They dont do the 250 anymore and the FL is 276 whp so probably 300+. Ive seen several dyno over 300 stock now. And my FL is much quicker than my old manual N.
Im not going to bias. As I'm getting a new hyundai i30n hatch in the upcoming months. Love the outcome on both car's. But if the 2 driver's swap car's n done it all over again, the story could b different. Both are nice turbo 4s cars to drive
You can’t go wrong with either one mate. This i30 was not the performance one, so it was a fair bit cheaper then the ST but the interior showed. If you got the performance one the interior is nicer (still not as good as the Focus) But performance wise they are both great options! I’m sure you will love yours
The i30N only became competitive in a straight line after Hyundai fitted a new beefier turbo on the facelifted model - the pre-facelift was relatively slow when compared to its key rivals. Ford's 2.3L EcoBoost engine has so much more potential, it is a shame they've capped it at 280 PS and 420 Nm of torque on the Mk4 Focus ST when a simple Stage 1 remap can take it up to 330 PS and well above 500 Nm of torque. However in stock form it seems to be a much more linear and responsive engine when compared to the i30N's. Both amazing cars, but I'd pick the Focus ST any day of the week.
The pre-FL i30N is definitely limited by the smaller turbo (I own one, and I run a tuning box, and an upgraded intercooler, giving me approx ~300ps and 440nm, and it makes a big difference), but the FL version gets 360-370ps with a Stage 1 remap, and people are running well over 380 with just a sport cat, and some exhaust mods.
@@Cernunn0s90 I was quoting figures from "off the shelf" Stage 1 remaps, but I'm sure that you can squeeze out more power if you do a custom remap. Having that said, an 80-90 PS increase on a simple remap seems excessive, given that no other mods have been performed and that you've kept the stock cats and GPF in place - it's a recipe for disaster on any car. I know people who've done custom Stage 2 tunes on their Mk4 Focus ST's and are running north of 380 PS and 560 Nm of torque. The problem is that you don't see any of that on the internet, unless you're in the right groups and know the right people. The i30N is a beast and definitely has been loosened up on the FL version, but it's not the only one that can get ballsy with the right kit.
Agreed mate. The ST was a much smoother and better power band. You could be in 1 gear too high and as it came on boost early and had a better and more usable power band the ST would pull through. Where as the i30 was very laggy and then it would hit boost and take off! Also my mate with the i30 loved the interior of the ST and said it was way better, I didn’t think it would be until I sat in his and drove his after and realised just how good the interior and functionality of everything was far superior to the i30. I rate the i30 highly but the ST is just superior.
@@mikerelvas Literally a bog standard stage one will as CerN said take it well north of 350. And the engine is under no strain, the brakes on the other hand on the FL will definitely need an upgrade. The FL is an easy 300 hp stock out of the box. Great bit of kit.
I30N base model means 250 or 280 hp?

Those N's aren't bad out of the box. My mate hosed me in my AU xr8 the other day from an 80 roll 😅
😂😂 keep that to yourself mate, don’t let people know the mighty AU lost 😂
But seriously they are both great cars!
Just wish ford did a RS
