    I’ve played like 100+ hours of Cathay since IE released and despite its flaws you can snowball your economy to insane levels. Making 50k gold per turn with 8 full stack armies before turn 100. Plus you are close to the Dragon isles which can be occupied for even more money. Can not wait for regiments if renown and legendary lords for them.

    My biggest annoyance with Cathay is you barely actually defend the bastion, the AI just sieges it down and you have to attack them. That sort of negates the whole fantasy about defending the wall for me.

      yep, they need to remove or weaken the AI wall people in immortal empires, where as the souls race mode has almost too many attacks

      the wall should be impossible to siege from one side.
      The whole point of a siege is to SURROUND a city to prevent it from getting more food and supplies, so the people inside eventually starve. You literally can't fucking surround one side of a wall while the other side is open and the direction all the supplies are coming from. It is idiotic.

    Hey there, thanks for your vid, it's really useful and well presented. Only thing I wanted to note is that it seems that you're having some issues with your mic. It looks like a "high gate" which is usually used to cut some background noises, but yours seems to be setup in a way that it even activates when you pronounce some high syllables. It could be something else, but from listening attentively, it seems to be the thing that makes the most sense for what's happening.
    But besides that, thanks again for those infos. I'm gonna start my next Cathay playthrough soon, and I had a really hard time getting into the faction in my first runs. I hope this will help making things go smoother.

    Cool guide! I enjoy the faction and mechanics more than most people here, it seems. Just so you're aware, it's Yin, not Ying, both in-game and irl. It's no big deal, but it stood out along with the audio issues. I wonder if that's a gate problem? I know I've fixed that before, but it's been ages since I messed with audio stuff. It's cool you're pumping these out. Must take a lot of effort!

      I think they just need to give us more ways to manipulate the yin and yang, or maybe still consider it balanced if it's just one or two points off. It kind of feels bad to not be able to complete technologies or having shit go out of balance when occupying a settlement. It makes it so that victories or achievements come tagged with a negative effect.

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They might tweak it a bit but I doubt a full rework is likely, considering its designed to punish you if you dont plan ahead. Also a legit strat is to largely ignore it and only try to balance it periodically during peace time.

    I love Grand Cathay, from a Lore standpoint they're the only Order race who still have their god/protector with them (Carthayan Dragons). In game the Sky Junks are my second fav unit in the game, they are just so efficient you get artillery, 4 armor piercing shooters and a bomb ability in just 1 unit. They also have the ROR Terracotta Sentinel which just destroys Ai armies with cheese by redirecting all the projectiles back Jedi style.
    The Sky Junks are the bane of melee units since they don't land and the ROR Terracotta are the bane of ranged units so with these 2 the Ai don't stand a chance lol.

    Honestly I don't recommend building the barrack building for jade warriors/crossbowmen at all. With Miao Ying your main DPS are the archers, and the frontline units are just expendable meatshields which you can replace on the go. Jade warriors have higher armor and combat stats, but they are also way more expensive and missing on anti large, charge defence and has smaller entity numbers. Jade crossbowmen has even LOWER total dmg output per unit than the archers due to lower entity while being way more expensive.
    My playstyle so far is to rush 2 full armies of 4 spearmen + 14 archers combo with one lord and one embeded hero. In combat just overwhelm the enemies with numbers. If one army doesn't suffice, then bring two. Only after reaching tier 4 I'll start swapping out spearmen for top tier melee and archers for rocket batteries, until I reach tier 5 and swap out archers for dragon crossbowmen.
    Works great on Legendary/Very Hard difficulty.

      Interesting I find jade units still to be better in my testing on high levels, but each to their own.

    My only gripe really with cathay right now until they get a dlc is the bastion. It is utterly pointless. When it does get attacked, it just gets sieged down or you attack it. You never actually fight on the bastion. Hell, the biggest reason the bastion exists, chaos, is moot, because the chaos faction that spawns in front of it just teleports past it. It doesnt actually hold anything.

