Probably the greatest player personnel guy in team sports history, not just the NBA. He built dynasties or semi-dynasties in the '60s, '70s, and '80s. Had the Celtics primed for another dynastic run in '90s if Len Bias and Reggie Lewis had lived.

Maybe the best coach in American sports. Just as good as Lombardi in my book.

Exactly, it was very sad what happened to Boston in 1986 summer, if Len Bias hadn't dead and the Reggie Lewis, the Celtics would be kings during another 10 years. I hope Celtics will be again like that, i hope some day that bad luck the had in 1986 come back to Boston. Boston deserve that.

He never shook the opponents hand. So Bird didn't either. Nor did Laimbeer
or The Pistons.Yet, Thomas gets crucified for it. Pretty American

He knew the game obviously but couldn't win a game of jacks until Russell was brought on board. Didn't want Cousy, got 'stuck' with him.Legend has it that he deliberately kept the visitors locker room cold. Couldn't fight his own battles either; Bragged during an interview how he baited Chamberlain & that Russell jumped in to protect him. Keep in mind that no one ever asked Russel to fight Ali. Wilt would've mangled Russell had he wanted to. His lighting of the 'Victory Cigar' was unclassy.
