yeeeessssss this was huge in the UK other songs by them are Good Thing and Johnny Come Home
Huge here also
Also “Don’t Look Back”! My favorite song from them.
Also, their version of “Suspicious Minds” is pretty amazing too.
Roland Gift is a... gift.
Johnny Come Home is a banger
Forgot to mention, this song was huge in the US too. It was constantly on the radio and I’m pretty sure it hit #1 here.
they were massive in Australia too. Speaking of massive, how about a massive attack
Their version of Suspicious Minds is beautiful, gotta say.
Yeah that’s real good
Oh, yes! 💜💜💜
One of the best covers ever
Yes!
Oh I need to check it out!😲
This song was HUGE when it came out.
The singer is Roland Gift. When I was a postman I delivered to his house, never met him though.
When i was younger I listened to him singing, never met him though.
Lots of people I’ve met over the years that never sang,
..but some did and they’re singing was not to my liking.
Huge talent
I had such a crush on him
he was also an actor and appearred in a recurring role in highlander:the series
I know all these 80s bops thanks to my mom. I heard this song dozens of times growing up. The 80s really had their own vibe.
Same. My mom listened to these guys, Cher, Phil Collins, Heart, Tina Turner, Bryan Adams, and pretty much any other 80's singer out there.
The lead singer was an awesome villain on the tv show Highlander back in the 90s.
Yes, Xavier St. Cloud!
There can be only one! ; )
FYC also appeared in the movie Tin Men (the main actors being Danny Devito and Richard Dreyfus).
Osumarko, OMG YES! I had completely forgotten that. Pure awesomeness 😁
Wow..never noticed..👏👏
I love this song!!!! I've been married 50 yrs. and sometimes my husband will sing this phrase to me. LOLOL.
That's so cute! 😊😍💞 I just love that!
So funny! My little sister is also named Tina H. 😄✌
HOW SWEET 🧁 , & CONGRATS FOR 50 YRS OF 👰 ❤️🤵 🙌🙌
Roland Gift, the singer, was fantastic as the immortal Xavier St. Cloud in the Highlander TV series.
What about Fitzcairn
@@johnnypickens9228 Too soon, man. Too soon. 😢

FACTS
I remember that ,so true
There was once a band called "The Beat" otherwise known in America as "The English Beat" they still remain one of my favorite all-time bands. I would consider them a ska band. When they broke up their members went on to form both General Public and Fine Young Cannibals, both groups also produced some really great music. This concludes today's history of great '80s bands.
Thanks for the history :)
I used to love The Beat and their song Mirror in the Bathroom. RIP to Ranking Roger too. I think it is time Jay reacted to more British Ska. I also want him to react to The Selector - On My Radio.
@@denisemeredith2436 "I Confess" was my fav and they did an amazing cover of "Tears Of a Clown".
A favorite song of mine is "Save It For Later." I wish they had stayed together and released many more albums.
I'm a ska-punk drummer. Thats the band that taught me how to play the style! And, even though I'm from Virginia, USA, I will immediately get "fight or flight" when I hear the words 'The English Beat'. Haha!
Thats THE fuckin' BEAT, man!!! 🕴🕴🕴🕴🕴🕴😎
Another good one of theirs was good thing.
Yeah Good Thing IMO is much better!
I also like Good Thing more, might be due to just how much air time Drives Me Crazy got back in the day.
Good Thing is definitely my favorite
Really love their take on "Suspicious Minds" as well.
Good thing, good beat!
This is just one of those iconic songs that defines an era.
I love his voice. 💜💜💜
“Johnny Come Home”
“Suspicious Minds”
“Good Thing”
The lead singers voice makes this group great!
Suspicious Minds is a favourite of mine. Roland was so underrated... So TOTALLY underrated !!
2true!!!
He's not dead!!
No one said he was dead !
@@pippasbm 😂 I thought you were talking about him in the past tense!!
@@thomassmith2227 OH No Never. I want that man to live forever !! :P
"Ever fallen in love" by The Fine young cannibals.
Laurie Barrett. A great choice. Brilliant song.
Absolutely! I can listen to this song every day and never get tired of it! And, it’s a remake! Sorry but it’s way better than the OG
Good choice but you HAVE to do The Buzzcocks version first
Yaas! This middle aged woman is lovin your songs! Good choice! How 'bout "Close to You" Maxi Priest!!
