Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart were perfect for their respective roles. Particularly McKellen’s smarmy attitude, and the way he delivers certain lines. Chef’s kiss
True Story: during the fight scene between Wolverine and Mystique Hugh Jackman accidentally stabbed Rebecca Romijn’s stunt double in the thigh, he was horrified and repeatedly apologized but the stuntwoman was actually bragging proudly that she got stabbed by Wolverine.🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact: The fight scene between Mystique and Wolverine was choreographed by Ke Huy Quan, Short-Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data from The Goonies. Of course, also the best actor Oscar winner from Everywhere, Everywhere All at Once (2022)
He controls electromagnetics, which our brains have a form of when our neurons and synapses fire off while thinking. He can probably feel some distortion when the professor reads his mind. Or they were just good enough friends that he knew when Charles got quiet that meant he was reading a mind or minds, and he was trying to figure out Magneto’s plan in hopes of thwarting it before it happened.
Kevin Feige was an Associate Producer for this movie. He would tuft up Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine hair in between takes, to make sure it was more pointy 😂😂
Fun Fact: Before this movie was made, Magneto’s helmet in the comics was PURELY for decoration and had no use at all, but one of the writers David Hayter (aka the voice of Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid) suggested that Magneto’s helmet should protect him from all telepathic abilities. Because he actually asked a question that for some reason in over 30 years of comic history, none of the comic writers ever had an answer for, “What’s to stop Charles Xavier from just using his powers to stop Magneto during a fight?”.
Fun Fact : Dougray Scott was supposed to play Wolverine but few weeks before shooting, he had to drop out due to schedule conflict with Mission Impossible 2. Then, under the recommendation of Russell Crowe (who was also considered to be Wolverine), Hugh Jackman was cast as a last minute replacement for the character. Many people doubted him at first because of his height and he wasn't a big name when he was cast. Glad that he managed to prove everyone that he is the Wolverine that the big screen deserves, the rest was truly history in the making. Awesome to know that after 24 years, Jackman is still very commited to this role 🙌
Ke Huy Quan was the fight coordinator for this movie! Getting roles was pretty difficult at this time. So using his martial arts background helped him out to at least get behind the scenes work in Hollywood.
I abhorred that line every time, but recently read that they took out some one Toad’s lines from earlier in the movie that made it make sense. (Copied) In the original script Toad would make lines like "you know what happens when a toad wants food?" and then he'd eat a guy or whatever. "You know what happens when a toad is in a hurry?" And then he jumps really far, etc, etc, etc. And then when Storm finally fries him the joke makes sense because she's mocking his own catchphrase. But of course it sounds horrible as is because they left out the first half of the joke.
It's also one of two Joss Whedon lines that got carried over from numerous scripts and drafts. The other being, "you're a dick".... according to Whedon, it was supposed to be delivered sarcastically.. of which Halle did not do lol so a lot of factors here
58:53 Wolverine, Jean Grey and Cyclops's love triangle lifted directly from the comics and the animated series. It's a whole thing with Wolverine wanting her, her somewhat wanting him but never giving in to those feelings.
Always thrilling when someone hasn’t seen ANY of these. Can’t wait to rewatch X2 with these 2. I know them so well it’s totally engaging seeing how they hold up.
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was everything for me as a kid growing up😭 now seeing it always makes me wish they did more for the team like how 97 does so Im excited for whatever this new take will be!!
In my personal opinion, Storm is severely underrated. Marvel downplays her a lot. She’s a literal GODDESS. I get that there’s only so much they can showcase but come on, they could’ve shown a bit more of what she’s capable of. The whole Storm vs Toad showdown should’ve been way more in Storm’s favor. He kicked her around like she isn’t Mother Nature herself.
Nobody remembers Anna Paquin as Rogue. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of 11 for her role in The Piano in 1994, making her the second youngest Oscar winner
Fun Fact, and one that I’m really surprised Andrew didn’t know/say, the cop who discovers Mystique “this one’s still alive” is the one and only David Hayter, our beloved Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series. Who also wrote the screenplay for this, X-2 (I believe) and Watchmen. It’s only 3-4 seconds, but that is indeed him

