- In this video we hit the snow covered trails to see how the Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss performs. Thanks to winter tires from Toyo and a host of off-road goodies, the ZR2 was ready for a winter torture test.
We took the new Colorado through thick ice, deep snow and mud. Was it up to the challenge? Find out in the video above.

ZR2's are little tanks. Over 6 years and 105k miles of abuse and mine is still going strong. Thanks again for the recommendation!
How good is the engine do u face any issue like Engine lights on and furthermore and what about mileage compared to Japanese names
@Akbir123 mine is a 3.6 V6. I've never had a warning light on. I haven't heard of any engine problems with it. The new one in this video has a different engine than mine and I'm not too familiar with it
@@2011buddylee The only problems happening are the over the air updates getting stuck and killing the battery.
You take the report of 25 problems out of 20,000 vehicles. I have seen little things that every new truck has its little bs. I have also rolled 7 state parks and offroad challenge courses. No major issues. Injector tune on the ECM is being done this week. Rear end is being checked for improper machining on the bearings. But Chevy is stepping up on all of them. And I can burn a 6ft posi mark with no brake in Baha Mode lots of torque in this baby at 430 to the wheels. Some day you will drop your gen 2.
I've got a Z71 and it's a beast man especially having the baby diesel in it. It'll literally go anywhere. I love these trucks. Definitely little tracks man.
This one looks much better inside and out than the new Taco.
I agree
TFL's new Tacoma also blew a front diff climbing some ice, so there's also that
They want 65k for the Taco TRD pro 😅
@@lgbnz It didn't blow the diff, the failure was electronic.
@@Prometheus0619 and it was fail safe to protect the diff. first year problems. still too damn expensive.
Love this channel, actual off-roading! not some coarse laid out by the manufacturer
'Warm' snow and don't forget the mud really adds to the challenge; nice job Colorado.
Owned my ZR2 for about 5 months now and I absolutely love it. The capabilities surprise me more and more
Crazy how well that thing did in the snow!!
That was CRAZY! That mud and snow looked deep! ZR2 came to play!
This is why we watch truck king.
I like how you whenever you drive toyotas, you're are all careful and patient, but with a Chevy, you just send it.
I really envy you, you have the best job ever.
Great job on the content.
I think that truck would walk all over the TRD Pro, but can't wait to see.
The people complaining about the price are out of touch with reality. This truck starts at $48,800 US. A Gladiator Rubicon starts at $53,800. $2k more for an automatic. Considering what you get, I think it’s a steal. You can get the Colorado WT 4x4 for $35,500. Everyone wants all the bells, whistles, and performance and then they get all twisted up about paying for it. LMFAO. You don’t have to like the global economic conditions we are living in, but that is reality.
Nice to see an off-roader actually fitted with winter off-road tires for once. I shake my head when i see people off-roading in the snow and ice on m+s all-terrain or mud-terrain tires.
Actually, MTs would be PERFECT for this trail.
@@docholliday6285 For THIS trail, I agree. But for most snow/ice conditions, a true snow tire would be much. better, I suspect.
Great review, and unlike so many others out there, you guys are always out in the Real world doing it, not just walking around yet another car show talking about it... Yes, it matters ! Thank you.
Lockers and tires are king when the rubber meets the earth offroad
ZR2 is a sweet truck. I'm so glad that stupid boss package was a one-time deal.. nothing but added junk. Can't wait until you guys get a ZR2 Bison to play with!
You are mistaken. My recovery package and winch and 6 extra cameras and the Boss system was worth 9 grand in trouble.
I was like no way he can go up that hill! Impressive!! We are so lucky to see Chevy making such cool capable trucks
Ain’t no way! This review is so good. Just watched different videos from other channels, like the straight pipes, and they dont even show the rear of the truck or go off-roading with it… You in comparison, even showed the light bar at night. In addition, you are being sponsored by a small business owner, which is really cool and the way to go! I subscribed 👍
Great video. Wow, this ZR2 is fantastic. And above all, your enthusiasm is contagious. THANKS😂
SNOW BOSS
I had my doubts when i seen you start dropping into that mud! ZR2 was impressive!!
can't wait to see what Toyota and Ford does????
ZR2 for President!
Man that was a crazy test. Much better than other channels, love the content.