    • @LordForwind

  • @Loyal_Lion
    @Loyal_Lion ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you actually say Cathay's economy isn't that good?!
    Cathay actually has the potential for a very strong economy through:
    - Caravans
    - Building income
    - Buildings that give you increased percentage to trade or settlement income
    - Base income from upgraded settlements
    - Bonuses from compass
    - Bonuses from character skills
    - Reduced upkeep skill on lords
    - Decent amount of gold from sacking which can be upgraded
    - Various technologies to buff your income or reduce army upkeep
    - A lot of trading alliance potential especially if you manage your reputation well
    - Sea Dragon edict
    - Extreme reduction to upkeep of armies in Great Bastion settlements
    I think they're one of the strongest economies in the game right now with all these options, possible the strongest. I was making 30k+ per turn by the time I got the Long Victory and that wasn't even trying all that hard to min-max.

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep I did, because their basic economy building are rather bad! They can earn insane money but it require good usage of mechanics to get to that level and time to build up. Early game can be very painful especially if Ogres are aggressive to caravans. So relative to factions like Dwarfs, Empire, Lizardmen, their economy is bad until mid-late game where any faction should be stupidly rich if played right.

  • @BittermanAndy
    @BittermanAndy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've only just started Cathay, about 40 turns in, but so far the balance thing is a pain in the dick. Recruit an army? Out of balance! Lose an army? Out of balance! Build a new building? Out of balance! Research a new tech? Out of balance! Confederate? Gangbusters out of balance, you're screwed! It's just a complete nightmare and very tedious.
    Like, how is anyone actually expected to remember that in seven turns from now you'll have built four different new buildings and researched two different new technologies, so over the next seven turns you need to have recruited three new characters of the right balance type and hope nothing else happens in the meantime to change things? Utterly, utterly tedious, but if you ignore it your empire falls apart.

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's Cathay for you. It's annoying but doubt they will change it

    • @crimsonfc3616
      @crimsonfc3616 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally turn 1 recruit a new lord and build one building to stay in balance from the start. Then when I gain new territory you just have to build your building in pairs and when doing technology just wait save a build slot in your territory’s to balance it. Once you get the alchemists and Astro man we buildings all over you can just recruit them to balance you territory. Plus alchemists have “boost economy” so it all balances out. It can be tedious but once you get the hang of it it becomes manageable.

    Don't be afraid to IGNORE base Jade Warriors.
    Late game, a LOT of armies field Infanry that will either cut down, or just wear down, Jade Warriors 1v1. Missile Infantry will be what make the difference for YOUR Melee Infantry.
    The other major factor is Monsters and Monstrous Infantry/ Cavalry Units. Halberd Infantry will hold up substantially better against them compared to regular Melee Infantry, and with the fact you WILL be bringing range- and lots of it, means Halberd Jade Warriors, and later Celestial Dragon Guard w/ Halberds, are the better option for almost every single army you will fight. DGMW, sometimes CDG Crossbow Doomstacks are fun as fuck, and can pack a punch... but I'd rather rely on Anti Large Infantry for the line-holding. and reserve pure Damage Dealing to my Ranged units and Terrecotta Sentinels.

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh yeah of course replace them, you need them early game and they are still solid units the whole game, cathay cant really win melee fights and relies on ranged to get kills for most of the game.

    I noticed you don't recommend lightning strike? Is there a particular reason? I've found it very, very helpful and that's like the first thing I go for.

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Early on it takes too many points now to get the full benefit from compared to TW2. Very few lords need it early on and with the changes to the Ai its not as useful unless you are attacking into multiple armies, which are usually easier to beat with ambushes than lightning strikes. Some factions and lords its worth getting early and it is worth eventually getting on all lords.
      Early on I find that the increase regen, decreased upkeep are usually better. Plus I find new/low experience players (which is what the guide is aimed towards) tend to use it as a crutch for bad maneuvering of armies.
      Since the update I have finished 17 games and never needed it once. In TW2 I needed more but not as much in TW3. I hope that explains the logic of why I dont recommend it, its good but usually early on those points are better spent elsewhere.
