    The small bikes need more lovin'. They might not be much fun on the Interstates but for back country roads or commuting across town they can be ideal.

      XVS650 they are so much fun to cruise around on back country roads. My son has a Suzuki 650 savage. I had my little rebel. We used to tear up the country roads around Cape Girardeau MO. I traded it for a 2004 1200 sportster. My youngest has a 650 enduro. I had my sportster my other son had his savage. We made some good memories. In August of 2017 I fell asleep while driving home from work. Shattered 2 vertebra in my lower back. My motorcycle days are over. I can still walk though. I just can’t handle the bumpiness that goes with riding. I dearly miss our Sunday drives.

      Vehicles are supposed to be means of transportation foremost. I personally think it's dangerous to ride motorcycles on public roads with the intention of having fun. I have a bike and I used to use for commuting, now i have a car and I ride occasionally. Even going slow on a motorcycle is dangerous in traffic

    Please do this rental idea. It would make a killing here in Florida. Year round riding and people learning to ride all the time, but hesitant to buy a bike before they get use to the feel. A 2 day course does not build confidence enough to drop 6k to 12k on a bike and then realize you hate the bike or riding in general. Eagle Rider rents Harley's but at $150 a day. Screw that, I'd rather rent a rebel for $35 to 50 a day and have a blast.

    I love that you're such a fan of this bike. I have this bike and am a girl, like you said it is a comfortable size for me. Mine is a 125cc (I can ride it with only a CBT) it's 1998 and happy to do 60mph on the biggest local road. I like 55mph for longer trips, else it sounds a bit intense! The best thing about it is I've had it since I was 16, I treated it like s**t when I was learning and even when I knew how to take better care of it I was working a lot. It rains here in the UK all the time, but still after all that it hasn't let me down. All it's needed is sprockets, chain, timer adjustments, some leaks fixing, grip glue and welding the exhausts. The usual maintenance. I recommend it too!

    Had a ton of fun on a rebel when the speed limit in Oregon was 55 everywhere. Felt like a perfect bike for those speeds with plenty of power left. Change the gearing and its much better at 70 mph too. Sounds great with the baffles out and jetted. If someone wants a cheap reliable bike, i don't think you can do better than the reb. Got mine for 800 bucks and 2 years later sold it for 900 lol. Can't beat that kind of value!

    I own two rebels. 07 and 09. The seats are comfy at first. Sit on it for more than an hour and you're really sore.
    Aftermarket cushion is a godsend.
    And im 6'0. Bikes and reviews hype low seat heights. But honestly it's really short. And hurts the tops of my hips after awhile because of that position. I wish the seat was 3" higher.
    If they made a 250cc cruiser with a 30" seat height I'd get it.
    If you regear it 15/30 sprockets it's so smooth and runs better on highway. And better gas mileage. You'll get a few extra mph top speed too.
    I wonder if your bike was regeared. I found it vibrates quite A bit with stock sprockets once you get over 25.

    The best part about buying a rebel to learn on, you can run it as long as you want. Then sell it for the same price you paid.

Handy tip, get a +1 sprocket, 15 tooth for the front and you'll be able to cruise 70 all day. It's more comfortable at 55-60 otherwise. I haven't seen a moped in decades. The term is commonly mis-used for scooters; but actual mopeds had bicycle-style pedal crank that was used to start the motor, much like a kickstarter would, on larger bikes. They were usually 50cc and kinda funny-lookin'. Modern scooters, however, are cool.

    Those Rebels are almost bullet proof bikes. Remind me of the SL series from 1970's, those things just go and go even if you are bad at maintaining them. You'll be glad when you graduate up to something bigger, but there will always be the soft spot to ride a rebel again just for kicking around fun.

