I used the 3M and removed all the stripes on my motorhome no issues whatsoever no residue I recommend it it’s worth the money..No heat gun would even come close to the damaged cracked decals I had this was the perfect solution
I've tried both the 3M and the knock offs and I'll take the 3M anyday. Knockoffs wore down after removing 2 company vehicle decals and I'm on my 4th vehicle with the 3M wheel and I still have 70% left. Well worth the $$ in my opinion.
If you're doing more than 1 definitely worth the it for the 3m. Especially where I'm at! They're $39! Just doing 1 truck the $11 is fine. 1 and done. Who cares? You won't even need it anymore. I went and got the 3m cause i was doing my highlander, my ram, guy from work's ram and friend's Silverado and the 3m i got still has a ton of life left in it.
Recently replaced the side moldings on my 250 OBS. The 3M wheel is just under $60 here in FL now so I gave the knock off a try. One wheel did both sides and there's still about 25% of the wheel left, no harm to the paint. Money well spent.
The way the dealer does is heat gun then dental fross diped in alcohol wrap dental fross two fingers and like a saw goes through the adhesive no mess no expensive tools no erasers. we use decal erasers on decal stripes.
Doesn’t work like that on anything that’s been in the sun. You’ll always be splitting the double sided tape, so this wheel removes that half of the tape that’s stuck to the project.
He got it too hot.. it melts the adhesive. You just need a hair dryer, not a heat gun.. or a heat gun on low with some space. Then the floss cuts right through the warm adhesive.
Good one, man!! This is about the best video I've seen on de-badging! Down & dirty!! I used the Harbor Freight plastic body tools to pop off the lettering, instead of messing with the heat gun. Came out fine.
Have you tried the "fishing line" method to initially remove the lettering, then go to the eraser to remove the remaining residue. No heat gun is needed. Also, will the eraser work on glass without creating a haze on the glass?
Use a heat gun to make the fishing line cut easier, then take your fingernail and clean the bulk of residue off, then hit it with the wheel, I’ve done 9 trucks on one 3m wheel still has 80% life left in it
Thanks for this Nick. I just did my 2011 Silverado the trims were started to peel away. The residue from the tape was a bugger but I think I will go this route for the rest of the trim. Ottawa Ontario Canada.
Tom, how did the paint look after the removal was complete? My trim on my 2013 silverado is coming loose and I'm wanting to remove it like in this video. My truck is victory red and I'm wondering if there will be newer looking stripes afterwards due to paint fade on the rest of the surface.
U dud awesome! I almost tried to scrape it off like the other videos suggested. U got 2 thumbs up from me ! My side moldings are a pain and i want to take it off of my 2011 silverado LT. THANK YOU.
Thanks for the video Nick definitely picking up one of those wheels from Amazon I’ve been putting off debadging not wanting to deal with the adhesive part.
I did my 2012 black Tahoe just a section about 8” and can’t see from a distance but you get close you can see where I passed it almost look like residue with hardcore sun swirls.
I know this video is old but yes if you are just doing a simple badge removal then yes buy the cheap wheels. If you are doing large decals or do a ton of decals then spend the money and buy something of better quality. I use probably 100 wheels a year removing decals for replacement. The 3M wheels last a lot longer. I also have the purpose built pneumatic tool just for them. A cheap wheel is fine for quick jobs like taking your ram decals off. If you are doing large jobs then you need better quality.
The 3M wheel worked awesome $30 or $11 Ainokea as long as da bugga worked and was actually quicker and easier then a lot of the videos I saw on you tube, plus my truck is black and looks like nothing was ever there. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
There’s a description section you need to expand. If you’re on a phone there’s a little down arrow to the right of the video title. Click that and it’ll expand. Thanks
I just got 1 on sale for $6.99 original price was $16.99 so saved $10. I needed 1 to get the decals off a camper trailer. I have to get the decals off so as to be able to paint the trailer roof. Now what will it cost to make some decals like the 1s that were on it hmmm? There was no way I was going to pay for a wheel that cost up to $40 plus tax and shipping.
Very good demo, but how can you dismiss the 3M product without trying it? The cheap versions are excellent on a small decal as shown in your video and work very well. However they are alot slower than the 3M product on large decals such as the ones I tackled on the side of my van. I am not sponsered or have any affilitaion with 3M in case you were wondering, but the title of your video is very mis-leading. I did one side of my van with a cheap version which took the decals off, no damage to the paint and was as you described in your video the way to go rather than using scrapers (I tried that as well). It took over 4 hours though and the wheel was done before I finished. I tried the 3M version, same results except 2 to 3 times faster and less wear to the wheel. You pays your money and takes your choice. Cheap wheels are ideal for small decals or even a pinstripe, but not cost effective for large decals in my opinion
Appreciate your comment. I think it kind of proves my point though. This cheap wheel get the job done and you save money. I’m not saying the 3m is bad. I’m saying you don’t need it. Thanks 👍
Do you have any advice on what I could use to help blend where I took my badge off? I debadge my suv but the outline of my decal kinda still shows through.
I rebadged my car with 3m adhesive, which is far worse than the original adhesive on the car. I debadged that with a hair dryer, dental floss, and goof off in 20 minutes. I bought nothing. I had floss (obviously) and a hairdryer, and goof off already. I would rather heat it up than risk scraping my paint. The goof off finishes cleaning the smeared mess no problem.
I buy the 3m wheel locally for $20. Watch buying those cheap wheels on line ive seen them scratch paint. Also cutting the letters off with fishing line is easier
so i just did this to my black truck and now the hemi 6.4 is still faintly visible in the paint....any idea what can get rid of this? is that something that buffs out? its noticable that a badge used to be there.
You might be just the guy to answer my question. I bought a '93 Gregor aluminum boat. The factory decals are about 14 inches X 4 inches and are really, really faded and checked. I bought a decal remover (not the one in your video) from Amazon and wore that thing to a nubbin trying to remove them. It didn't remove so much as a square inch of the decal itself, much less the residual adhesive. Will the wheel in your video be effective in my case, or do you know of a chemical remover that might be more effective?
If you do a badge you don't need a good wheel. if you do racing stripe removal as a detailer.. you definitely need the 3M wheel. Tried the cheapest one to the most expensive one ... pay thy money if you do this for work
I would not recommend using an eraser wheel for removing pin stripes or decals on trucks, some people have great luck, but it’s luck of the draw, I bought a 3 mm eraser wheel off Amazon, I used it for removing a pin stripe, well the second it touched my truck, the eraser is almost as if it melted and stuck to my truck like tar, but worse, I’ve tried everything trying to get the eraser wheel residue off and the pin stripe off, here it is a week later and still can’t get it wiped clean and cleared up, I’ve tried everything, goo gone, residue remover, alcohol, buffing, hand sanitizer, I’m going to try a heavy duty clay bar next, but I feel it’s a waste of more money, those eraser wheels can have a bad outcome, be careful using them, it wasn’t as simple as people made it seem, and I was going at low speed, I had barely touched the truck, so I know I didn’t burn it or anything else.
@@NickMango I only noticed it because I had already seen the tape video and I was hoping it hadn't come off again. Just got my 22 Tradesman and I'm reviewing all your videos... Thanks for all the info!