That is a great underrated song!
Yes! It’s a great song
Please please please react to this
Oh yes and also 'How Can We Ease The Pain'
Zumbagirl your taste in music Is perfect.
Wishing Well - Terence DArby
Yes! 💜
YES YES YES!!! 🎶🎵
Yesss!
Yesss!!
He was one of the greatest artist of all time until he performed live at the Grammys. 😂
Absolutely love this track!! Always picks you up when you listen to it!! A huge hit in the UK.
I still love his voice, and still I want to dance to this in clubs, no matter how old I get!
Thanks for bringing my teen years back with this song.
Offshoot band of The English Beat (or, as the actual fans of the band know it... The Beat). You should check them out too. You'll dig 'em.
Mirror in the bathroom
It's funny, this song reminded me of a song I used to love during the 90's, but I could not for the life of me remember the name of the band or the song, all I had was a vague notion that it was called "London" something, then I saw your comment and read "The Beat" and it suddenly hit me, "Londonbeat", with the song "I've been thinking about you". Man have not heard that song since the 90's, so thx for helping out, however unintentional it was :)
Edit: lmao, and now I see just a few comments below yours was Iris E's comment that explicitly says: "Next: Londonbeat - I’ve been thinking about you."
@@richardkeating3575 SOMEONE knows whats up!!! 😎
General Public was great too.
@@TheOdMan isn't that magic! Yes, yes it is! Happens 2 me 2 n I love when it does!
FYC -- brilliant band! Both their albums were on heavy rotation in college. They still sound fantastic.
"Johnny Come Home" is a great song - one of our big drinking songs in college. Also off their first album, their cover of Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds" was a hit. Also from this, their second and last album, "Good Thing" is another banger with a killer piano solo by Jools Holland. FYC was formed after the band 'The Beat' (The English Beat to those of us in the US) broke up and guitarist Andy Cox and bassist David Steele recruited Roland Gift to sing. Would love for you to do some English Beat sometime too. You'll love them - they were one of the bigger second wave ska bands, along with The Specials (the band that Terry Hall who wrote "Our Lips Are Sealed" for The Go Go's" is from). Thanks!
Peace from SF
This song was huge, on the radio all the time along with "Good Thing" (which you simply must watch, also great).
This song was huge when it hit. I played it over and over and over again and all my friends did too.
Londonbeat "I have been thinking about you"
I'm so glad you reacted to the song. Haven't seen or heard this in years. I was 11 years old when this came out. My dad and I both loved it. When I got on his nerves he'd sing "you drive me crazy. "" We would both laugh. Good memories.
Lovely story!❤
Thanks.
Cute
@@Paldasan thank you
Oh Roland Gift, I had such a crush on him!
Yup, I voted for this one ! This is off their first album which is awesome...♡
Londonbeat, 'I Been Thinking About You'. One of my favorites.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember when they first brought a song out every girl fancied him, brilliant voice as well.
Can you imagine all us teenage girls watching this guy sing this on tv .... we just melted 😍 Still love this !!
Such a good song! They're ''I'm not the man I used to be'' another good one but they've done sooooooooo many great songs!
Love For Sale!
Offshoot of the English Beat. Check out their song "Mirror in the Bathroo.".
Steele and Cox are from The Beat, but not Gift. New band, new sound, so I don’t think I’d call it an offshoot.
Roland Gift has a surprisingly DEEP voice. The first time my friends and I saw him interviewed we were blown away! He's also a pretty good actor. Check him out as Xavier Saint Cloud in the Highlander TV series.
Hey if you love the 80s here's a couple of more gems.
Dan Hartman - I can dream about you.
Wang Chung - dance hall days
Oh yea dance hall days❤
Dance hall days
Do both!
All American, Hells yeah! I was listening to I Can Dream About You just last week. 80's gold, love this stuff. Except for the fact that it reminds me I'm 40 now lol 😂
Dance hall days...what a banger!!!
Great band, fantastic song, and great to hear it again!! Fun reaction, too!
Good to see the T Shirt. A fitting tribute to the passing of Gerry.
" I'm not the man I used to be " by FYC is also worth an enthusiastic mention.
