What also makes this more sad, is that as Curly's mentality deteriorated from the effects of the stroke, he was bouncing from different hospitals to care for him. They refused him because he became difficult to care. And Moe refused to give up, he made sure his brother was going to be cared for until his passing. Moe was the greatest brother to him, and Curly was fortunate to have spent his final yet painful moments with him.
In the weeks before Curlys death, Moe had to pause from filming "He Cooked His Goose" in order to move Curly to another Sanatorium. It's one of my favourite shorts "Moe You might fall .....I hope" "Blitzen is in the kitchen, Dancer has got the Answers in his Pantzers" Classic
Moe truly was a loving and caring brother to Curly. When Curly was 13, he accidentally shot himself in the leg with his father’s gun while cleaning it. Moe immediately rushed him to the hospital and he was saved. As adults, Moe straightened out Curly’s finances and even helped him remember his lines in future episodes, during Curly’s final years!!!
Curly was NOT fired. After his stroke, he was in a wheelchair and couldn’t do much. He did regain some of his strength, but he wasn’t able to perform again. All the years of drinking caught up to him. So sad he died so young.
@bigwillietheb I personally liked Larry, then Moe and then Curly. But Curly was really amazing as his role of one of the Stooges. Doesn't make him any less of a brilliant comedic actor just because he isn't my first favourite.
This scene is very heartbreaking seeing Curly all limped from the stroke what these guys went through really wore them out and of course, Hollywood itself was and still is very hard on people who become famous
The most touching scene of the movie to me is when curly returns home to the hotel and the arrogant couples start poking him in the eye. I don't know if that actually happened but it's heartbreaking nonetheless. Thank you for commenting!
@@kevincorcoran6493 I'm not sure if that particular incident actually happened but there were several incidents where Curly and the other Stooges were attacked by starstruck fans, including one time where a nine-year-old boy hit them over the head with a cane. Also, 1944 was the year where Curly's drinking and poor self care really got out of hand and began to take its toll on his health. In early 1945 he finally agreed to see a doctor, and was diagnosed with hypertension, obesity, and a retinal hemorrhage, and suffered a mild stroke which affected his performance, followed by a bigger stroke in 1946 during the filming of Half-Wits Holiday (though it actually happened during a break in filming and most of the film had been completed save for the pie fight scene at the end), after which he retired from the Stooges.
Story goes they had the tarp out and everything all set up to do the pie fight scene, everyone got called to the set, Curly didn't answer, Moe went looking for him and found him sitting in Jules White's chair slumped over and in tears. More quietly told Jules, Curly was taken to the hospital and they re-worked the scene. Immediately after they finished Moe went to the hospital to visit his brother. Jules said afterwards in hindsight he should have seen it coming cause Curly was really struggling to remember his lines that day. Curly often had trouble remembering lines but on that day it was especially bad. So sad the short they did right before that "Three little Pirates" is considered one of Curly's best performances almost made you think he was going to recover but turned out to be his last great performance.
They were both great as Moe and curly respectively. And of course in other projects that they have done. Thank you for commenting! PS I think Evan Handler did a decent Larry as well.

A sad scene but not 100% accurate. While Curly’s deteriorating health did end his career, it was hoped that following his major stroke during “Half Wits Holiday” he would recover enough to rejoin the group with Shemp being a temporary replacement. At first he would recover enough to have a cameo in the stooge short “Hold That Lion” (the only time Moe, Shemp, and Curly along with Larry appeared together in a Three Stooges Short). Unfortunately he never regained his skills and mobility enough to return to the act. The chipping in of their salary towards his care along with Curly signing away his rights was done so money could be held for Curly’s health care and estate management. Curly actually had a happy post Stooge life. He regrew his hair back, remarried, and had a baby daughter and despite having limited mobility led a peaceful few more years. Sadly he suffered a second major stroke and died soon after. This scene here may have depicted him in his final stage of life in 1952 after he was moved to a Sanatorium.
