Can you imagine being a 10 year old Hayden Christensen in like 1986 or so and watching this on a VHS tape and having no idea that you'd be in the ending scene some day when you're older. Crazy.
If I was him, I'd have wanted to tell George it would have been better to let me perform the scene for real instead of using BTS footage of me just standing there not knowing it's gonna be cut out and tacked on over Sebastian Shaw. I mean, they could totally do that now since Hayden is much closer to Anakin's age at the time of his death.

Better music? I declare. The special version has the better music dear so you better check yourself before I check you. How did you also not know there was an original ending before all the obvious 1990s CGI editions the second ending has in it? How old are you, 10?
Much better than the original ending. It's great to see scenes of people across the galaxy rejoicing after the defeat of the Empire at Endor, and I also like how Sebastian Shaw was included instead of Hayden Christensen like in some other versions. Anakin Skywalker was in his 40s when he died, and it's logical that his force ghost will be around the same age as when he passed. The music is also nicer!
@@ItzAdrian02 the man who died in Luke's arms was anakin skywalker, jedi knight. Vader was already gone by then. Anakin died a jedi, not a sith. He redeemed himself.

If you like it, fine but old man Anakin makes far more sense since he never truly died as Luke mentioned. Don't forget, Lucas did not have this concept until the 2004 releases. That ominous masked figure in black that we first saw at the start of A New Hope has become an angelic being of light, now at peace, redeemed by his son's love.
And this ending is a lot more emotionally impactful now that we have the prequels and we realize that Palpatine is the one who destroyed Anakin’s life, took away his happiness and turned him into an agent of evil.

As it's all just a movie (and now) novel, comic books, games, TV show, etc I just try to relax about it all. Either Sebastian or Hayden being in as Anakin's force ghost is plausible and I don't think either would be unreasonable. In the new canon "Shadow of the Sith" novel Skywalker flashed between his old and new appearances so his appearance to the physical world might have been influenced by the Force. Should have kept this version. Yeah, we all still have a soft spot for the Yub Nub ending, but this is also a good ending song to close out on. But most importantly, it's Sebastian Shaw at the end, not Hayden Christiansen. Feels far more natural, and it's not snubbing his legacy to the series.
You'd think that a rich organization like the Empire could have afforded to supply a flameproof (or at least flame-resistant) suit to its 2nd-in-command officer. Especially since the reason said officer needed the special suit was that he got burned so badly on the volcano planet of episode 3....

Every Star Wars Fan: Every Special Edition Change Is Bad! George- Changes Music In The End Of ROTJ From Yub Nub To Victory Celebration Star Wars Fans: *That Is... Acceptable.*
@DanialProhozdenia Not all of the changes are inherently bad, just the fact that the original versions are not available in any official capacity. That being said, Victory Celebration is probably my personal favorite change.
I still prefer Yub Nub. This is definitely better music over all, but Yub Nub sounds so damn celebratory and conveys the absolute joy these characters feel in finally bringing down the Empire. The added scenes across the galaxy I can take or leave - it's fine, but the original is still great because it focuses in on these people we actually know.
The Most Obvious Thing About The Music at The Victory Celebration is That it’s Actually a Minor Key Version of The First Half of Baga’s Theme (Which is Also The Ending Theme of The 8th Episode of The 1st Season) from The Ewoks Cartoon. Take a Close Listen.
@@hunterolaughlin Victory Celebration Was Created and Recorded in 1997 For The Special Edition of RoTJ. While The Ewoks Cartoon Was Aired on ABC in 1985. “Yub Nub” Was The Original Victory Celebration.
While I've never been a fan of unnecessary changes to art, I can usually accept it if A ) the original version is still available somehow and B ) the changes are sensible and not just made out of paranoia or pandering. That being said, I do like all three versions of the ending. I'm not against force ghost Hayden, it makes sense, but Sebastian Shaw put in a lot of effort and deserves to be seen, so I felt replacing him was unnecessary. This 1997 cut was the first version of the film I saw, as I was 6 when it was released, and I think I like this ending the most. The music the Ewoks play is more emotional than the original version imho, but I also like having Sebastian Shaw make an appearance with his body intact. Hits a good middle ground between the first cut and the last cut.
Also my favorite for having Shaw but also Victory Celebration. I don't mind Hayden tbh it's just nostalgia, but I _really_ do like Victory Celebration a lot more as a piece. I think the silver DVD set a few years later also had this same ending.
I wish the '97 versions were perserved along with every other version. I myself watched the dvd boxset of the 2006 limited editions so the ones I remember are the 2004 version and the GOUT version which was the one I watched the most and the one that I know the best it's "my version" after I discovered what was on the bonus disc, but I know my older cousins that their version was this '97 version and like the original version this too has been lost I feel. It's weird because I like watching the '97 version in context to the 90s even though I'm more of a purist because it's very much a product of it's time. I think my problem is that after The Phantom Menace came out is when they dropped the 'Special Edition" branding and began pretending like this is the way it always was. After the Prequels when more changes were made, they became a weird hodge podge because then it was a movie trilogy from the 70s and 80s which had digital early CGI effects added from the 90s then some inconsistent CGI touch-ups, weird sound mixing, magenta filtering, and prequel era additions in the 2000s. They have been ran through so many filters at this point that they just look weird and inconsistent. Like why was Jabba the only CGI model updated and not Sy Snoodles and the rest of the epanded Max Rebo Band, or the sarlacc or the low resolution Ronto that walks in front of the camera.
Does anyone know if there’s an HD fan restoration of this version of the movie? I think I’d honestly put up with Jedi Rocks just to get what I consider the perfect ending to the Saga
Sebastian Shaw is so much better than Hayden Christensen.

