  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2015 Chevy Colorado Z71 is Chevy's most off-road worthy mid-sized pickup truck. In this Rocky Mountain Off-Road review Andre get the truck snowy muddy and wet to see if it lives up to the Z71 package advertising.

      Andrey Smirnov I really wasn't. For years GM products suffered from issues due to quality control. That is however a separate issue from engineering and GM is still an amazing engineering powerhouse. Now that they've improved in quality they are back at the top of their game. I liked the way that you plowed trough the dirt with it! There's no grass under your feet!

    I love my Colorado. Took the chin spoiler off and better tires. Now it's better off road and has a comfortable ride everywhere. $48,000 non Z71 with almost 140000 miles now and no brake downs. The brake pedal has always felt too soft. But I think a braded steel brake line kit would take care of it.

  • @marknarretto1514

    How often are you off road where that chin spoiler will be hitting rocks ? Colorado's and Canyons are trucks for the weekend warriors and they are perfect for that. I like to see a integrated adjustable tie down system for the bed.

  • @SaskatchewanBadAss

    you should do the base 4x4 Colorado as a comparison. z71 offroad trim is nice but pricy. would be cool to see how the barebones extended cab 4x4 with no other options would stack up. that's what ill be buying up here in Canada where I live, if you get the base 4x4 extended cab you get a 4cylinder 4x4 for 30k if you get no options which I prefer, improves the longevity of the vehicle with a lot less to go wrong and break over time. besides most of the time its cheaper to buy aftermarket accessories than the fancy trim packages because that's where most auto ccompanies make a killing is all the options which you could have got somewhere else.

    I am in need of a new truck. I killed my 09 f150 I am wondering if I could live out of a midsize truck. Some of the used prices and miles are better than full-size. And does it have to be a Tacoma which seems to be priced like they are made of gold

    36k is a lot for the small truck.. But if you compare it to the Tacoma or frontier it really mops the floor. Economically, in engine power, and capability. I'm not the biggest "mini-truck" fan, but this is a lot more practical. Plus after haggling you could probably get a fully loaded one for 30k and be happy, instead of 28k and settle for a lesser truck. Unless you are a fan of other brands and decided to wait for the competition to release new trucks and compare then.

    I don't really think most people would go out to do serious off-roading in this truck as is, it really is more of a commuter and the people who are serious about off-roading will most likely get a mild lift kit I think.
    I do understand that the splitter is low but it's not that big of a deal in my opinion.

    I own a 2015 colorado z71 and I had to remove the chin spoiler. And yes I was cursing the whole time. Thirteen screws in from the top down so you can't get at the heads, save for the three in the middle. Easy to remove my a@#. But it looks better with out it, and I haven't noticed any real decrease in fuel economy. Still getting in between 17 and 21 combined, depending on where I go and how loaded down I am. I have a cargo master 3 ladder rack and 28' extention ladder on the truck full time and I have put over 4,000 miles on it sence mid February 2015.

      gargilbert none but there were two screws that had to be turned so they went up. They held the bumper cover at those two points but didn't attach to the chin spoiler. They were a real pain. But rake your time and it will be just fine.

    Hi I had a question I'm looking at a 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71 I'm told that the Z71 can in a two-wheel drive when I look inside the truck I can't find any knobs shifters or buttons to put it in 4-wheel drive I looked underneath the truck and it has a transfer case but I can't find no knobs of shifters mind you this is a a Ford dealership

    • @Daywalker_27
      @Daywalker_27 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Mata For some odd reason GM has decided to hide 4x4 switch behind the steering wheel on the left side, right next to the light switch. You could actually confuse one for the other. One of the vary few things I don't like about this truck. I think just below the gear shifter would have been a much better spot.

  • @blankerism

    around 36K for a fully loaded Z71 4x4, impressive. Toyota just released their pricing and more detailed specs on the Tacoma. Theres top out at 38K. The reviewer on this Fast Lane Truck video notes that Colorado is priced higher that both Tacoma and Frontier, that is reflected on the older models. the Colorado in actuality is priced just under the new 2016 Tacoma. Not only that but the Colorado comes with more standard equipment and available options than the old generation 2015 Tacoma

    Excellent review. I think that we need more of the smaller or midsize trucks instead of these 80 inch + (width) monsters that are hard as $%^* to park anywhere. And then once they are parked, just try opening the doors. I am interested in seeing what Toyota comes up with for 2016. But I would not buy ANY first year model of a brand-new car or truck. That was something that my father taught me and I think that he was right about that.

      +Gabby Romero z71 on the colorado is more of an appearance package than an offroad package now. it gets few extra goodies, tuned twin tubed shocks, g80 auto locking rear dif, more offroady tires, a transfer case skid plate for the 4x4 models, and hill decent control. Yours would not do what this one did

      Gabby Romero i think its like 200 pounds or somthing? my max tow is 7000 pounds personally i wouldnt want to put anything more than 5000 behind it.
      I dont have a brake controller and while the truck would move well over 7000 im sure, i dont think i could get it stopped, which in my opinion is more important.
      You also get better mileage which is a plus :)

    Love the truck but not a fan of the engine GM should have used the 4L v6 a much more reliable engine than the 3.6L but if you do get the 3.6l use synthetic oil that performs better in heat and change the oil every 3,000 not 5,000 to save the timing chains from stretching a very common issue with these engines

    The thing is you can pick up a similarly equipped Frontier for less than $30,000 out the door. Nissan is dropping the "actual" sale point price on those quite a lot. Chevy having the newer truck they are less inclined to drop the price much lower than MSRP. Heck, my local dealership has these up as high as $40,000. I just can't justify that much extra money spent when the comparable Nissan will easily cost you anywhere from three to six thousand dollars less. At least for mr, in my area of the country, the Colorado doesnt seem like a good buy price per performance given the competition.

