I pretty much cry every time. I'm 58, disabled, from Spfld, Mass! Great cover, best I've ever heard. Evanescence's cover of Goin' to California is close but not out of nature for Ev. This sound is a little out of nature for Disturbed. Draiman's amazing voice aside, Disturbed NOT usually this accessible to me! Multiple times seen: YES, QUEEN, DOOBIES, Tull, AIC (yes grunge was fantastic), Dream Theater, A7X, Halestorm, Evanescence! But unfortunately not Disturbed! or S+G (too early)! Great cover!

My husband loved this version of the song, he loved the original but absolutely loved this one. I had it played at his funeral along with Garth Brooks The Dance when he died suddenly at age 46 in 2018. I still cry when I hear either song but they are good tears, good memories of him and our 27 years together.

The first time I heard The Sound of Silence by Disturbed I was affected for at least an hour. In my mind I imagine being one of the citizens of Germany during the Nazi regime during the time when their music was being stolen and people were literally being "silenced." I was shaking with rage and pain: the unfairness of it all, the need to speak up against injustice in all it's forms. This song brings tears to my eyes and electricity to my spine every time I hear it. I absolutely can't stop listening to Draiman's powerful, magical voice.
To me it gives a voice to those who were and still are silenced by oppression and tyranny.

When this song came out, it really changed how I felt about it. The power and darkness they were able to put into it, completely changed the lyrical meaning for me. Being a Marine combat vet, I perceive the lyrics differently than most. "Hello darkness my old friend"... "In restless dreams I walked alone"... Each person can percieve lyrics differently. This is a very emotional song for many people. Thanks for the reaction!

I was scrolling the comments to figure out the original intent cause every time I hear this version it speaks more to me. I tried listening to the original performers version to see if I could grasp the intent. I value your input cause it does seem open to interpretation to me & seems to have so many levels. Now I'm not going to question anymore & just allow it to capture me up & speak to me rather than being stuck to one idea or original intent of the song. I pray as you listen it heals & helps you to a place of comfort & more. Thank you.

"People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening" - how could Simon envision the smartphone age so accurately 50 years ago? People texting without speaking, people watching without listening. Does she know the reference to "neon gods? Connecting with your daughter at 13 is one of the biggest challenges a parent can face. I found the love of music was one way to connection with my daughter at that age. I've always had music playing in the background her whole life so she grew up listening to all the great music of the 60's and 70's. It's the diversity of music genres that I believe helps a young person develop as sense of appreciation for all music, jazz, rock, metal, classical, modern, progressive, prog, bluegrass, certain country. But I did find that at 13, she would push back or reject more out of a sense of rebellion then because she didn't like something I wanted her to hear. But when she discovered Bowie's early singles, she was hooked, Rebel Rebel, Blue Jean, The Jean Genie, Suffragette City. She wore out my albums.

I believe when you pause a song, you take so much out of it! It robs you of the building feeling to what could be a moving crescendo or hairs on your arm raising experience if you pause it just at that pivotal moment! Dad! I could tell in your facial expression throughout the whole song that you really enjoy this version/song!! Its great how you use music to connect with your kids. im learning so much from you sir, thank you. i can tell your daughter is paying more attention to the "visual" of the video rather than the music or the artistry of it. she did not connect so much to the "music" than she did to the visual. perhaps use lyric videos? she seems to try to connect to what she is seeing rather than what she is hearing/feeling. what you are doing is fantastic, and important. thank you

After seeing Diturbed perform this song on Conan, Paul Simon, the creator of the original, reached out and PRAISED the band on doing their song justice. That alone is the greatest reward any band can receive when doing a cover that is so old and beloved by multiple generations.

This is easily one of the best covers of a song ever made! Right beside Careless Whisper by Seether and Zombie by Bad Wolves. The build up in this song from soft to powerful is amazing. Your daughter looked like she got a bit emotional toward the end (which who could blame her). Beautifully haunting song!

The "hello darkness my old friend" I would think made her laugh because its also a popular meme that is usually with something funny. This is my favorite song because of the in depth meaning that lies behind it as in sorta a premonition that Simon and Garfunkel saw of our culture and the direction we were heading and how the "neon light" split us down the middle as a nation. There is so many ways one can interpret this song and what it means and I hope you explain to her about the importance of not getting to caught up in technology and not being antisocial and being kind to one another. Great reaction, quality of the video is fantastic. Well done. Cheers.

I think what you're doing is fantastic. Even if the channel never grows, the interaction and sharing between a dad and is daughter, who is at the age where large adult questions really take hold is so priceless. So many people fail to interact with the kids in meaningful, mutually learning ways. Has she ever heard Pat Benatar? Hell is for Children with the "sweet Melissa" Live intro is very appropriate right now with what the US is doing to migrant children. Hat's off.

true that, everyone thinks it's a reference to depression, but Paul liked the acoustics in the bathroom and took his guitar there to write, and in this particular instance to develop an idea that had remained from a dream. If i understand correctly the rest is a warning about Television (the neon god) but can equally, if not even more so, be applied to the modern technology (internet and social media) of more recent times. Great to see a father and daughter doing something like this together, thumbs up from me :)
