I'm now 90 years old. I've been a fan and a supporter of CBC most of my adult life. In the last 10 years it has gone downhill and no longer provides a forum for the average listener, instead cherry picking what articles one can comment and dictating what can be viewed. They have become a joke and hopefully the President and senior staff will face the wrath of the Canadian public in the next election..

Catherine Tait sits on the CBC Board of Directors. The Board makes decisions on staff bonuses based on the performance metrics established by the Chief Executive Officer (Catherine Tait) and her direct reports. the CBC's Annual Report failed to provide the bonus criteria information I was looking for. Publicly traded companies provide details on executive bonuses to shareholders who ratify these decisions via proxy votes. Since the CBC gets most of its money from taxpayer subsidies, taxpayers should know if the CBC Board considered growth in advertising revenue and subscribers (metrics used by private sector competitors) as relevant performance criteria for executive bonuses.

What I saw (as a former CBC employee, I left in 1993 and did some sporadic freelancing with Mother Corp afterwards) was Catherine Tait running down the clock and only giving actual answers when she was cornered. In my humble opinion the English services have taken a nose dive over the past 15 or so years, and the population has shown this by the massive drop in viewership. After the loss of Hockey Night in Canada the CBC has never recovered and it's flailing along throwing taxpayer money at the problems it has, is the problem. Radio Canada is likely the only English CBC arm that has enough listeners to justify it's existence, and the French TV, Radio and Digital seem to have a decent viewership and also provides programing that can be sold to other parts of the World. The English side and the Corporate side need to be razed to the ground and either re-structured to suit the current climate or abolished and all it's assets sold off and the money returned to the Canadian People. With her performance yesterday I can only hope that Ms. Tait's days are numbered as the head of the CBC.

If "performance" is to be a metric for bonuses, clearly the taxpayer should be litigating to reclaim previous years. For an organization that championed the closure of the private sector while themselves getting surreptitious bonuses/handouts, the entire bloated conglomerate has rightfully exhausted its shelf life. If Que is enthusiastic about their French portion, then it will be able to survive in a capitalist market place. I really cant wait for Pierre to convert their premium office space on King street etc into a refugee warming centres seeing the CBC is so pro anything thats not white. All crown corporation employees should be only paid minimal wage. If you want to be paid more then get off public sector and get a real job.

That would encourage them to up the minimum wage. Might not be a terrible idea.

Cause that’s what government employees do. Anyone know how much it costs taxpayers to fund the CBC. About 5 billion. Do we need this?? What are their ratings?? Do people watch these stations. I say no.

i hope she doesn't get a bonus; look at her dress, make up, golden ring - she doesn't deserve a single penny from my pocket....and the smile on her face - she know she is getting one and smiles in everyone's face. what a state we are in nowadays. Controlled by Komsomolskaya Pravda - NKVD times....

I had to watch that 3 different time make sure I was hearing it correctly!
I don’t think she’s tone-deaf…I think she’s so self absorbed & entitled that she doesn’t know any better. I feel for her soul.

I don't understand the reason for CBC performance bonus's. The liberal leaders state views and report on matters and CBC, without question, repeats it verbatim thru radio, TV and online. My thinking is Trudeau should get the bonus as he is the one telling them what to report and telling them line by line what to report. Do you know how many news agencies in Canada are capable of providing this same service and for 1/3 the price ($400m).
