I remember Jeff Van Gundy's comment during the 2011 playoffs. He said "Guys should really stop flopping. I think they should call a technical foul on flops and add a $10,000 fine so that they remember"
totally agree with you. he is the greatest coach of all time. knowing that he also chose his own players drafting and trading, he was also a very great executive. not phil jackson, but this guy is the best there ever is as of the moment.
this arrived at the nba, but was incubated in the amateur ranks. high school, college, internationally. in the mid-late sixties, seventies, early eighties, when people who played athletically were allowed to play, this flopping and under-cutting defensive method was instituted by coaches to have his team teach the other team a lesson. it's like punching a guy without getting in trouble. utah played this way with stockton and malone. the never won and i was glad for that.
Reggie Miller was a perfect example of how to suck fouls after the pump fake, then lean into the defender, just so he gets a foul for two more free throws. Worst of all, he was a great three point and free throw shooter, and he is so lanky, a simple bump will knock him out.
that comment was made 3 years ago, and today it is official! The NBA is going to start reviewing plays for flopping and they will fine floppers. Amazing news!
There has always been flopping, but it's really bad now. It's so rampant that it stands out in today's game. I heard someone says it's due to some of the rule changes the NBA has made. That's probably true. It's become very excessive in today's game. Much more obvious..and obviously fake (trying to draw fouls) than in previous eras.
This was a pretty neat old video. In hopes of getting a lawsuit, I'm thinking about flopping on a city bus after receiving some slight bit of contact from a fellow passenger. I would hit the floor and start groaning in pain. I'd then ask the bus driver if there is a trainer on the bus.
Even if you think he flops too much, that's ridiculous, Wade was a flopper before he got there, and you don't need to be taught how to flop, Refs in the NBA get fooled so easily, I could fool them with a flop
The guy who truly made flopping an art form was JERRY SLOAN! Wilt Chamberlain pointed this out years ago - Karl Malone scored about 7000 points on flopping, and he learned it from Sloan - the other guy was mchale - it's gotten so PATHETIC - the spurs are the current experts, ginobli turning into the flopping king - I can't even watch the NBA anymore because of this crap - it's turned the game into a joke
This is Red working the refs with this video. Which is funny cuz they Celtics at this time was getting home cooking on the road. They benefitted from all these BS calls
How bout tell Paul Pierce to take notes or Derek Fisher or maybe Westbrook, noo maybe Ginobili, my point is theres ALOT more people that flop waay more than LeBron, but ur hate for LeBron makes you blind not to see that
Not Phil Jackson? What would have Jackson won if he stayed with the Bulls? Auerbach stayed with the Celtics and rebuilt them himself again and again. 16 rings as a GM... he was way better than Jackson.
no flopping? Why would Red make an anti-flopping campaign if there weren't any flopping? Flopping has been part of the game for a long long time. Even Magic and Bird flopped. How is flagrant fouls bad? How the fuck is throwing an elbow to the face the same as unintentionally slapping someone's wrist in the act of shooting?

When your teams win championships like the Celtics did in that era, you command the respect of everyone in the NBA. Red was king.
great video watching those legends of the game telling us to "Man up"
they should show this video at EVERY halftime in the NBA
Red would slapped the flopping out of Marcus smart
Red would love it, because Smart is a Celtic. Now, everyone else.........! (LOL!)
Tom Heinsohn said multiple time that Red would have loved Marcus Smart
brilliant, red was so ahead of his time..talk about the goat
He was a real genius of his time too bad he Passed away too soon i would love to see him react to Marcus Smart
Lebron needs to watch this
Please some one forward this to all nba refs
totally agree with you. he is the greatest coach of all time. knowing that he also chose his own players drafting and trading, he was also a very great executive. not phil jackson, but this guy is the best there ever is as of the moment.
I love red and never even got to see him coach, where did the good people go
This needs to be seen by every one who plays basketball.
red is a cool dude khows that you have to respect the game
Makes me think that flopping was more of a problem during Auerbach's era than it is today.
Players back then aren't as tough as I thought.
"Players back then aren't as tough as I thought" and the joke of the century goes to Jake Plos, Congratulations.
It was around but to say there was more than today is laughable. Totally false.
Awesome video. Red Auerbach AND my beloved Washington Bullets? Beautiful.
Mike Krzyzewski has made flopping an art form at Duke.
red was 'the celtic's mystique'. probably a basketball genius.
The great Johnny Most used to call it the Stanislavski, after the Russian acting coach