I wish I watched this before taking my Z71 in the snow last week for added confidence haha
That was very impressive in the snow and mud. Not many other vehicle's would have made it.
I enjoyed watching the ZR2 on those snowy and muddy trails.
Colorado zr2 Blazer? U have everything to make it happen
Looks good. I wouldn't want that light bar on the bed though.
I always enjoy Truck King’s content, specifically the actual off roading.
35k miles on my 2021 zr2 gonna stick with it for a while at these prices love the v6
This 2.7LI4T will SMOKE the previous V6
I got the gmc version of this AT4X 2023, that 2.7 is great power plant for this , mine really woke up after 2000 miles, just chugs , wet snow is very snotty slimy stuff, great job 👏
I love how genuinely happy you sound sending it!
Awesome vid.. im pretty sure my 23 Canyon Denali would have had a very hard time here. Thinking the lockers were needed for this terrain!
can you still lock the rear diff in 2wd like the old model? love that feature!!
Great Video Steveo!!
It did so well, the Bison on 35s must be absolutely wicked.
I feel it is a very short list of new stock vehicles that would make it thru that trail without getting stuck.
As much as those cost they could give you some hood struts...
Struts are great....until they aren't. I'll take a prop rod for reliability any day.
The new Colorado is absolutely beautiful. GM really got that trucks looks right. Stick a Lt v8 in one and that would be a sickest truck. I’m pretty sure Hennessy is already working on a v8 version
Excellent video to test the off-road capabilities of Colorado ZR2 in very harsh conditions! One of the best I’ve seen!
Glad you liked it!
Great video! Really showcased what the truck is capable of.
Can’t wait for my Dessert boss to arrive. Got it on order
That contrast with the snow really makes the "urine" color stand out!
Lmao! 😂🤣
The light bar, the sport bar and the flow tie really did the trick. Well worth the price! Just disregard the non-stock tires. Sure they had no effect. Oh, when you start throwing mud, you're not really driving in the snow anymore.
Nahh that’s cold mud and ice, and mostly snow! 🤷🏽♂️
The ZR2 bison is even..."bigger" and better, but probably don't even need it. The ZR2 is a boss off road. Great review!
We use these trucks in the army at the 101st. Of course it’s more tactical is called a ISV. Same chasis, suspension and off road computer but with a diesel motor. The truck is absolutely amazing. We successfully broke 3 but it’s cause of night driving and we actually beat them to crap. But man they’re so amazing and tough little trucks.
The style looks awesome, better then all others!
love the channel like always.. Bern watchin since ur tfl days but didn't know if u noticed that has the mid under mounted camera under that truck
Great video fellas. Can’t believe that mud and snow before the hill on the left hook. Wow
I love how You don't care if you hit such big rock like in this episode. You just continue the course. Great episode. Greetings
Beautiful truck the great American look💪
The zr2 is a beast it does what many competitors cant do even with aftermarket upgrades even toyota & ford guys respect it as do the jeep guys its pricey but to spec out a ford or toyota to do everything the zr2 does would be expensive as well
Now that was fun watching. Thanks!!!
Just watched again. Again I must say: fantastic! I have not seen any mid sized truck or SVU do this good on the left hook and the rest, even if not snow covered. I am still in shock that you managed to get a Ridgeline thru at all, and without body damage(I have a 21). And I guess that Maverick Tremor did about as good, but trail conditions did not seem as bad. Very impressive results!
Very nice. I have a 2022 4x4 LT. Colorado and I love it. I try to make it look good but it over my budget. I'm 72 and loving it. Wish I had yours.
That Truck is a Savage- I want one! I almost said that little truck- But I would say that it Grew up. I always tune in when you guys are reviewing new trucks-It has been said before, but when its true its true=- Nobody does it like you guys do100% real off road and towing tests. I know it's good information that I'm getting here. and I wanted thanks for the heads uP testing and honest reviews- and Oh Yah It makes me want to go on the trail too, - Hell I'm about to go out and beat up my Tahoe some-LOL
Awesome video. Love the real off roading
Awesome truck. I have a Colorado LT and love it. This looks exceptional. Thanks for the great review.
What a beast of a truck!
I really like this off-road testing
Awesome-looking truck and very capable off-road!
hey Steve, this is one of the best videos among car reviews.
