Good stuff. +1 for the 'how can you afford it' video.

I would like to see how you get your speedometer sorted. Mine is the same. Extremely optimistic.

Cheryl Gordon and Tony yeah I will be doing a video on it as soon as I figure out what it is. I’m reluctant to keep trying as I’ve spent soooo much time and money trying to get it fixed and haven’t got anywhere but I’ll give it a go and keep you updated. How long has yours been the same and what have you tried to do to fix it?

CR classics it has been that way since I have had the car. 5 years now. Have not tried anything yet. I am guessing no easy fix.

Cheryl Gordon and Tony no way ahh ! It’s so annoying right? We have replaced the speedo cable, right angle drive and taken the speedo out and tested it out of the car it’s just when we put it back in it still reads about 20MPH over speed. And as the Right angle drive wasn’t cheap I’m really not wanting to re open the can of worms.

CR classics From what I have read, this is commonly due to a bad earth between the battery and the starter motor. While cranking, a voltage drop occurs between the engine/transmission and electrical grounds in the instruments. A current flows in the speedometer cable and cooks the springs that calibrate the pointer, thus weakening them and allowing the pointer to be optimistic. The solution is to have the speedometer recalibrated, and I think there is a little insulating element that can be inserted where the cable enters the instrument to prevent recurrence. Apparently, grounding issues with glass fibre cars often damage sensors and meters... but who knows?