I'd forgotten this one and I have so enjoyed your reactions to them. Its what I used to say to children when they wouldn't tidy their rooms and we would all end up singing away lol. Take care and stay safe please everyone, I pray you are all well and getting through the tough times the world is going through. God bless you all love hugs and peace to everyone Mary-Ellen UK
I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it. Got a thing for the snare sound; one of my adult kids found an article on this song and the thing that makes the snare pop is the fact that the drummer discarded his sticks and used a wooden ruler (like you use in school) instead. It worked!!! 😉
Loved this Group back in the day, they had some cracking songs. He had such a good voice
Love this song.....good memories! So glad someone requested it, haven't heard it in a long time.
Loved Fine Young Cannibals back in the day! My favorite song of theirs was Good Thing...they also had another great song Johnny Come Home. They had great hooks on their songs and they run through your head over and over.
This was one of my absolute favorite childhood songs 🥺
It was everywhere 😂😂
Also check out Johnny Come Home and Good Thing by them.
Johnny Come Home is brillant
I remember back in the day a lot of girls wearing FYC shirts.
Not knowing that the members were gay!
this song could've been released yesterday and it would've charted immediately. this band makes timeless music fr
One of my favorite songs in Jr. High. Thanks.
if its on the radio....i'm singing.
I remember watching the lead singer of this group on an episode of “The Highlander” TV series. He lost his head in the episode, literally! I loved that show!
Definitely 80s. That sound and the great video entertainment production and styling.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time, makes me feel nostalgic even though I wasn't alive when it was released.
My ringtone for my wife, in jest. Takes me back to after a day of skiing Breckinridge, they were blasting this at the Mountain house.
I’m totally telling my hubby to make this his ringtone for me! Ha!
@@jenniferkasowicz9463 People always get a kick out of the ring tone when she calls!
I was Junior in high school when this song came out. Loved It!!! Enjoyed your reaction
Back in the day when people did ringtones this was a popular ringtone
This guy can sing... this was huge when I was a kid... I mean this was played non stop.... catchy hooks... I loved it !!! Freaking Pop Classic.... wonder whatever happened to this band....
She drives me crazy....brings me back! Good pick 👏
The name comes from a 1960s movie called All the Fine Young Cannibals starring Natalie Wood & Robert Wagner
Ever Fallen in Love and Suspicious Minds are another 2 great songs by them.
Fun fact: the singer had a recurring role as a villain on the Highlander tv series starring Adrian Paul
The English Beat /"Mirror In The Bathroom".
Yes!! 😁💯
Your reactions are fun, that's why I keep coming back😁
Thank you
Same here! Jay is addictive 😎😉
The Raw & the Cooked, one of the great albums of the 80's.

This song is ultimately my favourite since I was 5! I love this song... love love love. Always gives me goosebumps and good mood ❤️
A fantastic song. It was a massive hit in the UK.
ya gotta listen to their song Johnny Come Home. Ska with some trumpet.
They're from my home city of Birmingham, England. I've only discovered this song properly now.
I love this song.because the beat is infectious! This was a huge hit in the eighties! ❤️❤️
The 80's had the BEST MUSIC hands down. There was a plethora of UNIQUE ARTIST with REAL TALENT. In any genre, can't say that today.
You have to listen to a great Scottish artist called Paolo Nutini. Iron sky is amazing song and also Better man. I promise you won’t be disappointed
good but the guy off the uk voice blows it out of the water .
Amazing singer, amazing song
@@chrisbayliss3532 That is a ridiculous comment. He did a great cover. But it was just a cover. It’s Paolo’s song and he has an amazing voice. The original and the best
Particularly his live version on unplugged, amazing.
"Johnny came home", "Good things", "Suspicious minds" (Elvis cover), "The flame".
But check out also:
New Order - Blue Monday, True faith
Marillion - Kayleigh
T'Pau - Heart and soul
Adam Ant - Strip
Spandau Ballet - Be free with your love
The System - The pleasure seekers
Camouflage - Love is a shield
Marc Almond - Tears run rings
The lead singer was a recurring immortal bad guy on the TV show The Highlander starring Adrian Paul. The theme song was Queen's Princes of the Universe from the movie 'The Highlander' starring Christopher Lambert. Queen did all of the music for the movie.
Good choice. This song was HUGE back in the day - and it still sounds fresh today. That's because goods music is timeless!
I loved this when it came out! In fact I still do!