Return of the Jedi was never an ending for me Because there's still much work to do Rebellion needs to restore the Republic And Luke needs to rebuild the Jedi Order
This is probably the best version of the ending. Naboo and Hayden were unnecessary editions. Though I can understand an argument for it since George did paint himself into a corner quite a bit when he made the prequels, considering Vader was supposed to be 45 when he died. And Sebastian Shaw does not look 45 lol. In fact I'd bet that originally the Clone Wars were probably supposed to have taken place at least 10 years earlier than they did in canon. But attaching the end of the CW to the formation of the Empire as well as the births of Luke and Leia into a neat package for the sake of the movie REALLY forced the issue. And now we're just supposed to believe that Obi Wan died in his 50's and Anakin in his 40's :P
This was before the prequels. Back then Anakin was supposed to be older. Heck even when The Phantom Menace came out (and debatably Attack of the Clones), we didn't know how old Anakin was going to be when he turned to Darth Vader. It wasn't until Revenge of the Sith where they decided to make Anakin only 22 when he became Vader, and only 41-45 in the original trilogy. But before that most people thought he was much older in the original trilogy. Like maybe in his late 50s or 60s. Also Obi Wan was supposed to be older as well.
@@YTWarrior100 Nothing. Just the de-aging is weird, especially if you're watching in release order. Also, Hayden did not perform for this scene specifically. They just stuck in footage from somewhere. Since Sebastian knew what he was performing for, the scene is more effective and genuine since he's specifically playing a guy who just returned to the light side and is smiling so proudly at his kids. If you're watching in chronological order, then Hayden works fine, but you know...he should still look a lot happier
And according to the ST this isn’t the real ending, this is just a fake ending, episodes 1-6 were all building up to bring forth a hero to destroy the Sith and save the galaxy and that hero’s name was Rey Skywalker.

That final shot of all of them is so sad to me since you know how things end up for them
In my eyes, the perfect ending.
You'd think that a rich organization like the Empire could have afforded to supply a flameproof (or at least flame-resistant) suit to its 2nd-in-command officer. Especially since the reason said officer needed the special suit was that he got burned so badly on the volcano planet of episode 3....
@@hemiolaguy Good point! But I think the Emporer liked keeping Vader in a state of pain. His suit has been destroyed several times already

Every Star Wars Fan: Every Special Edition Change Is Bad!
George- Changes Music In The End Of ROTJ From Yub Nub To Victory Celebration
Star Wars Fans: *That Is...
Wait? Does this mean Victory Celebration technically existed back in the 80s before the Special Editions?
@@hunterolaughlin Victory Celebration Was Created and Recorded in 1997 For The Special Edition of RoTJ. While The Ewoks Cartoon Was Aired on ABC in 1985. “Yub Nub” Was The Original Victory Celebration.
I love Hayden but he just doesn’t look right in this lol they should have left the original actor in
While I've never been a fan of unnecessary changes to art, I can usually accept it if A ) the original version is still available somehow and B ) the changes are sensible and not just made out of paranoia or pandering.
I remembered that this movie is on Disney plus.
Aaaaaand that is Star Wars to me. That's all.
Also my favorite for having Shaw but also Victory Celebration. I don't mind Hayden tbh it's just nostalgia, but I _really_ do like Victory Celebration a lot more as a piece. I think the silver DVD set a few years later also had this same ending.
2:35 is that Zach king? As wedge
Besides EVERYTHING else, fireworks haven’t really advanced?

TBF when the original trilogy came out, Vader probably supposed to be older than 45.
This is how I imagine it would be when Kathleen Kennedy gets fired. Galaxy rejoice!
This ended the franchise well. Force awakens, last Jedi and rise of skywalker ruined everything.
The fact that Hayden Christensen is now in Return Of The Jedi makes me want to stab my eyeballs out. Tied with "Jedi Rocks".
What's wrong with Hayden Christensen being in the film?
@@YTWarrior100this question shows you are a douche
@@YTWarrior100 Nothing. Just the de-aging is weird, especially if you're watching in release order. Also, Hayden did not perform for this scene specifically. They just stuck in footage from somewhere. Since Sebastian knew what he was performing for, the scene is more effective and genuine since he's specifically playing a guy who just returned to the light side and is smiling so proudly at his kids. If you're watching in chronological order, then Hayden works fine, but you know...he should still look a lot happier
This is exactly how everyone will celebrate if Star Wars ever gets out from Disney and Kathleen Kennedy's thumb.
Sebastian Shaw > Hayden
I never got why they showed Bespin
@OnTheEdgex23 The Empire did establish a presence there by the end of Episode V. They probably stuck around. So the people are happy they fell