you can bet red has never seen marcus flop! lol,me either
Mendy looks like, "Let me make this check before I go to the racetrack!"
This is an historically important video.
all wade did before lebron got here was act like he was hurt on the floor if he missed a lay up
everyone in the nba flops today. its sad.
Straight up gold
I wish there was a video on what Paul Peirce does why driving to the basket. Oh and Chauncey too.

old NBA, no flopping, harder to get assists, flagrants were just fouls, traveling was called..what has happened to the NBA.
Red was right ! No talking politics!
awesome video, i wish the NBA would review games and fine them for every blatant flop they do
Now the NBA will fine for flopping. About time.
that comment was made 3 years ago, and today it is official! The NBA is going to start reviewing plays for flopping and they will fine floppers. Amazing news!

He probably be mad at the whole league in general. He'd rip David Stern a new one.
But he'd praise the likes of Lebron, Kobe, and Dirk Nowitzki.
If they did that, a lot of star players would be losing out on tons of cash. :D
do u have the video of Red in a video tutorial with Bird, McHale, and another player?
Winning Basketball? I used to watch it everyday as a kid.
th-cam.com/video/Nq1Wwlv13ZE/w-d-xo.html
shit...i personally believe he taught the whole heat team how to flop
Too bad the league doesn't care about the game as much as Red did.
@stefanswe And Glen Davis, Anderson Varejao, Paul Pierce (MVP of flopping) and others.
@eDub5750 Good man! You played the game honestly and like a man!
LOL.. send this to every player in today's NBA
Spurs are near the bottom of the list in FT attempts, year after year.
08-09: last in FT attempts
07-08: 27th(out of 30)
Dwayne Wade should watch this...the man can play but jesus does he complain if he misses ANY shot.
Vlade Divac faints!
larry was basketball jesus.... red was basketball god

when basketball was real and men were men
Even if you think he flops too much, that's ridiculous, Wade was a flopper before he got there, and you don't need to be taught how to flop, Refs in the NBA get fooled so easily, I could fool them with a flop
they never played this way in the aba. as for the nba, this style of play robbed us of elgin baylor.
Take notes, LeBron
Ironic that the NBA put out this video when they're the ones guilty of looking the other way in terms of flopping.
hate the game not the player. When I was playing I was doing the same because it was what help my team to win. It's basketball not gymnastic
old school baby
Red lived in my neighborhood and went to my high school
Are you from Eastern District High, in Brooklyn?
The guy who truly made flopping an art form was JERRY SLOAN! @stefanswe Anderson Varejao please.
Genobili, Horry, Artest , Rodman, and Divac havent seen this video so there is no dislikes yet.
Lulz, Lebron is on his way to being the GOAT, he doesn't even flop that often
Lebron and Harden hate this video😂
it is not ginobili, or varejao or divac fault. it's referee's fault, they call the foul ffs.
oh and lastly im gonna line this to Paul Pierce' twitter.
@eDub5750 Good for you, sounds like your coach is a control freak.
Always thought flopping was dumb!
Grey Valentine flopping is part of the game now...
Unfortunately
this one is for chris bosh
This is Red working the refs with this video. Which is funny cuz they Celtics at this time was getting home cooking on the road. They benefitted from all these BS calls

yeah he flops, but not that much compared to others in the league.
this is why ginobili sucks!