    • @BerryTheBnnuy
      @BerryTheBnnuy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't know about bullet proof. Nearly every single Rebel prior to the 2017 redesign eventually has its cylinder head crack. It's always the same crack in the same place, and it's caused by having an extremely rigid mount to the frame. Bumps and jostles eventually cause a microscopic fracture which grows over time.
      When it happens, people tend to just replace the cylinder head, and then the crack happens again later down the road. Most people also tend to not own a Rebel for long enough to notice it, but when you're a mechanic like me, you see it all the damn time.
      I usually send t he head off to have it welded back with reinforcement, and I also drill out the mounting hole a bit and put in a rubber grommet so it won't happen again.

    My first Rebel 250 was a brand new one in 1985. Brand new first year model. I had already been riding for 10 years and had a Yamaha XS850 Special. But the little Rebel just blew me away with its looks, and it was dirt cheap. So I bought one. Today I am 64, and on my 4th Honda Rebel 250, a bought new 2016. Last year model. I've also had 2 used ones. I've put around 80,000 miles on all of them together, never had a problem. Most of that was at full throttle on the highway. Have ridden coast to coast on Rebel 250s. Their only weak point is tube type tires. I was once stranded for 3 days by a flat tube type tire. I could have fixed it and been on my way in a few minutes if it had been a tubeless tire.

    Where I live in the land of 80mph speed limits and 6000+ ft elevation the Rebel is downright scary on the highway. A co-worker of mine has one of those 250 Chinese ADV bikes and he can barely maintain 75mph and it is flat out screaming to do it. They did make a Rebel 400 for a few years in the 80s, same small bike feel but with way more power. Of course now they have the new Rebel 500 which will easily do 80.

    I have ridden the Rebel all over the country on the freeways, topped out full throttle, 12 hours a day, and I'm 6' 240. Didn't faze the Rebel. Remember the Rebel's engine dates back to the '70s, to the 185 TwinStar. It is seriously overbuilt, unlike today's crappy made in China bikes. The Rebel 250 should easily outlast the new 300, and by a long shot.

      I have a '79 Honda CX500. Nice old bike, bulletproof engine. I found an article written by Honda corporation in '78, explaining the development and testing of the new engine for the CX500. They stated that the engine "ran reliably to 11,500rpm, and valve float did not occur until 12,300rpm". Then they stated, "Therefore, red line will be established at 9600rpm as a safety buffer for the rider; however short bursts of acceleration to 10,500rpm are acceptable". So I think this means that yes, old Honda engines were certainly over-engineered.

My wife let me talk her into the riding course and a 2020 Iron 883. But my experience tells me she needs lots more saddle time before she is BigTwinning comfortably. Even though the 883 isn't huge by any means, it can still gittyup. So I bought her a 2016 Honda Rebel to fine tune the mechanics and get comfortable first. I, myself, haven't pushed past 50 on the Rebel yet. lol Whats it got, about 29 horses ? Fun Video !

    Honda built a bike that was built to cruise say 60 mph all day last for over 100000 miles and they nailed it and you cannot compare it to a 1000cc bike and it is a comfortable bike not heavy and most 250 bikes are great but most likely break down and wear out and if you change and use good oil it will not let you down and mine people though it was a big thundering hardly till they saw it but best 250 every built

    Currently own a Suzuki S40 and a Bajaj avenger 220. The second one being my daily ride because it gives me 364 miles per tank, consumption is about 98 mpg my tank is 3.69 gal or 42 kml in a 14L tank which is about 584 km per tank, freaking amazing cruiser bike for the city.
    I'm surprised you guys don't deal with the Bajaj brand in the US, quality is good and the Avenger models are aesthetically pleasing and more powerful than the rebel.
    The brand is currently in a new deal with Triumph in order to produce lower displacement bikes for 2022.