The “Toad struck by lightning” zinger is a leftover from Joss Whedon’s punch-up rewrites. He added a runner where Toad would share “Toad facts” to taunt the X-Men while using his powers. “Did you know a Toad’s tongue can extend…Did you know a Toad’s legs can generate a force equal to…” et cetera. And in this opening we establish EVERYTHING we need to know about Magneto, and why he does what he does. Some of the most concise and moving storytelling in cinema.
So nice to revisit where it all began. And especially to see how Hugh Jackman simply IS wolverine, from the first second on. So stoked for Deadpool vs Wolverine :D
I think Wolverine vs Freddy Krueger would be an interesting fan-fiction. Like, obviously Wolverine would destroy Freddy, but what if Freddy is able to damage Wolverine in his nightmares? 🤔 Wolverine has a lot of trauma from the past that could totally be used against him
For Andrew: While Dougray Scott lost his X-Men role to Hugh Jackman due to his stunt injury during Mission Impossible 2, Hugh Jackman lost the Pirates of the Caribbean role written for him & named after him, to Johnny Depp!!

He’s not a wolf, tho. At all. Wolverines are in the badger family. A tough, lethal animal with huge claws. Nothing-in any way whatsoever-like a wolf. Hugh Jackman didn’t know til after filming the 1st movie, either🤭
Here’s a cool little Easter egg the truck driver that dropped off rogue in Alaska at Laughlin city is the guy who played beast in the original X-Men cartoon and now X-Men 97
Cant remember about the movies but magneto can control magnetism in general, so he just kinda bends any magnetic pull to his will, thats why he can fly.
I’m a huge x - men nerd and Logan wolverine is my all time favorite superhero on X-MEN aka DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE was everything I wanted and more as a comic nerd and superhero fan I felt like a kid again watching it in in theaters
27:29 in the comics magneto pulled all the adamantium off his skeleton which actually made him stronger because it was like a limiter for his animalistic senses so he basically became a beast
Thanks for doing this. I was going to do a rewatch myself but have seen these movies so many times it's much preferable to watch with you guys. I still think that the 1st scene of this movie is the best scene in any of the Fox X-men.
This movie was awesome to me - I read lots of marvel comics and their story lines were epic; well developed and satisfyingly synchronized amongst all their characters - thanks
I’m jealous of Tara.. wish I could watch this for the first time again.. been waiting since this movie for the yellow suit though, so excited for Deadpool and Wolverine!!!!
I watched the animated series every Saturday morning, ever since it premiered in 1992. I never missed an episode, and it got me into comic book stores. When this movie came out in the summer of 2000, I remember my friends and I were so excited. I remember it reminded me of the excitement I had at the age of five, just before going in to see Batman in the theater in 1989. Walking into the theater, I thought to myself, "I'm actually about to see an X-men movie." These movies didn't come out as frequently back then as they do now, so as a fan, this wasn't just a movie. For me and my friends, it was an event.

Magneto had metal in his boots/shoes…..the scene where he rips the train apart to get Rogue, as he lands they show a close up of the boots.
THIS MOVIE IS 24 YEARS OLD... WTF IM OLD
X2 came out when i was in 7th grade.....
I was in my 20's when it came out 😅
I was only 10
Thanks for doing this. I was going to do a rewatch myself but have seen these movies so many times it's much preferable to watch with you guys.
I still think that the 1st scene of this movie is the best scene in any of the Fox X-men.
Hope they go through the whole series, I need Tara’s reaction to all of the X-men
This movie was awesome to me - I read lots of marvel comics and their story lines were epic; well developed and satisfyingly synchronized amongst all their characters - thanks
I’m jealous of Tara.. wish I could watch this for the first time again.. been waiting since this movie for the yellow suit though, so excited for Deadpool and Wolverine!!!!
WOAH no idea this was coming holy cow I’m excited!!!
Oh man, Tara is in for a whole ride!!
I love your reactions to the Men of X!!!
28:20 Wanda did this exact same thing in Wanda vision like father like daughter.
Great interview, being a fan, I was glued from beginning to end!!
Thanks!
I’ve never watched the videos you two together. This should be fun. !
The truck driver that dropped rogue off is the voice of beast in the original animated series
I love Andrew he's so cute. I love all the facts 🥰🥰
