  • Rupert Spira is a contemporary spiritual teacher, writer, and artist known for his teachings on non-duality and the nature of consciousness. He is widely recognized for his clear and accessible approach to Advaita Vedanta, which is a traditional Indian philosophy emphasizing the unity of the self (Atman) with the ultimate reality (Brahman).
Spira's teachings focus on exploring the nature of consciousness and its relationship to experience, perception, and the sense of self. He often uses direct inquiry, guided meditation, and contemplative practices to help individuals recognize their essential nature as pure awareness.
In addition to teaching, Rupert Spira has authored several books, including "The Transparency of Things," "Presence: The Art of Peace and Happiness," and "The Nature of Consciousness." He also conducts retreats, workshops, and online courses worldwide, offering guidance and support to those interested in exploring the nature of reality and the path to inner peace and freedom.

It highlights the importance of shifting focus from seeking happiness externally to recognizing and embracing the innate joy within ourselves.

Everything that everyone does is an attempt to make them feel happier or happy. All misplaced effort! This video is probably the most important and life-changing video on the whole of TH-cam!

"Nobody and nothing can make us unhappy. Our suffering is our own moment to moment activity." Would this also be the case where someone is being tortured and murdered? Fairly sure they're being made unhappy.

Very true. And its kind of like how people had suffered in concentration camps under Hitlers rule. And yet while there was the captives what had been overcome by the suffering and had given up and perhaps even quickly died, there was others who'd decided to turn the tables around by finding ways to survive and to create their own types of community amusement. Which must have seriously pissed some of the guards off no end 🙂

Exactly. All these semantics are just that. Words. Once a real hardship hits, no one cares about all the yakkety-yak.

@middleofnowhere1313 I'd love to get an answer from the gurus on this point. I've asked many times but never get a reasonable response.

@@ron4520 so you don't believe that there'd be any strong minded and strong willed Ukrainians out there in our world who still manage to find a way to create their own sense of happiness, and fun and even enjoyment of sorts, even in tough times when bombs have been falling and been tearing buildings apart, and death has been all around them. Even so far as to run a disco, and party the night and days away, with some other Ukrainians. Perhaps doing so while running their working bees to rebuild, even although their efforts could very well stand a chance to end up to be all for nothing, if in fact Russian invaders could even return and begin bombing the buildings all over again
You don't believe that there has been staunch military men throughout time either who've smiled in the faces of their torturers, rather than agreeing to bow down to the will of tyrants who'd otherwise seek to use the info they'd desire to extract, through torture, to get to use such to go and kill large numbers of other good people
      You don't think so Ron?
Its not that its necessarily ever a breeze to achieve. That's for certain. Few gurus would bother to say it is. But even so, this still isn't to say that it cannot ever be achieved
