Exactly. Orwell was very clear on his intentions of writing 1984, and speaking on the concept of NEWSPEAK in it. It wasn't just an act that is observed in authoritarian states...but everywhere. And we see it in our own tax system. They call it the "Canada Revenue Agency", yet revenue is defined as:
"Revenue is the income generated from normal business operations." In other words, profits generated from the sale of commodities or services. If the government has revenue, then it needs not tax in the first place, as taxes are money taken from individual's earnings, and not income generated...That they created their own definition of "government revenue" in order to label it as such was no accident. It justifies them treating our taxes as if it is their profits they are entitled to.

If I had a small fraction of the money cbc gets for 1 year I would be able to make a business that could sustain me for life and never again needing subsidy. Harper was going to defund it in 2015 and Trudeau said he wouldn’t and the rest is history as they say. Harper also said that Funding to First Nations would be scrutinized closer while Trudeau said he wouldn’t do that, and the rest is history.

For any business or organization, it should be illegal to use government funds to give bonuses. Only actual profit should cover these.

I hope he wins, but I don't get why so many people assume he will. I mean, Castreau only needs 32-34% of the vote. We've seen it. The same people keep voting for him over and over and over, no matter what. I don't see how any of those people have gotten any less stupid since the last election.

I used to enjoy CBC, as I got what I would call 'neutral presenting'.....events and ideas were presented and what I thought about them was left to me to figure out. Now, not so much. When I listen to CBC radio, I feel as though I am being told what to think. So I stopped listening.

Honest question: Has a CEO of any major company, or their execs, ever NOT received a generous bonus? They create KPIs that ensure this. The system is broken. The stock market, is broken. CEOs blatantly inflate their share price using stock buybacks instead of sharing profits with their workers who helped generate the profits in the first place. Disgusting.

Private sector pays just as dirty a game of pool by buying back stocks instead of sharing $ with workers. They have even bought back stock with taxpayers $ during COVID. Horrible!
So true. So many examples out there. Take Hasbro for example, the company is not doing so well, fired 29% of staff last year to damage control, had to sell one of their acquisition (eONE) that was bleeding money, moved their figurines production to another company... but still CEO get 1.5 million salary and 8.5 million in compensation (more than he earned the previous years). These boards vote for their salary and few will vote for a lesser salary even if they are running the company in the dirt. It is like corruption in plain sight that almost everyone has accepted overtime as normal. This needs to change. I just don't know what could be done.
Key difference a private company goes bankrupt, the CBC just asks for more tax payer money and cannot go bankrupt and close. Private companys are using earned revenue to pay the bonuses, CBC uses tax money not earned but given. If CBC made a profit this would be a different conversation they cost money do not make money. At 63 I'm on a unpaid medical leave for over a year now suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. I have good days and really bad days too.
Never took any CERB and worked everyday during the pandemic. Although I WANT TO work I can't do fine motor skills with my hands, which has been difficult as I was a graphic designer working in the sign industry. Speech is difficult at times too. Fought my way walking and have good motor reflex in my legs and lower body, no real strength issues, just tire so damn fast.
I don't want pity, just some help working through the quagmire of getting financial assistance. Still I have to wait 120 days before this government will even look at long term disability, because seriously, who'd hire a 63 year old graphic designer/ production worker who can no longer perform the duties of a graphic designer/ production worker? ... where is the help!?!
Thanks to Mr.Brock's office at least someone is looking out for this Canadian.

Interesting! In my current role as a staff employee I have had two years where I was told my bonus will not be paid due to economic reasons. Despite having bonuses called out as a yearly thing in my employee contract I completely understand the reasoning. This person is totally arrogant and not interested in holding back her bonus. I say end her contract now!
