    you know it's old when they call the finals the "world series of basketball"

      That's from the days of the late, great announcer Johnny Most! Today, it's just called "The Finals", but in his day it was "The World Series of Basketball".

      It was a tradition. He would never relax until he was sure the game was won. When he would "light one up", you KNEW this game was over!

      Today, something like that would result in a technical foul on the bench.

      Most of their rings came from the 50's and 60's with lesser/weaker competition.

      +HipHopLover93 R&BLover93 A ring is a ring. Times were different then and I wouldn't call a lot of those teams weak competition.

    • @DeedsResearcher
      @DeedsResearcher 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct! Every player had to complete 4 years of college before becoming eligible for the NBA draft. Thus, they had 4 years in which to hone their skills, and came into the NBA as much more complete players! Every player who was drafted was also an All American, whereas today we see a lot of KIDS.....right out of high school... coming to the NBA. Then their are those "one and done" kids who say they will attend college for 4 years, but come out after their Freshman year. They still have much to learn about the game... and about life...before going into the NBA grind of an 82 game season.

    • @hiphoprbloverjon9180
      @hiphoprbloverjon9180 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Terce They were weak competition. Only played 8 teams and most of the guys playing were factory workers while the Celtics had all the HOF players. Overrated dynasty.

    • @DeedsResearcher
      @DeedsResearcher 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's nonsense! Every player drafted in the first round or two was an All-American or nearly so. They all had 4 years of college coaching and experience, so they were far more mature than the CHILDREN who are coming into the NBA today. And most important, they had their college degrees so they had something to fall back on when their playing days were over.As one example, the number of palming violations is enormous today, whereas it was rare in the days of Cousy and Russell, etc etc. The trouble is that the refs are just not calling it like they used to, and that lets the players think they are getting away with something.

    Today lighting a cigar results in a technical foul on the bench and Adam Silver would be assessing a huge fine on the first coach or player that lights up a cigar on the court.
