I have the Alu Cab as well and swapped the factory mattress with the exped duo. I have no complaints, and with the higher R value I sleep comfortably in any climate. The only reason I would even contemplate going this direction is how easy it’s to fold and remove from the tent for cleaning. Thanks for the video! Well done!
I have heard good things about the Exped gear, I had read that the mattress needed to be deflated to close the tent though. The R-value increase from any of them is a huge perk though, I would have been significantly colder this weekend with the factory mattress!
@@IndependenceOverland I just finished a trip from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico last week and left my exped inflated the entire time. ( I did learn that, that was a bad idea after getting into 11,000 plus elevation. My exped looked like a ballon’s when I opened the Alu Cab🤣)I will say that I removed my king size pillow though to close up. The latches still sealed the RTT but I started noticing that there was some condensation inside the seal. Im guessing that he exped and the pillow compromised the seal somewhat by pressing against the roof.
Thanks so much for sharing this info! I just got Alu cab on my 4Runner and I need to replace the mattress. Looking forward to hearing your experience in the field!
Okay I’ve slept on this thing over a dozen nights now. I thought I was sleeping good at camp before but it’s no contest. This mattress is absolutely worth the money, and I plan to buy the dog bed for the pup at the next expo so the trail isn’t as hard on her. My wife, my dog, my best friend, and myself are all very impressed with it.
Tyler, thanks so very much for sharing your experience with HEST mattress! I’m about to leave for 5 week long trip, unfortunately that’s for work but I’ll live out of my truck and get housing money, so not too bad! I just ordered the mattress with a pillow! My lady is very picky for mattress and pillows, so this review and additional follow up are so amazing! Your channel is such an amazing source of info of Toyota trucks, Alu Cab stuff and great stories from your adventure!
I purchased the single pad. Best $$$ ever spent. Im able to store the ladder, pillow and blanket right next to it. No problem closing my hardshell tent.
Man I’ve used it multiple nights, and just got back from a high elevation cold weekend and we slept much warmer than we would have with the old mattress, not to mention how comfortable it is. Links below! Thanks man enjoy 🤙
@@IndependenceOverland So I ended up pulling the trigger on this one thanks to your video. I found one for 25% off discount which was a great saving so I think it's worth the gamble. I am hesitant about the height and width for my FSR tent... worst case I'll remove my pillows and blanket and keep in the the cab. I hope it works out!!
I have ordered two of these now. First a Foamy for a family member and now the dually long for the same tent you have. When I layed down on the Foamy I knew I needed one for my Gen 3.1. Can’t wait to get it up there. Going to be at Overland West in May?
It’s still my favorite thing I’ve bought in the last 2 years. We ended up buying a $3500 Purple king mattress at home so we could find the same quality of sleep. We would go on 1-2 week trips and sleep way better than we ever would at home. Being completely serious. They have several deals going on right now. Their new comforter is awesome as well, the footbox helps keep you really warm. I do understand it’s expensive though. bit.ly/46tyT5v
Yes sir, I fit 2 hest pillows, the hest comforter, and a micro fiber blanket. And that is all with a 1/2 anticondensation mat I put in there. OVERLAND50 if you decide to order! Thanks man!
I do use a mat. I use the Hypervent stuff from mattress inside. I got it before it was easier to find mats for RTTs. I’ve never had an issue with condensation, though I know many have. I also keep dehumidifier bags in the tent but I’ve never had to dry them out. Looks like they stopped selling the exact ones I use but these are the same concept. amzn.to/3TMJjsr
Absolutely one of the best things I have bought. So much so that after we realized how crappy we sleep at home. So we (in the last 2 months) bought a Nectar mattress. We thought it was good until we just did a 2 week trip with the tent. We slept better during the trip than on the new Nectar, so we are actually going to return that thing and look for something better. I’m not just blowing smoke, it’s truly an awesome mattress. I’m secretly hoping they one day make king size. Until then, we are on a quest to find the same quality sleep at home.
Absolutely awesome man. 100% putting it into the new camper setup this winter. I have yet to have anything tell me they bought once based on my advice and regret it.
@@IndependenceOverland I have had the air mattress for the iKamper mini for a while and it is good but not great. This mattress could be the ticket if it fits. I see now they make ones for RTT's.

Awesome to hear! I don’t think people understand the level of quality and comfort these things add. Not to mention insulation.
Very cool! Adding this to my canopy camper

Just got mine! Thx to you for sharing this with us, I am so excited to sleep on it. I just scored it at REI with my dividend and a 20% off coupon.
YES! Dude, I am telling you its next level! I've got the pillows on the way to try out too, very excited!
Just ordered one of these for my sleeping Deck area inside my 4Runner. Might also order for the Alu Cab as well. Nice video👍
Dude your going to absolutely love it!
thanks for the video, i too have an FJ with alucab rtt. Im definitely getting this.
Dude. Your gonna wonder how you ever slept on the factory mattress.
Really nice job on this
Thanks Craig, I appreciate that bud!
I have an FSR evolution tent 49in wide. My air mattress was 52inch and is a bit too wide so I might gamble with a 50in if it’s soft and compressible!
It would be worth the gamble. It’s soft enough foam that I doubt you’ll have any problems with that 1” in the width.

2011 fj cruiser with alu cab 3.0. I will look into the mat
It’s incredible. It’s become a guest bed at the house when people visit as well. We throw it on a box frame and people love it.
