This is not how the last meeting with JFK was portrayed in the movie "NIXON." In the movie he tells Haldeman that kennedy reamed him out for keeping the Bay of Pigs plan secret from him and then called him, "A two bit grocery clerk from Whittier."

My Dad was stationed at Torrejon A.F.B. just outside Madrid, Spain as a civilian personnel officer when JFK was killed. It was 8 days before my 10th birthday and I remember being terrified that Lee Harvey Oswald was going to shoot me through the window at night! The drums are especially somber . . . yet strangely enough become glorious when the brass and melody kick in, all in perfect synchronicity. Still gives me goose bumps to this day. I have AWAYS wondered - WHO IS THAT SAILOR THAT CARRIED the PRESIDENTIAL FLAG?! Does anybody know? That was no small feat from what I can see.

In 1963 I was a Signal Corps lieutenant stationed at the NATO HQ in Naples. President Kennedy's last stop on his European visit was at the NATO HQ where he made some remarks. I had some involvement getting the PA system up and working and, details aside, I never recall seeing a Secret Service type even when I was roaming around the speakers platform just prior to Kennedy arriving. I never once was stopped, most likely because I was in uniform. Sure was a different world then.

I just found this when I was listening to other versions of Onward Christian Soldiers. The video had me nearly crying. I was 15 years old in 1963, and had just got home from somewhere. Mum was crying, and when I asked her what was wrong and she told me JFK had been assassinated, I cried with her. He was such an icon of the day, young and handsome, with such ideals for his country. I think that is when America started it's long slow downhill slide to what it is today. I visited the States in 1971, 1973 and 1976, and it was still a great country, respected by most of the world for what it had achieved during and after WW2. I'm Australian, and for many years after WW2, we were profoundly grateful to the Americans for stepping in after Pearl Harbour, and helping to finish off the Nazis and the Japanese. I hate to think where Australia would be now if the Japanese hadn't been stopped.
