Death Star laser charging up before it explodes is awesome, something that would have been incredible to see in the movie originally. Gives whole new meaning to "you may fire when ready." It was THAT close.

      +Solarnova i sort of love and hate that part ... while i totally love it since it adds tension ... i hate it because technically, the torpedoes would have destroyed at the reactor at that point ... the superlasers can't even be fired... though ... is it possible that the destruction was truly instantaneous or should it have been like Death Star II?

    • @Solarnova
      @Solarnova 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yeah, it's tough to say... both Alderaan and the first Death Star explode very quickly, I almost wonder if Lucas had the chance would he had given them slow-burning destruction that may prove to be a bit more realistic. I always preferred Death Star II's explosion to the first one.

      There was also a deleted scene in return of the Jedi where Death Star 2 turned towards Endor and it charged the laser, but then lando and wedge blew the reactor up. So, it would be like the laser charged and then disappeared

    I really like the addition of the gas giant Yavin in several shots. It makes sense and emphasises the proximity of the Death Star to its target and just helps with the spatial relationships in the solar system. The enhanced tactical displays are also very cleverly incorporated.

    Now, THAT... would have been wonderful in theater. That would make the audience jump in suspense.

  • @Jackpl
    @Jackpl 10 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    I appreciate the effort, but this missed a few notes for me. First off, everyone seems to forget that the torpedo didn't travel all the way to the reactor. Even back in 1977, the general who gave the briefing called it a "chain reaction" ---the torpedo blew something up which in turn blew something bigger up and so on and so on until that reached the main reactor. The inside of the Death Star tearing itself apart would never allow the super-laser almost getting a shot off.
    But the biggest loss for me was the missing .5 second of seeing Grand Moff Tarkin's ugly skull-face. When George Lucus wrote the novel form of Star Wars, I remember--even after 30+ years--he wrote something like "...just as the minor explosions were rocking the space station." You just knew Tarkin realized that he lost the Emperor's new toy and his own life in that .5 second.
    If you had to expand anywhere, I would love an expansion of that .5 second. Somehow drive home him seeing the Death Star blowing up from the inside and him knowing he failed.

      Hm... you have a point. I love the idea of having the laser almost fire, it adds an extra touch of nail-biting to the scene, but you're right, it IS a little inaccurate.
      Worth noting is that George Lucas didn't write the novel; it was credited to him, but in fact it was ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster. Lucas' own script does hold up the "minor explosions" hypothesis, though; it says "several small flashes appear on the surface" just before the Death Star explodes.

Also it doesnt make sence for him to say that while the laser fires anyways since he is the one firing it.

    I like this version much better, with all the laser points forming to produce the main blast and then the DS exploding.

    I still kinda wish they'd had the Falcon firing her guns when roaring towards the camera out of the sun -- just blazing away with both turrets, so Vader's wingman has something to actually be dodging instead of blindly panicking.

    I can’t believe I only just learned about this now.
    Personally I loved the fixed continuity shots of the trench run, and how you can see all two or three ships when in Vader’s perspective. That always bugged me, but such a simple clean up job makes so much more sense

    The Death Star jumped alone to the Yavin system , it was some escort arround but it did not intervinned in the battle.. also only the fighters directly under Darth Vader's command launched since Tarkin was confident in its invulnerability and did not wanted to waste fighters in 30 misserable rebel fighters that couldnt not make harm..

  • @EnterpriseXI
    @EnterpriseXI ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing I don’t get about this battle is the rebel alliance went into this battle with 30 ships and we see five or six of those ships destroyed, and at the end of the battle, we see three rebel ships minus the millennium falcon return to Yavin 4 so what happened to the other rebel fighters?

    Where was the imperial starfleet when this battle was on and why so few TIE'S launched? There must be thousands of the bleeders docked on the Death Star.

    My only criticism would be that we should still see that half second of Tarkin realizing he has failed, As the Death Star was blowing up internally. And maybe show the laser going down the tube but not all of them forming together, it would still have fired at that point as it was a series of internal explosions. Other than that, I overall enjoyed it.

    • @Doorhenge
      @Doorhenge  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That probably would have made it too busy I guess. I don't think there is any footage of Tarkin like that to use. Just that last shot him with a vague sense of dread in the original.

    @Psamiad1986 Now you need to add air, which will require 8.23 quintillion cubic meters of Nitrogen, and 1.65 quintillion cubic meters of oxygen, for a total delivery cost of $2.81 septillions and $212.46 quintilion
    The total: $15,602,022,489,829,821,422,840,226.94.
    That will only get you the very basic model of Death Star, no options, no GPS, no radio, no leather heated seats etc etc..

    Actually, read the Star Wars book Death Star, it does show that alot of people on the Death Star are just people doing their job, not evil like the Empire is usually portrayed as. I suggest the book, it's a good read.
