    I also had those TyrePal valves, and they caused a flat tyre within 20 miles of fitting one, as it damaged the valve. When we got back from holiday, I noticed the other valve looked exactly like yours. I’ve since ditched the TyrePal as it seems to cause exactly the issue it’s meant to detect.
    I can only assume the force placed on the valve caused by the extra weight of the valve and ensuing centrifugal force caused the damage.
    Thanks for the video. It’s extremely well made. :-)

    Great safety advice Martin this is a major issue regarding ageing tyres which has been in the press but regarding a PSV coach.
    At the moment the law regarding caravans maintenance is not enforced.
    Apart from road side and motorway checkpoints from DVSA (vosa) .
    Do think the laws should be changed regarding a safety certificate or similar to a MOT for a vehicle.
    It's important when caravan tyre replaced that its type is as original and the load index is correct.
    Very well done Martin probably the most missed thing on a caravan

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did read somewhere that VOSA are looking to do more spot checks on caravans next year. I think they should have a road worthiness certificate but this would probably take a lot vans off the road! I think the DVSA will get a hold of this eventually. Thanks for the feedback and watching, Martin 🙂

    Another great video Martin - all good info.
    Downside - every time you have ( or find) a little job to do, Sandra ( other half ) watching it with me says that’s something I could do with doing ! 🙄
    I had Tyron bands fitted last year when I changed tyres - tyre bloke came and fitted at the storage park together with new tyres - did you consider them ?
    Keep up the good work Martin - just glad you don’t vlog about painting and decorating !

    Hi Martin, very interesting!
    do you think the tyre-pal valves have contributed to the cracks in the valve necks with the extra weight perhaps?

    • @richardthornton1235
      @richardthornton1235 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good shout Lee. I have just fitted a Tyre-Pal system to my van so will be keeping an eye out.

    • @Daveindurham
      @Daveindurham 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have friend who took his tyre pal system off his caravan as he was sure they contributed to his tyres deflating. Since doing this he has not had a problem, put me off using the system.

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hadn’t really thought about it Lee, when the tyres were changed they didn’t change the valves, will be keeping an eye on it though. Cheers Martin 😊

    • @colinrimmer789
      @colinrimmer789 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Caravan Nut hi Martin wonder if when you changed the tyres they were the OE fitment, would explain the perishing of the valve stem rubber.

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure Colin, the dealer did the tyres before I picked the van up not sure why they didn’t do the valves 🤔

    Great video thanks Martin, have just bookmarked a few of your other caravanning videos to have a look at. I bought a pair of Silverline 763620 axle stands but am a bit nervous about using them as the profile of the top bit of the axle stand doesn't quite match the profile of the axle... I don't want to damage the axle! I'm probably worrying too much... what do you think?

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The axle is fairly solid so should be ok. My profile doesn’t quite match but sits on them fine and has never been a problem. I would give them a go. cheers, Martin

    Great video Martin...I'm pretty new to caravanning and just checked my tyres they are all out of date so i need to change them, i was considering taking off both wheels on the van and leaving it jacked up on axel stands for the winter months in order to save the new tyres from the elements and also as a safety precaution in case the caravan was stolen i keep it out the back of the house on tarmac, can you see any problems with doing this ?

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Barry, dealers don’t really tell you about the tyres as it may cost them money! I put our van on axle stands but leave the wheels on, I will have a vlog out soon covering this subject. As long as the axle stands are in the correct position it should be fine. Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 🙂

    I've the same van as you same year to. Is it 160nm u set your wheel nuts at ? I think it says on the book that come with the van 110nm. Am not sure what to go with.
    Thanks

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it’s 160nm, it was increased after manufacture as there was an issue with wheels coming off and something to do with the Axle.
      Cheers

    Hi,my concern is the quality grade of the valves garages are using for our Caravans! Fitters should give you the choice on the quality of the valves they fit....We have had four valves perish and now buy brass quality ones and take them with the new tyres to be fitted.I'm not saying they fit the cheapest valves , but Caravan tyres are changed far less frequently and the valves should be up to the same high demands as 8 ply van tyres! We change our tyres every five yrs normally.

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hadn’t thought about brass fittings, they would be far better. I would imagine that some tyre places are trying to increase profit and a way of doing that would be to use cheaper valves. I will look at the brass next time I change the tyres. Thanks for comments and watching 🙂
