If the ref would have taken a point in any one of those championship rounds, the Rayes Jones fight isnt close, and its funny how Jon couldn't get anything going against his last 3 Light heavyweight title defenses until after he started "rAnGe FiNdInG" his opponents eyes
Jones is a joke. Like, he's clearly insanely talented; that's undeniable. It's just that for a guy who could have easily been the undisputed goat to go out there and eye poke, hunt a DQ, and use peds...it's a goddamned shame. And now he wants a "legacy" fight against Stipe like Miocic is still in his prime. It has nothing to do with legacy or else he'd be trying to fight the opponents who people think would win. He's acting like Jake Paul these days for fucks sake.

On paper it's really not that hard to believe that GSP beat Hendricks. He landed more strikes, significant or otherwise. He also got more takedowns. To me it was definitely rough but he won three of the five rounds. And there's a simple principal when it comes to scoring back then that people might forget. Damage wasn't scored back then at all really. It didn't matter how bloody your opponent's face was made. Michael Bisping's victory over Dan Henderson in their second fight is another good example of this. His face was brutalized, Henderson even commented on it during his post-fight speech, something along the lines of "wish they scored based on how we looked". Once you add that factor in, it becomes pretty explainable how he was able to win. I also will admit the scoring damage on a side note I do believe is beneficial but I believe that strikes should be scored more for the impactfulness of the shot as opposed to the physical damage it causes. Clipping shots can cause cuts, things like headbutts can be missed by judges and officials, so that person gains a disadvantage because they're bleeding even if their opponent didn't properly strike them. Or for fighters that have issues like scar tissue. The Diaz brothers and Darren Elkins are now doomed to lose by decision every time if they let it go to the judges basically lol 🤣
Fun fact: Damage has never been scored. It still isn't in the scoring criteria. It's "effective striking" "effective grappling" "aggression" and "octagon control".
@@viper2kilo519 yes and it's been like that for basically 20 years, they were saying the same things when I was watching the UFC 2 decades ago. However they have flip flopped recently, whether it's official or not I don't know. I don't know if it was to push their guys and try and provide an explanation but during the Yan vs O'Malley event Jon Anik kept talking about damage being part of the scoring criteria now, whether this was just an excuse to try and make Sean look a bit better I don't know. Regardless it's not included in the official rules, the only rule that is even close is "Heavier strikes will be given more weight than number of strikes landed. They're now classifying damage as "effective damage," which means strikes that do more damaged will be weighed more heavily than an overall strike count. Of course, this is still a visual thing, as judges don't have access to in-fight statistics." Now that rule has been around for over a decade. Still it doesn't constitute lacerations to the face yet commentators mention it all the time as being a huge factor I don't get it lol. Think about how many times you've heard them talk about damage recently. But you are correct even the other day when I heard Jon anik going over the rules it was the same old thing that has always popped up damage was never mentioned