    • @bighands69

      American cars are a better option in America. They have the support networks and driver communities that make sense.
      If you lived in Europe then a Nissan would make sense as they are reasonably priced and reliable.
      There are very few options in Europe. A good off road SUV would cost about 50k and gas/fuel would cost about 3 times more. Insurance is insane in Europe as is tax.
      Most people in Europe go for 2 liter Toyota Hilux and 2 liter Nissan Navara's and that is the only cheap options that come in at 30k plus.

      Agumon5 No offense, but the Frontier is nowhere near as nice as a Colorado. They're not even in the same league. I've driven both and can tell you that the Frontier is definitely a step back. The difference is night and day. I think Nissan knows that and they're frantically pushing a newer redesign out asap.

    There is no styling risk it is the Isuzu D max with a GM engine
    they should of went with the Isuzu twin turbo engine though
    The main problem is the price .
    you can buy a nice 1/2 ton for that price today
    As much as these guys want to push it I can't see people wanting this over a 1/2 ton pickup

    • @auxillianwarghost5123

      David Stanley 1/2 ton Silverado's with the same trim level are about $7000 more than the Colorado. Plus, those things are not easy to drive in urban areas, and parking can be a bitch. I think the Colorado is the perfect size. I just wish Gm would start offering some rebates. The dealers aren't coming down much off the MSRP yet.

    • @auxillianwarghost5123
      @auxillianwarghost5123 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BAU Full-sized trucks are ridiculously large and expensive. The Colorado is about $7000 cheaper for the same trim level and options. It's a little smaller, but not a "small truck" at all. It's about 90% the size of a full-size, but much easier to park and maneuver. Plus, the slightly smaller footprint would make it ideal for hunting and offroading since roads are usually more narrow when doing those things.
      Plus, the fuel economy is slightly better.

    This is a nice looking truck but new Tacoma sales this year have still outnumbered new Colorado/Canyon sales 2 to 1, and this is with the "outdated" Tacoma design vs. the new gen Colorado/Canyon. I guess reputation and brand loyalty goes a long way in swaying (or not swaying) potential buyers. I'm surprised that there hasn't been a more prominent turning of the tables yet. I've only seen a handful of these things driving around and I live in an area where midsize trucks are very popular. We'll see if the trend changes or continues, but with the new 2016 Tacoma coming out in the fall it's not looking good for Colorado/Canyon sales. If the sales ratio is 2 to 1 now, it's likely only to get worse once the new Tacoma is released. Looks like Toyota's strategy of waiting until after the release of the new Colorado/Canyon to unveil the new Tacoma is not as much of a blunder as most people thought it was 6 months ago. Appears (for now anyway) that Toyota continues to have the upper hand.

    • @auxillianwarghost5123
      @auxillianwarghost5123 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cashmab That's because Tacos are available. Colorado's are still commanding MSRP, very few discounts are offered for them because their average time spent on dealer lots is only 12 days. Since so many people want them, GM is having a hard time even making enough. That means fewer rebates and incentives, and that means it's easier for someone to go next door and grab a Taco with 5 grand slashed off MSRP. Even though the Taco is the lesser vehicle.

      +Auxillian Warghost exactly what the dealer said to me yesterday. it was memorial day weekend sales and I bought the z71 4 door for about $38,000 550 a month. but when I was getting the truck they had sent it back for a shuttering problem, it was fixed. also great car I test drove the Tacoma TRD and it's so rugged I can't see my self driving every day. The steering was not responsive and the inside was outdated. The chevy by far was a way better ride smooth like a cadillac. And guys this car is very tough looking got alot of looks driving home with over chevy owners giving me the peace sighn haha reminds me of Jeep owners. one thing I dislike is when you driving at 60 on the freeway it takes forever to accelerate to around 75 80. But it makes up for it because of the pull it has from first to second gears. and you have to pay for a security system wtf.

    • @auxillianwarghost5123
      @auxillianwarghost5123 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't have to pay for a security system, it's built into the truck. Unless it's something that they installed extra. That laggy pull above 60 is fixed by a chip tune. It really wakes the truck up because GM neutered the shifting behavior in this model. A tune fixes that and gives better gas mileage. The recall you had sounds like a replacement of the module for the Active Shutter system that sits behind the grill and closes at higher speeds to improve fuel economy. Mine was working fine but they still replaced it. Congrats on your truck, you made the right decision.

      Yea, the Tacoma is pretty much made to compete with the Wrangler. I think the only reason the Colorado hasn't caught up in sales is the truck purist are still set on a big ass truck with a big ass V8.
      But on the other hand it at least came in second place and motivated Ford to bring the Ranger back to the States.

  • @palangicdino
    @palangicdino 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This truck is too expensive and suffers from quality issues (according to Chevy Colorado forums). Residual value is going to plummet.
    Also, the fact that chin spoiler is so difficult to remove points to lack of engineering easy of use planning.
    People take their trucks off road and removing the chin spoiler (and putting it back on) should be simple.
    I don't see Chevy endangering Tacoma's leadership (or resale value) in the segment, but competition is certainly welcome. It will be interesting to see if Nissan redesigns Frontier (and puts Cummings diesel in).
    But again, for $36k I'd go for full size truck, likely Tundra SR5 (though I do understand not everyone wants or needs full size truck of course).
    Andre is doing better. I don't think he should try to emulate american accent. He should keep his Russian accent and make it his trademark. Also, hearing Russian speak american popular pop-culture terms such as "awesome" or "wow" sounds a bit unnatural. Use your Russian accent and say "VERY GOOD" instead or come up with something unique. Don't blend in. Shine away Andre! Good job again.
