I've got the Bosch GCM12SD and it's a great saw for carpentry. And I love it for that. But, it occasionally has a small deflection when the arm is fully extended so it's not good for precision cuts. It's a known issue, and I was hoping I was lucky enough to maybe avoid the problem, but alas, I moved over to a Kapex after having to pull out the shooting board to fix a bad cut one too many times. Still (the Bosch), excellent saw.

Kapex is the way to go for fine furniture making. Although, it’s not really needed if you have a nice big cabinet saw. I use the Bosch in my shop but I never use it for finish cuts. My table saw does better cross cuts. I do use the Bosch to rough cut down lumber before it goes through the jointer. And the occasional miter, but those are rarely used in fine furniture because they make terrible glue joints. Unless you have a Festool Domino or other loose tenon in there.

Interesting that the best selling battery 12" seems to be the Makita 40V XGT, unless I missed something. For the premium price and the fact that it's not in-stores and has to be ordered online, it must be getting a good reputation with finish carpenters.

I went from the Bosch Axial glide to the DeWalt 60v. The DeWalt is much lighter and easier to bring job to job, even with a battery. I like the adjustments on the DeWalt better than the Bosch as well. Both are great, I'd recommend the Bosch for a shop and the DeWalt for jobsite applications.

Not to mention the damn fence bows after a few years (had to replace the fence). Only reason to use a miter is for 1) quick cuts and 2) accurate perfect angles. Milwaukee’s new Forge battery series makes everything else seem inferior and outdated… I was skeptical that it was just a little better but the first M18 Red Lithium Forge XC6.0 I got literally out powered and outlasted my HD12.0… Insane battery, Battery tech is really coming in to the tool market now that EV’s and everything going electric and Milwaukee is the first to offer some of this technology to its cordless power tool customers which is just one more reason why I have been a Milwaukee guy from day 1, they have never let me down and enabled me to grow my business and reputation…there’s just something about seeing your contractor roll up with 2 Milwaukee packouts stacked 6 feet high breathes a little confidence into your decision lol

    Woodworking Beginner: New - Update.
This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work).
Tips and Test: Read this first before you buying a miter saw! It's better to know than not to know.
Important to know if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)!
Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade.
Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt.
Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing .
And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft.
It is very important that everything is aligned.
Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade.
First option: handle vertical positioned above the saw blade.
    Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact/ Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH / Ridgid MS255SR 10-inch / Evolution Fury3-S / Evolution R255SMS / Metabo HPT C10FSBS / Hitachi C10FSB / Hitachi C10FS.
Second optie: handle horizontal positioned above the saw blade / Evolution R185SMS / Evolution F255SMS / Evolution RAGE3R255 SMS3 .
(This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails).
(If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed).
Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand or finger on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine.
Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
    (test is completed).
Conclusion: Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade.
The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade.
Remember this, the test is only about torsion and nothing else how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing, you better not go for that. (the choices are yours).
Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...
P.S. When you measure the vertical 90 degrees angle square (Digital Level Box) of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing..

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe that the Festool KS 120 REB is a cordless saw, the only cordless miter saw manufactured by Festool is a Kapex KSC 60 which is an 8 1/2 diameter saw blade. More of a trim saw. Is anyone aware that Festool makes a cordless version of the 120? Maybe overseas or in Canada?

I was minutes away from buying that Bosch Dual Bevel 12" miter saw yesterday. I do 85% fine woodworking and 15% rough carpentry and loved the feel of this saw. It was smooth as butter to operate. BUT then I checked my impulsivity and went home to read reviews. There are many reviews about how the fence and the bed aren't flat and square and that they're off by as much as 1/16". This is probably fine for rough framing but not for fine furniture making. What's more is that Bosh has no adjustment according to their engineers. I haven't decided yet what I want to buy and was kind of hoping that maybe Bosch will re-engineer this saw. I've been waiting years to replace my really old Delta 10" sliding compound miter saw. It doesn't operate smoothly at all, needs constant realignment, and the stand is so wobbly.

Why does everything have to be battery powered? Where do you think those batteries go when they don't hold a charge anymore? Is it really that difficult to bend over and plug in a tool and never have to worry about losing a charge during a cut?

@@awesomelegodude720 "There's a place for both." Yes, one battery powered tool as a backup, but you are using the corded unless you run into a bad power situation, which is weird as generators are on just about any work site strictly for power... This isn't happening though. Option #1 for people is a battery. Something that blows air, battery, something that rotates a tool, battery, something that drives nails, battery, battery powered lawn mowers, etc. Anyone who has used a cordless drill over the years knows the battery packs don't last and sometimes you get a dud right out of the gate. These things add up in a landfill the more people adopt them. The accumulation of these spent batteries over time, included EVs, will make toxic waste dumping look like "plant a tree" day.

The pricing is mostly because it’s not made in China but in Germany where they pay a living wage. It would roughly be the same cost if made here in the U.S. That’s the trade-off. You can buy a No. 4 Lie Nielsen hand plane for $450 or a Wood River made in China for about $200. Made in America Blue Spruce chisels are bout twice what they are outside the U.S. I’m not saying this is good or bad as everyone has their own values, opinions, price point for what they can afford. I’ve got pre-war Stanley tools, Festool, U.S. made, Canada, China, Taiwan, made tools. I still don’t own a Kapex….yet. And this may be where I draw my line and go for a Bosh or Dewalt to replace my Taiwan Grizzly miter saw.
