    You are correct about the neck pickup. I realize I'm late with the comment xD the reason it sounds clearer could be a combination of things. However primarily the reason is the location of your palm and pick in reference to the pickup. Also the pickup in reference to it's location under the strings.

    Much appreciated Jason. I've been stuck in a rut for awhile as a intermediate player, and have been wanting to learn to solo for years as I felt as if I've plateaued and need to expand my skills to try and improve.

    Great video Jason! Love the Sweep picking. Probably the hardest part for me in soloing is figuring out the movable patterns. I'm sure I'm just over thinking it. Rock on. 🤘🤘🤘

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thank you, and yes, sweep picking is a touch cookie to master because the techniques goes completely against the grain of every other lead guitar technique. It's almost like learning a new language at first. But the one thing I've learned that helps is simple...consistency. If you practice the simple patterns, like in this video, everyday, you will force yourself to get better and can gradually move on to more complex patterns.
      All that said, I still struggle today with sweeps! Some days I can pull them off with ease, and others it's like...did I just start playing sweeps??

    • @tpike32
      @tpike32 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can think of them as Major Bar chords . To make it simple just use top three strings . GBE strings . And a regular D and D minor chord first position just move that same position up . Move D up a whole step it becomes a E .. etc

    My leads are more erratic than a Kerry King solo when I try playing fast leads. I get so far and go nuts with my trem bar. Not when playing covers of course, but when I try to add leads to my origional material. I've been playing for over 40 years and I've always been the rythm player who knows a little flash. This vid helped me figure out how to add leads to my songs a little better. It's good to hear another guy play stuff in a lesson format for inspiration. Thanks man.

    Jason, Jason, Jason.....my friend....may I have a word with you? You forgot to revel the reason you would chose a technique based on its feel and effect.
    Ex #1:
    You alternate pick in order to melt the faces of the audience and pummel them into submission until they are in sensory overload.
    Ex #2:
    You use all other techniques to conquer resilient individuals and competing guitarists to declare your dominance....but be careful, it may cause bowel eviscerations or death in weak rivals.
    Knowing why you are doing a thing is at least as important as knowing how to do it. ;-)

BTW the finger tapping bit sounded a whole bunch like Whitecross Flashpoint was that your Muse or just coincidence? Link below ..check out round :30 to se what I mean...Love the Vid

    Number 4. I have done legato and various types of hammer ons offs but usually stick with the 17-15-12 pattern type. Going from 12-7-12-8-12-10-8-7 will be different and thats what I am going to work on now. Also going to pay attention to a down stroke scale progression to see if it sounds that much different. I suck at down stroking. Stupid James Hetfield.

      @jasonstallworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol...yeah, I just wanted to throw something in there for sweeps but tried to keep it simple. I actually feel that sweep picking is a bit overrated because it seems once people become good at it, that's all they do and nothing else.
      I really think guitarists should focus more on rhythms and riffs.. That's the heart and foundation of metal!

    So let me break down my story for you guys here; I am a professional guitarist and I actually do make some money here and there as a part time studio guitarist (nothing major, sorry guys). I actually started off in metal. stuff like megadeth, slayer, Pantera, deicide, death, dimmu borgir, cannibal corpse, etc. but I have been so far removed from it for so long I gotta go back to the beginning with it. Rhythm isn’t the issue, but the way you approach a lead for blues, pop, regular rock, is different from how you would approach a lead for something like a morbid angel song. My shit sounds to happy now, so I gotta start broadening that horizon because I’m trying to figure out a way to bridge it all together. Kinda like Opeth in some aspects I guess
