- In this video I build a custom LED Task Light that folds up to store away when not in use.
I built two different light fixtures this week. The lamp featured in this video is made using organic curves, and I'm able to test out many different techniques like bent lamination, making wooden hinges, and constructing sliding mechanics.
If you have any question, feel free to ask in the comments below.
Thanks for watching!

had to smash that thumbs up button immediately after seeing that stop motion intro!!
Hahaha Thanks Mike! I just had to. Articulated lamps were made for animation.
pro tip: watch movies on Kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.
A trick : watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Alex Layne definitely, I have been using flixzone} for months myself =)
@Alex Layne yup, have been watching on flixzone} for since november myself :)
Very cool. I’ve been wanting to design and make a lamp with a similar aesthetic. I might have to borrow the slide idea. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! No problem. Let me know how yours turns out!
Hey. Nice design and an interesting project. Best work I 've seen in the maker community in a while now!
Honestly between the two lamps I like this one better! Both still fantastic! Keep crushing it!! 👊🏻
Thanks Jon! 👊🏻
Once again, nicely done Mike! I watched both lamp builds & can't decide on which one I like best. Now that's the sign of a job well done as far as I'm concerned....................... :)
Thanks Steve! I appreciate it!

Really beautiful Michael! You have a designer's eye. That piece would look right at home in Frank Lloyd Wright house. 😀
You've got great creativity. This is an elegant light design I'd like to attempt one day.
Thanks! Go for it! Please let me know if you make one
Stunning. Loved the build. Happily subbed.

Keep pushing videos out like this and you’ll hit 100k subs in no time. Very original. Please. No river tables
Thanks Lance! Don't worry, no river tables on this channel. That's the Alm Fab guarantee 😉
It looks beautifull. I think it need some guard for not alowing direct light beams from lamp to eyes
Thanks! The defuser on the lantern itself takes care of that.
Hi Great lamp, do you have the plans to download including the stl file for the holder, it would be much appreciated if you have.
Too bad you had to make this when you did and not for the rocker bent wood challenge. Amazing build all around! Keep up the awesome work!
Beautiful item. Now do one without your fancy tools hehe.
Great project. I’m going to try to make something similar for my mom as I have a few of those same led lights. Do you think it would be possible to have the two pieces that slide to be connected using a sliding dovetail? Or would the imperfections of the two dissimilar arcs cause it to jam?
Thanks Christopher! It's funny you say that, because my original plan was to do a dovetail. I just couldn't figure out an effective way to make and accurate cut on such small curved pieces. If you figure out a way, please let me know. Also, let me know how your lamp turns out!
beautiful.,.,job.,.,greetings frrom argentina.,.new susccribeer.,,
Thank you!!
Great design, nicely photographed and well narrated! Got yourself a sub. But, the music is really intrusive. The video is more than good enough to,stand on its own.
Hi, that lamp came out beautiful Michael. At the end when you were writing in your notebook under the ambiance of the lamp i had thought to myself. Is he figuring out how many hundreds of dollars he would have to charge per lamp to make it worth while. ..lol it did seem like you might have had quite a few hours into that build. Albeit beautiful, might not make sense to try and sell them. Which is unfortunate cause i think you would have more then a few customers. Myself included. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos very much. Thanks for sharing ☺
Thanks Christine. Hahaha, yeah it would be tough to make these to sell for sure. A few too many hours. So glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching!
Hi Michael! Nice videos . Can you tell us which camera, lens and light setup u use in your recordings? Thanks in advance
Hey Emir, I shoot everything on a Samsung NX500 and use 4000k LED shop lights for lighting. Thanks for watching!
What kind of wood did you use for the lamp?
Michael can you share the stl file for the printed part?
I just watched both of the lamp videos. The designs, woodwork and camera work were all excellent in both. The need for me to keep adjusting the volume way down when the music with the loud bass beat came on and back up when you started to speak was quite annoying however.
Thanks, I'll work on the audio levels for future videos. Definitely learning as I go.
Do you have the stl file for the holder part?
Good work sir, pretty sweet lamp! How did you measure/model the threads to be sure they matched the light?
Thanks Justin! That was a bit of work, and I didn't share it in the video, because I thought it'd get a little too deep in the weeds. I used Fusion 360 to model it and watched 3 or 4 videos on how to make threads. A set of digital calipers were key. To my surprise they fit on the first print.
@@MichaelAlm I don't blame you for leaving it out. I was just hoping you discovered some magic trick to make it easy... 😁
@@BearMaked Yeah, this video was the most helpful. I had to use option 3 because they weren't a standard thread size. th-cam.com/video/1nhcKn7Kt8w/w-d-xo.html
Where should I order this product? and how much does it cost?
Hey man, just stumbled across your account, whilst procrastinating. Your stuff is a beautiful mix of fresh design and woodworking. If you ever need someone to reanimate your logo or other motion design stuff for free, hit me up. I'd much rather help out fellow creatives than do client work. Cheers brother.
After that romantic intro I was expecting to see little tiny button-cell lights appear. I like this design more than the concrete version. Thanks. btw, I would love to know how an arc is different from the "edge of" a circle. I think you have something in mind but my math brain isn't getting it.
What's the toothbrush for?
