Just wanted to say.. thank you for all of your lessons! It's exactly what I was looking for! I am a late in life starter.. started at 52.. and have been playing for 2 years...there are times I felt like giving up.. because I thought I wasn't very good..and would never be able to do things like this... No one else really teaches this.. or shows you things like this.. I am grateful to have found this.. thank you..and keep doing what your doing to help us beginner to intermediate players who want to play metal!

Bro this is Rico, trying to get back to practicing. Dealing with a torn left bicep from just lifting a half empty storage bin, not even 20 pounds. Raised over my head and I was on a ladder to get it on a storage rack. I heard a pop. Makes it worst I’m left handed. Besides practicing I used to be a bodybuilder in the 80s when I lived in Europe. Had to redesign my back routine by utilizing a hammer style grip, this puts less stress. Also reduce the weight and rest between sets. Did not want to bore you but you are really cool and very humble. Even through I’m 60 and served served my country for over 40 years, became successful despite being raised from New York without a mom. My dadis my biggest inspiration. I mentored hundreds over my career did some cool and sometimes insane jobs for the military still look to the younger folks like yourself for inspiration. Keep up the good work. I read your book great job. I hope this year you achieve your goal of 100k subscribers, you worked your butt off to provide excellent content and I will pass the word to my friends about your channel. Once again did not meant for this to be long but you need to be recognized for your milestones. God bless Rico.

I've been playing or learning guitar for the past 41 years. By 1986 I had my chops and was in my prime. I finished the 80s in a thrash band doing Slayer, Metallica, Exodus covers and originals. Grunge came and I was 21. The demand was for a whole other style of guitar. It made me lazy. By 2000 I fell into the new metal thing and was playing 7 strung guitars and focusing on playing dark down tuned guitar. Had a head injury and that put a stop to my playing. I forgot most of what I used to know. As I heald I used guitar as a coping technique and as therapy, but I was frustrated because it was as if I started all over again and barely knew any of the things I used to know. Lead playing has alluded me since I picked the guitar back up 5 years ago. This video in so.e way unlocked my memory and seemed so familiar to me. Now I'm starting to put the pieces back together with your teachings here. Thank you for this vid. Just what I needed.

@@jasonstallworth Doing it. I have an audition tonight so I've been playing since 8 oclock this morning getting loose. I really loved the grunge era. Mostly Alice in Chains. Jerry sure can pump out the sledge. I became a huge fan of the Pixies and Nirvana really spoke to me in a big way at the soul level. I got to cover so many great 90s songs. A lot of the bands around my area who covered grunge tunes were always looking for a metal guitar player. It was a lot of fun and I picked up a few Fenders and Gibsons along the way that I will not selll.

ThanX brother. I recently found your page & it hits dead center. Right on time with what I want & need to do. Learn some leads. After years and years being in a rhythm rut, admittedly loving much of it, rhythm playing is a lot of fun. I'd love to be able to find myself and express it with my music. Up until now, much of it just did not click. I am self taught, and I just I the last 2 years picked up guitar again after a 20 year hiatus while I was being dad. Gotta say, the modern era of learning is WAY better than when I started in the 80s reading tab.

I'm so glad you chose this topic, Jason. While tone comes 98% from the players fingers, the personality and signature sound comes from the embellishments like slide, vibrato and ultimately the bends. One will always recognize a hero's signature from these traits. Randy Rhodes, Zakk Wylde, Steve Vai, Satriani, and my personal favorite, Carlos Santana. Great topic, brother.

I really like the fact you stress developing your own style so much! While I manage to get the hang of favourite riffs, I hardly can do the more intricate or fast leads and kind of gave up on lead. But your video made me realise I should find what fits me in lead as I have done for rythm playing! I like mellow melodic licks but also aggressive riffs. Marrying those styles without sounding cheesy is a challenge 😂
