There is a lot of wrong info here. This method is NOT APPLICABLE for all keyboards. You can only do this in keyboards which are hot swappable. Trying this stunt on a soldered switch will make your problem 100 times worse! Also, you don't need that screwdriver tool. If your keeb is hot swappable, there's a 90% chance it came with a switch puller. Use that instead.
It’s good practice to use a wired keycap puller and also to use a proper switch puller, you can damage the pins on the switch or the socket if you don’t use a proper tool , also not all keyboards have the feature to pull out switches (hotswap), for most keyboards the easiest way to make sure your keyboard isn’t just confusing keys is to factory reset it, it’s usually fn + space
Make sure your keyboard is Hot-Swappable! If it is not you can damage the while board if the switch is soldered (it is melted into the board and if you want to remove it you have to heat up the metal holding the pins in place)
Man... You saved me from returning a product and waiting another week just to get a new one. It was the switch that was the issue for me. I switched it with another (mine is hotswappable) that is useless which I don't use. I never thought about switching it with another switch on the keyboard. Tytytyty!
I had a bad switch on my space key on my mechanical 20 days after i bought the keyboard. I got the idea of swapping keys on my own without watching this. Smart is as smart does.
If you can get it out then it's hotswappable if you can't then it's soldered if you wanna know if a keyboard can be hotswapped then look at the info of the keyboard on thr buying page it should say hotswappable if it can be hotswapped
Imagine a kid trying this out on his non hotswappable mechanical keyboard but dude pls research first before trying to "help" people in the internet because others might break their keyboard trying this method
As a programmer, I wouldn't suggest you use switches keys in the f row as replacement, I'd suggest you use keys like pause, scroll lock, page up/down, or even insert as these I've noticed are used much less. The f row keys are still essential for operating system stuff (I don't use windows so I don't remember important f row key binds for windows).
i saw some people make fun of this but i can't believe i never thought of this, sure if you have multiple keys broken this is not a good fix but i had just one broke and found it a waste to buy a whole new keyboard. i just swapped the switch with the one on the print screen button and it works wonders
tysm bro, some of my keyboard button wasnt working because i spell over my water bottle but then i tried to swap the unworking one to the button that i rarely use just like u said and now its start working again :D
Would dabbing with a cotton swab do? Have a key oard that the W key won't input sometimes and just left it in a corner of the house cus I wasn't dealing with it
Try cleaning your keyboard first, take off your keycaps and also use an anti-duist spray directly on the switch, make sure to keep the spray straight so it doesn't create damp and wet up the switches that might result in actually breaking it.
The reason why this is happeni ng is because the inside of the switches the inner pin connectors are broken or short, the metal isnt near the stem of the switch and because of that, the switch isnt registering the keypress, i recommend getting new switches, if it keeps happening its maybe because you are pressing too hard, or just buy a new keyboard.
They say that these mechanical keyboards have a 50 million clicks life span. Mine gave out after 20 days. I dont know if its poor quality or just an accident or whatever.