My fave by them is I’m not the Man I used to be...also Good Thing.
The Cult is a must the song Fire woman 🔥🔥🔥
Or “She Sells Sanctuary”
Or “Rain”
Or “Love Removal Machine”
But I’d be happy with “Fire”.
💜
Oh wow. Had almost forgotten this song. ty for giving me a blast from the past. :)
I love love LOVE THIS SONG! I remember, when I was a teeny tiny little thing, this being the first ever song I took notice of on the radio and would insist on turning it up and dancing around the kitchen...EVERY TIME!! And it's still a flippin' banger!!
Oh congrats on the 130k
Thank you
First! Hey Jovaughn! This is a goodie!! ❤️🌟✌️
1989... what a great summer as a 9 year old seeing this video on MTV and hearing the song everywhere I went.
Thank you, I requested a while back & appreciate you reacting to this. I loved the "Fine Young Cannibals"
You got it! There's nothing like that person who just hearing their voice makes your heart skip!
I can't stop the way I feel
Things you do don't seem real
Tell me what you've got in mind
'Cause we're running out of time
Won't you ever set me free?
This waiting 'round's killing me
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I can't help myself
I can't get any rest
People say I'm obsessed
Everything you say is lies
But to me there's no surprise
What I had for you was true
Things go wrong, they always do
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I can't help myself
I won't make it on my own
No one likes to be alone
I love how you are vibing with this song! I loved this song, my mama liked this song, grandma liked this song. This song was everywhere when it came out 🥰
Watched them live a few years ago, still just as good!
Good impression brother, love this song.
Flashbacks - wow - This was G7 on the jukebox....lol
I once read that Roland Gift was hired as the lead singer of the band as soon as he showed up to the audition and even before he got to sing , because the other members liked the way he looked.
You are such a likable guy!! I can see why you have such a huge following :) Love watching your reactions, man
These guys were from my home city of Hull 😀
Really? I'm from Hull too, and I didn't know that.
@@Richard-Bullock Well, Roland Gift, the singer was, not sure about the rest of the band.
Use to hang out with Paul Heaton and fat boy slim in sillouttes night club Hull, when my mate was the resident dj
@@michaelgollagher3351 Cool. I had many a drunken night in Sils.
I have always loved this song great pick. Check out Devil Inside by INXS
That is soooooooooooooooooooooooo how we reacted to it when it came out. You gotta move. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Ancient history: When this song came out I was working backstage on a musical. Every night after the performance cast and crew would end up at the same bar, get a beer, and and play this song on the jukebox over and over and over and over again, dancing all the while. I can't imagine why the other patrons didn't complain. Maybe there were too many of us :)
When I think of that musical I don't think of the show tunes I think of this song
I was 17 yrs old in 1988 when I first heard this song, I won't lie the lead singer kinda spooked me out a little the way his facial expression looked singing this song lol! I loved the beat of this song back then. #80s4life ❤💜
Hadn't seen this video for a while, but as soon as I saw it, it called to mind another video because of the choreographing similarities. You should watch "True Faith" by New Order, because both of these videos have the same director and choreographer, Philippe Decouflé.
Thank you! I was wondering why the video looked so much like True Faith!
Check out their song, "Don't Look Back"
You may have heard Cam Anthony, the winner of The Voice US 2021, perform this song on the grand finale show, along with his coach, Blake Shelton. Cam is only 19 years old and he admitted that he had never heard the song before it was presented to him.
Fine Young Cannibals (FYC) were a British pop rock band formed in 1984 in Birmingham, England - by bassist David Steele, and guitarist Andy Cox (both formerly of The Beat), as well as singer Roland Gift (formerly of the Akrylykz).
Their self-titled 1985 debut album contained "Johnny Come Home" and a cover of the Mark James 1968 song "Suspicious Minds" - which was later covered by Elvis Presley in 1969.
Those two songs were top 40 hits in the UK, Canada, Australia and many European countries.
Their 1989 album, “The Raw & the Cooked”, topped both the UK and US album charts, and contained their two US Billboard Hot 100 chart number one singles: "She Drives Me Crazy" and "Good Thing".
In 1990, the band won two Brit Awards: Best British Group, and Best British Album (the
latter of which was for their 1989 album “The Raw & the Cooked”).
Their name came from the 1960 film All the Fine Young Cannibals - starring
Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood.