Glad you think so!
It's a shame it cost so much. But, it was awesome off road. Very impressive truck ..THANKS FROM AMERICA 🇺🇸
This seems like a much more complete truck than the new TRDs
I just can't get into the overall look of the side profile, just brutal!! The hood is longer than the bed. Sorry just can't do it. 😢.
You sound jealous lol
Man this thing is a BEAST!!
Dedicated snow tires make the difference.
This look like an amazing truck! Check out the 2024 model. Maybe this is the one to get.
Great video Stephen, yes these are awesome trucks, no doubt , the reason you made it through all your trails and obstacles was the tires it had , i know there are not stock, i guess this is a press vehicle like we use to drive, the ZR2 would have probably made it with stock tires, not without getting stuck at least once, the price is the killer, $76708.00, I helped a buddy spec out a ZR2 back in 2020 and it had every available option except the diesel engine which he didn't want anyway . his truck came out to $21,000.00 less than this one and i know this is an all new Colorado and powertrain, there is nothing wrong with the older V6, he did the winter tire purchase from our local Costco and that thing like this just doesn't care about snow even on ice in 2WD it works just fine and ice fishing, wow , 45 feet tall icy river bank, no problem 4WD high lock the rear and Bob's your uncle 👍
I bought my Ranger Tremor after your comparison video with the ZR2. This new ZR2 is a beast!
Well done with photography
That was some pretty awesome off-roading dude
The dream shop is coming together little by little. Good job brotha! Long time subscriber here since the Hawaii days! Btw that you’re making me want to buy a corvette like yours! Such a badass car.
Looks like fun, glad you actually took it in some tough conditions. Since I can't seem to find a ZR2 on any lots I guess I'll have to order a 2024.
11:28 honestly didn’t expect it to make it up this hill… that was impressive af. I need one of these things. They look badass and have the performance to back up the looks. Not to mention $10-15k cheaper than the Toyotas…
This review was amazing my guy. Great job. I want one lol.
I have wheeled with ZR2 owners and they are legit, but this looked crazy lol.
Do you have “Big Green “? Like to see how old tech manages that trail.
Been wanting a ZR2/AT4X for years and thought this motor would be a beast. Test drove it and was VERY disappointed.
The difference here is front and rear lockers. Definitely the best OFF ROAD midsize. Unfortunately, a 5’ bed and a tiny back seat is a joke for any contractor. Also, 4 cyl. Turbos have a poor history.
The yellow is actually kinda sick. Bet its going to be a rare option.
I’m really impressed !!! WOW
Great video and commentary.
Massive, longitudinally mounted fuel tank has no skid plate?!?!😳😳😳
It does on the Bison model. You can also get skid plate package for ZR2.
@@travisthompson2287 Skid plates SHOULDN'T be an OPTION for a vehicle like this. Especially over a fuel tank. You'd imagine you would get skid plates when you order a ZR2 package!
Amazing review! Please do an Expedition Timberline!!!!
Great job, both you and the truck.
Love the Toyo Tires now we need to see how the Toyota Tacoma does in the snow.
Great(best ever?) results! And it DID NOT CUT POWER at critical moments or any other moment! Was this even better than the Toyota 4Runner you used as an ice breaker? I think maybe so! Oh, man, the price, as with all of them, that is a huge problem.
love this truck
👍
Thinking of getting one just for the Ontario pit holes🤣
They don't offer a desert boss in Canada, I did order a ZR2, and paid extra for the DSSV bump stops
The color & truck are great! 👍🏻
Sounds good, now we need bring it to the Rubicon.
Trucks of today are awesome but at the sametime very expensive. I would just get an older inline 6 jeep or a single seater atv and enjoy off roading for a fraction of the price plus I feel that you will actually be able to work on them yourself if they break.
Truck of the year 😊
Beautiful truck
I love the capability of this truck, the styling is incredible as well. My biggest question is the long term reliability of this new drivetrain and electronic interfaces.... With the price point being more than a Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro (Current Gen), will it achieve the same longevity? Time will tell.... But I am doubtful.
I love this channel, look forward to next video
👍😃👍 That was freaking epic! Nicely done!
not a GM guy but this truck looks and performs awesome
Definitely beats up the Frontier which barely made it without snow.
If only there was a 6 ft bed!
