    Awesome lesson. I love that style. I think I heard Keith Richards refer to it as The Ancient art of weaving. Def Leppard are kings of this so are Perry and Whitford. To bands from Seattle that were great at it as well Queensryche and Pearl Jam, I'll give Black Crows a honorable mention. And of course Malcom and Angus.

  • @ronswary
    @ronswary 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sounded familiar very 80s I just wrote a backing track the other day that’s this progression and very similar riffing only differences is I bent the A on 6 string with the open A string sounds Erie . Then give it a nice harmonic touch as I let it up tho on open a after power cord .. that’s funny .🤘🏻 I have the most fun just noodling around with tracks even just drum tracks of famous songs and make it my own experience recording a lot of it but who wants 15 min long riffing and wild solos that’s a jumbled mess of recorded noodling lol

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah dude, it's cool to just jam along with songs. I did a lot of that when I started out...I'd throw in a cassette or sometimes just the radio, and would make up solos to them

    Hey Jason, great video. I've recently started exploring changing between chords and single notes within the same scale. It's been at a much slower tempo than Metal Riff Master (MRM) and is helping me with the transitions.
    As you were showing these riffs, I was creating the connections back to the stuff I mentioned above. I'm a big fan of understanding the "why" something sound great. Looking forward to getting back to MRM at some stage as I think I'll have better luck nailing the riffs.
    On another topic, you mentioned you record your own bass tracks which is something I'm keen to do. I'm currently taking an online bass course to help. I can find a few bass videos on your channel, but would you consider doing some more and explain how you chose what to play in the context of your awesome metal rhythms please?
    Keep it Metal 🤘🤘🤘

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dude, to be honest, things have been shifting a little internally. A lot of it has to do with the live acoustic gigs that I've been doing so much of lately. And it's all going back to the roots of where I started, with more of that hard rock and classic metal sound along with my greatest influence, Joe Satriani.
      Like, the album I'm recording right now (I wrote the songs and my drummer recorded his tracks over a year ago for this album!), I originally recorded it with my 7 string but I'm re-recording it with mainly my Ibanez RG (6 string) and making some changes here and there. It's metal, but it's more classic meets thrash metal, which a foundation of melodies.

    • @ronswary
      @ronswary 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jasonstallworth satriani is amazing in my top tier list for sure . I love the 90s hard rock sound post grunge stuff pretty much anything after the 90s it just to much it sounds great but it get to be all the same sound “djent” . I love playing hard rock with a 80smetal twist

      I love when musicians have lots of different styles that bleed out subconsciously when they play and compose!

  • @ronswary
    @ronswary 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One question that comes to mind Jason I don’t ever ask much lol … hope this makes sense -a typical band playing live or just guys jamming out is two guitarist maybe three if vocals can jam .. everyone’s playing different setups right ok , on a Daw doing solo work playing and writing it all yourself do you use same amps/cab sims for rhythm as lead and change FXS or are they two separate beasts that played together harmonize? I find when I’m mixing my tracks my lead is sounding good nice tone not to much of anything crazy but it’s hard to find that blend of ok the tracks going good progression nice riffing and then the lead kinda cuts it if that makes sense not a volume cut but something isn’t quite right . If I can figure this out that be great lol I’m working so hard at life and still keeping discipline at my music I put it hold for many years in the past from starting piano at 4 bc of negativity around me but that’s the past I’ve been playing for the future 20+ years playing has been a long road but it’s coming to light rapidly in this digital age and how easy it is to actual be in a studio without being in a studio with some cables a computer and some gear lol

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah dude, the 'new way' of recording with technology has made the process a lot more feasible. As far as amps (and even amp sims), I typically use the same amp for a song, or at least for the parts with distortion. The only thing I'll do it make a slight shift with the mic or use a different cabinet for that 2nd rhythm track. I do the same when recording a real amp (I'll just move the mic a little on that 2nd track, OR I may use a slightly different EQ setting for the mids or highs just to get a different, but not substantially different tone). I've experimented using different amps and most of the time, it just doesn't mesh together too well. And I like to keep things simple.

    do you want millions of views? and subs? let me tell you what we want. 100's or do by 20 lol riffs of 80's rock songs from Motley to kiss and all in between you know them all. play just the main parts and put the freaken tabs on screen so we can actual learn chords etc... in a song that we know in a context that's way more fun. that way we learn and it's fast and easy. instead of a bunch of guitar theory and put your finger here and put that finguer there, this is in a/b sharp 13 add44 sus79 and 6th notes and a half inteval and a quater going to the what the heck ever omg THAT would be best. there are not enough youtubers doing that on youtube.

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's actually more along the lines of my lessons (I don't get into theory as it's not how I learned). As far as 'how to play other people's songs' - that's something something that interests me at all. Rather, I share some of the methods and techniques used. More than learning songs, I encourage folks to branch out and come up with their own riffs

    • @christineblack4654

      @@jasonstallworth oh ok sorry. I am randomly suggesting this to many because that's what I'm looking for.. so sorry for that.I like better to learn say a new chord in a song that I like because it's way more fun that way and then I will play it again and again and then I will have it in my hand and finguers to THEN play other riff with it as I please. but hey thats my way of thinking now because I have been watching for years 100s of different lessons on theory and getting no were fast and having zero fun. so I'm done with it for a while. seriously do you know how many vids there are on theory? and they all show bite and parts of theory thinking it will be easier for people or is it for more views. or is it for lack of knowing how to put it all toghetter. na I am tired of it because it doesnt even make me what to play realy at all. so realy I am learning nothing. and certainly not getting better. so bites of songs will be for me now and more fun, at least I will be actualy playing with my guitars.