    Had one of these and loved it! I bought it as a reentry bike to get used to riding again after a couple of decades of being pussy whipped into not buying i bike. She always did say, "You get a bike, you get a divorce!" I should never have waited so long! I traded up the Rebel for a vz800 cc Suzuki marauder. The second divorce caused me to have to sell it 2 years ago. That bike wasn't the fastest or the most comfortable and it didn't like starting cold but it was all mine and if i was out riding Saturday and decided on a whim to just keep going, which i did more than once, there was no telling what beach or desert or mountain i might end up at. I miss my California. Looking to get a new little bike again. The shop down the road has a deal on a little Kawasaki 250 2 cylinder. Slightly used 2014 with 15k miles on it and 60% below the cost of a new unit. It's been at that shop for awhile so i wonder what about it is too good to be true? It starts easily enough. How bad could it be?

    It’s a fact that smaller displacement bikes are a blast to drive. Look at the Kemco Spade 150cc. They can’t build them fast enough. Bigger bikes are great for long hauls but a smaller bike is easier all around. Insurance cheaper too.

    I started on a 750 and I pretty much immediately starting riding on the highways since that’s mainly what I have in my area. And I gotta say if I’m not doing like 90 I’m screwed lol. I wouldn’t take my girlfriends rebel in those roads. But riding the back roads it’s fun as hell to lean that bike and scrape the pegs in the corners

    I had a 2002 rebel. I traded it for an 06 sportster 1200. I love my Harley Davidson. The little rebel will always have a special place in my heart though. I did ride it on the interstate a few times. It just always seemed like it needed one more gear though. It topped out at 74 mph. I paid 800 dollars for it. I got 1500 for the trade in on my 1200 sportster. I’d love to find an old 450 rebel.

    Sean, love your videos bro. I'm looking to get my motorcycle license this spring and possibly buying one of these small 250's to cruise around town on and kick back and forth to work. I have a prime opportunity to buy a sweet low mileage 2004 Rebel or a really nice looking 2007 Suzuki Marauder GZ250 (also very low miles) both priced at $1200 dollars each. I'm struggling to choose which one I should go after here because they are very comparable to each other. Can you tell me why I should go for the Rebel over the GZ250 or vice versa?

  • @pauld.b7129
    @pauld.b7129 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    +1 sprocket on the front and the rebel becomes a way better bike. Let's you cruise at 65 at the same rpm as 55 is stock and 70 is right there easy. Also makes first gear a good bit taller which is handy. It's geared super short so it's hard to stall and lug for beginners. The more you know 🌈

  • @roykinder4134
    @roykinder4134 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK....This is a great first bike or starter bike. Do not take this bike on the highway for a couple of reasons. First, if you get it up to around 65 mph it's just about wound out, nothing left if you need it. Second, highway speeds and other vehicles (trucks) will move you around a lot. With that being said it's a great little bike for smaller people and women for around town.

    I love your videos man. But the way you said “im 6 2, is this something a man can drive?” Height doesn’t have anything to do with being a man. Does that height help you raise children and be a good father/ husband? I’ve seen guys faint in basic training just standing.. and both were tall guys. I’m 5 8 and want to buy a rebel. But guys like you make me NOT want to, just because of this mentality. Oh it’s a rebel or sportster.

      @jasonhurlburt6757 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cesartapia610 I weighed about 270 lbs when I had my rebel and I had difficulty getting on the freeway. Once I was on it was okay, top speed was about 65. Definitely not ideal but it works. Would recommend something like a Honda shadow, pretty much priced the same online.

    • @cesartapia610
      @cesartapia610 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonhurlburt6757 Yeah, I hear you, man. Isn't the Honda Shadow a lot bigger though? I don't want a heavy bike that struggles to maneuver at lower speeds. All the bikes at the MSF course we're pretty small, so I'm not even sure I could handle a Shadow yet. Thanks.

    • @jasonhurlburt6757
      @jasonhurlburt6757 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cesartapia610 the shadow is definitely a bit harder to maneuver for a new rider, I had my rebel for about 3 months and rode nonstop before buying the shadow. Then sold the rebel fairly quickly and just used that money for the Shadow. Rebel's a beginner bike so they're always being bought and sold quickly.