Yeah I’ve seen this video. If you watch mine to the end you’ll see that it takes about 90 seconds to completely clean off the RAM adhesive. Going any faster than that is really unnecessary imo.
The wheel is a waste of money and string is as well....just use a plastic trim pry tool and Goof Off and wax after done....its not rocket science....all these debadging videos suck and are all the same. But what to expect out of younger generation....always wanting to re invent the wheel
He needs to learn what he is talking about. I have seen reviews covering cheap wheels along with 3m. time tests, a Temperature test, and residue left behind. 3M won on all test specs. Apples for apples baby.
@@NickMango Well I missed the part you said it was the cheap one you used. I do vinyl installation and removal for a living and use 3M why because of quality. I don't want to take a chance screwing somebodies paint job up because I used cheap crap trying to save a buck.

Thanks Robert! Appreciate it.

I used the 3M and removed all the stripes on my motorhome no issues whatsoever no residue I recommend it it’s worth the money..No heat gun would even come close to the damaged cracked decals I had this was the perfect solution
Replaced chrome badges for black badges, cause truck is black. Used that wheel, hair dryer, fishing line, and rubbing alcohol. Did the job just fine

That’s not how all dealers do it. The halfway ones may, but any professional uses a wheel.
He got it too hot.. it melts the adhesive. You just need a hair dryer, not a heat gun.. or a heat gun on low with some space. Then the floss cuts right through the warm adhesive.
LOL I had that damn $43 3M one in my Amazon cart and something told me to check a few more vids and here we are. Ordered this one immediately. 🤣
3M makes the best stuff. Cheap knockoffs often chunk or flat wear down faster. 3M is proven superior, period.
Good one, man!! This is about the best video I've seen on de-badging! Down & dirty!! I used the Harbor Freight plastic body tools to pop off the lettering, instead of messing with the heat gun. Came out fine.

I've been using cheap wheels for well over a decade now and they've all worked absolutely perfectly. 💯 😂
Ordered the wheel.... worked exactly like you said and demonstrated. THANKS
I just got one on amazon for 7.99 worked great
Great video, thanks Nick. If you think 3-letter "RAM" is annoying, I'm about to try removing 11-letter "BRONCO sport" from the lift gate.

@hooked_fish Late reply, but yes, I used a cheap Amazon knock-off wheel to remove old stripes and lettering from a 36' sailboat. Worked great.
