Two fabulous Lotus one stock and well kept and the other a cool restomod. Thanks from the states as we rarely see lotus vehicles of such fine upkeep around town these days
I like both worlds, Mine is an late S1 but it was converted to Turbo Body, probably in the eighties, and made in such a way that it is very hard to get it back to S1. That makes it easy for me to go One step further in my restomod.
Love the Esprit, loooove your Esprit...I'm usually for resto mods, personalize it, so good job on your friend's Lotus, it works all around! Fun yt channel.
Thanks for that interesting video. Having a similar car we discuss a lot wether to keep it original or not. To my opinion it is great to improve the reliability but I would keep the original look. So the original wheels and lights. Because we do not know some of the original specifications I would like to get in touch because your car seems to be like it left the factory. Thanks for your effort to film these episodes and. keep doing so. Cheers Peter
Thank you for such kind words and great to hear you’ve also got an Esprit I presume? Yeah feel free to get in touch, contact me via the CR Classics Facebook page or pop me an email on Calazam118@gmail.com. Plenty of Lotus content coming that I hope you’ll enjoy 👍🏻
17:28 from an engineering standpoint, the position of the original air vent is that its close enough to the blower motor/fan that you have maximum air flow as the proximity of the vent means you sort of minimize the line loss in the vent line. This makes sense to me anyway.
Road trips are definitely on the list and a video of the two cars out and about is planned as well so keep an eye out. Thanks for the kind words!! Means a lot 👍🏻👍🏻
I very much enjoyed your Esprit videos in part because I owned a 907 S2 in metallic gold. I have always wondered if my car is still in circulation and if you guys have access to records or currents cars and owners or if any watchers know anything. My car must have been one last 2 litre cars and sitting for a while in a new dealer showroom because it was on a 1980/81 W reg plate. I bought it from the Norwich Lotus dealer in 1982 with low miles and sold it on to a London car dealer a year later in mid 1983. I put a private reg plate on it and because I kept the plate it would have remained on a W plate because of it's date of first registration. Unfortunately, I do not have the chassis number but what might set it apart is I had the cylinder head was rebuilt following a cam belt failure and Dave Smith Engineering of Gants Hill area NE London did a big valve cylinder head rework with a claimed 190 bhp. It was faster but only above 5000 rpm. If anybody has the car today I have lots of stories to share. Thanks and great videos guys.
From personal experience, fitting electronic fuel injection does not make a car more reliable. If anything it just gives you way more things to go wrong. A decent set of refurbished carbs will give years of trouble free driving. That being said, It's totally up to the owner what he or she wants to do to their own vehicle.
I’d love to know more details about the updates to the steering system. I’ve got an 86 Turbo (US) that I bought in 1990. Back then, I was amazed by the precision of the steering. But now, the U-joints are worn and I wasn’t able to find direct replacements. (The lack of power steering puts a lot of stress on the U-joints, and my local roads were crappy.) I’ve got quite a large dead spot in the steering now. Knowing how great it used to feel makes it especially annoying. Please let me know the parts updates, if possible. Thanks!
Just replacing both UJ's as one has become notchy and was pulling the car to the right. And then gaiters will be fabricated for each UJ to protect it as the column is basically open to the road surface. You absolutely can get replacement UJ's, just check them first - one of mine pre-notchy!
@@marksuddaby5354 Last I checked with my US suppliers, they said they were no longer available. Who is your supplier? Was it under a Lotus part number, or an alternate? Thanks!
Thanks for this - really interesting. You mention 235bhp - what torque is it developing and where? Has it been tuned for top-end power or low-mid-range grunt eg 30-60mph B-road overtaking?
190 lb ft at 5000 rpm. Tuned for road going. The peak BHP (at 6500 rpm) is more a fact of the excellent upgrades, but I was never chasing power or top end performance. The car is now optimised for road use - not back from the garage yet, so I've yet to try it.
I think I’d really like Mark’s car if it wasn’t for how good your car looks Callum. Honestly I think it’s perfect in every way. There can’t be many Esprits S2 like yours in such good original condition. I know the carb engine is giving you a bit of grief but it will be worth when it’s running right. To be fair to Mark it sounds like his wasn’t in great shape to begin with.
Your far to kind David! What you’ve said right there really is wonderful so thanks for taking the time to comment such nice words. I absolutely love the car! I’d love to keep it forever but I don’t think that’s going to be possible unfortunately.
I enjoyed this many thanks - Sorry to be banging the same drum and this is purely meant constructively; please stop saying ‘yeah’ all the time and just let the interviewee speak..!
I’m all for better brakes and lights and I can understand or forgive the other tweaks, but those big wheels 🤢 on your friends car, they really detract from the beautiful design in my opinion, big thumbs down from me.

Wow, two stunning Lotus’s. I owned a 2005 Elise, and a 2011 Evora 2+0. These just look so much cooler!

Mark told me about this channel so I subscribed!
Thank you! Really appreciate it 😁👍🏻
Id love to see a video of a road trip to a Lotus vendor like Lotusbits or JS sports cars. Great video BTW!

Hi, great series 👍 Do you know where Mark sourced the two shade tinted windscreen?

I have an 84 turbo esprit. Where did you get your car cover?
Specialised Covers, they’re amazing! I’ve had them on all my classics and they’re brilliant, indoor and outdoor, fully custom.

"Halfords clear out". 🤣. Very unfair however..

I agree.
Agreed.
