Make Your 3D Prints Have No-Slip Grip (Vise, Feet, etc.)

  • Just a quick tip on post-processing 3D prints to improve their surface grip. I'm demonstrating it on PETG but this should work equally well with PETG, PLA, or ABS plastics.
Sometimes I need my prints grip better. Vise jaws, plastic feet, and phone holders are all good targets for a nice grip coating to provide some hold on the surface they're mated with.
If you've tried different no-slip coatings on 3D prints let me know what you're experience is in the comments below!

Nice tip, thank you! Was looking at rubber sheets to glue on and other similar ways to add grip to my prints, but this solution is much easier and cheaper.

Yea, depends on your needs, of course. In some cases the thicker paint-on version of this coating or a silicone caulk can work as well.

Nice tip, I'm thinking of trying some "Shoe Goo" (polyurethane) and also Clear Silicone to increase grip on some PLA parts. Any experience with these? I think you definitely found something useful for PETG since it is so hard to get a good bond with anything to PETG.

Shoe Goo would depend on the solvent used and if it can melt the printed plastic to form a bond.
Clear silicone would probably bond to the surface. If it was roughed up a bit it might get some surface adhesion. I don't believe it normally melts into things it's applied to as (at least some of them) use a type of vinegar as a solvent (if I'm recalling correctly)

Depending on the plastic you may also want to get some 80 grit sand paper out and rough up the surface you'll be coating. Even with the same type of plastic different blends of PETG or PLA will bond with the Flexidip differently.
Also, dip-able Plastidip will give you a thicker coating than the spray on rubber coat.
